Due to popular demand we made a small update to allow people without DX11 also to play Empyrion. The new version 1.0.2 should now also be compatible with DX9.

Changelog Pre-Alpha 1.0.2:
  • Added support of DX9
  • Improved pathing of NPCs
  • Added check if new structure can be created before removing hull blocks
  • Increased hover distance of GV to ground (from 1.7m to 2m)
  • Improved loading time after startup
  • Fixed bug that items disappear when inventory is full and new items are picked up
  • Fixed problem that an invalid local save game was created when connecting to a server.
  • Balanced templates: Less Rotten Food now needed for Growing Plot (1 instead of 3)
  • Nerfed Gatling Gun on SV (less damage and less rate-of-fire)
  • Gatling Gun can now also be placed on GV

We have received a number of emails from people asking for support for the following two issues:

1. After using the Steam key and installation of Empyrion, the game does not start and an error appears with "Missing executable."

This error appears if you try to launch the game on a 32bit system. As mentioned in our announcement (http://empyriononline.com/threads/save-the-date-release-date-of-closed-alpha-june-26-2015.398/), currently Empyrion runs ONLY on 64bit systems (we might add 32bit support soon).

2. After successful installation, the terrain textures are missing (not just from time to time but always).

This problem appears if you don't have DX11. However, in Pre-Alpha 1.0.2 (next update), you will be able to play Empyrion also on systems with DX9.

EDIT: Issue 2 has been solved in Pre-Alpha 1.0.2 (now Empyrion is also DX9 compatible)

Hi everyone!

We are very excited to announce the official launch of the Closed Pre-Alpha. We have sent out the Steam keys. Please check the inbox of your email account linked to your Paypal.

We added a special section to the community forum for the CPA testers: http://empyriononline.com/forums/#closed-testing-pre-alpha.21

If not already done, please register an account on the forum. You may then access the private CPA section using the password sent in the email together with your Steam keys.

Please keep in mind that the game is still in early development and the CPA version is far from being a finished game, which means you should expect bugs and disruptions in service. In addition, the content of the CPA is still restricted but will be extended over time.

Only participate in the CPA if you are willing to accept possible bugs and you would like to help us build a great galactic survival adventure game. Otherwise, you can also wait until a more polished version is released on Steam Early Access.

DISCLAIMER:

Releasing video footage and/or live streaming of Empyrion: Galactic Survival Closed Pre-Alpha is expressly forbidden (This prohibition is only temporary and will be lifted during the CPA).

Please make also sure to read the rest of the Terms & Conditions (http://store.steampowered.com/eula/383120_eula_0) .

Thanks in advance for your participation in the Closed Alpha.

Eleon Game Studios

P.S. We did not include an ingame tutorial yet - so it might be hard to understand the functionalities in the beginning. However, we are working hard on our Wiki (http://empyrion.wikia.com/wiki/Empyrion:_Galactic_Survival_Wikia) to add as much information as possible. Feel free to contribute to the WIKI.

Hello everyone!

After the closing of our pre-order shop, we are now excited to announce the release date of the Closed Alpha:

June 26, 2015

We have processed the database of our pre-orders and we have sent an email to everybody who has pre-ordered the game (if you have pre-ordered the game and did not receive an email please contact us: info[at]eleon-studios.com).

Currently, we are conducting a private playtest with around 15 selected testers in order to polish the game for the Closed Alpha release.

If you have successfully participated in the Invite-a-Friend program in fall 2014 and you are interested in participating in the Closed Alpha, please contact us.

Please find more information about the Closed Alpha below (note that some of this has already been posted in an earlier update):

What is a Closed Alpha?
A Closed Alpha is a very important step in game development. By participating in the Closed Alpha, you will be able to test the Alpha version of Empyrion to identify any problems or rough edges and help us balance the game. It gives you a chance to not only be the first to play-test a long-awaited game, but also to influence its development. Moreover, we will get an opportunity to receive important feedback that will make Empyrion even better.

How long does the Closed Alpha run?
We hope to have a relatively short Closed Alpha test period of less than a month, i.e., we hope to officially launch Empyrion on Steam’s Early Access mid-July.

For what platforms will the Closed Alpha be available?
The Closed Alpha will be for Windows PC only. You will need a 64 bit system with DirectX 11.

Can I post screenshots and videos of Empyrion during Closed Alpha?
We did not yet decide but will inform you when we send out the download link for the Closed Alpha.

What are the next steps?
On June 26, 2015, everybody who has pre-ordered the game will receive an email with further information and the download link for the Closed Alpha.

Disclaimer (please read):
1. Keep in mind that the game is still in early development and the Closed Alpha version is far from being a finished game which means you should expect bugs and disruptions in service. In addition, the content of the Closed Alpha is still restricted but will be extended over time.
2. Only participate in the Closed Alpha if you are willing to accept possible bugs and you would like to help us...

Hello Galactic Survivalists!

In this update, we show you some of the new decorative blocks and assets that we have recently integrated into Empyrion. The times are past when the interior of your starship or base was "decorated" with cold and metallic hull blocks. Now, you will be able to build yourself a truly comfortable and cozy home.

Decorate your living-room, bedroom, kitchen and even bathroom. For now, we have integrated a sofa, bed, bookshelf, TV set, desk, table, cozy interior lights, indoor plants, kitchen counter, bathroom cabinet and even a toilet and shower.

When you return from a dangerous mission on a planet where you fought against some nasty alien creatures, the welcoming interior will create an atmosphere that makes you feel truly at home.

Imagine to sit on your comfortable sofa in the living room of your starship and watch the stars passing by.

Have you ever slept with a view on a lava field?

Even Galactic Survivalists need a restroom....

....but at least it should have a nice view on the stars:

Tell us what you think about the option to decorate your starships and bases with decorative blocks and assets.

Last but not least, we want to tease you with two screenshots showing a brand-new feature integrated into the game - but we will not tell you at this point what it is. Perhaps you can figure it out by looking closely at the screenshots.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for the next update.

Hey folks!

In this update, we will present you some new models and features that we integrated into Empyrion. But before that we are happy to announce that you will be able to play Empyrion still in June 2015! We will publish our official release schedule here on this website this weekend.

Our friends from the Modding Asylum created this truly amazing new cockpit for us. Thank you so much! You remember the long-range fighter cockpit from one of our previous updates (http://empyriononline.com/threads/big-announcement-partnership-with-“modding-asylum-empyrion-project.134/)? Well - the new cockpit is the short-range version of the fighter cockpit. Take a look at it and tell us what you think.

We also integrated a cool new feature for multiplayer: passenger seat blocks that you can place on your ground hover vehicles, spaceships or starships (also here: thank you Modding Asylum for the 3d models). With this new block, you will be able to cruise around together with your friends in one ship or vehicle and change planets as you wish.

Finally, we worked on a new underwater effect that is triggered when your character is under the water surface.

The water looks calm....so let's jump into it...

Admittedly, the full beauty of the underwater effect is hard to see on a screenshot...;-)

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for the next update with the release schedule for Empyrion.

Re: Breakthrough in Project X-74b Hover

From the greatest science fiction movies and games of the 20th and 21st centuries to the flying car debacle of the early 2100's, we have strived to push the innovation of ground transportation to the very limits of human imagination.
Despite the Great resource war of the past century and its push towards military research, a few of us have continued the research and development of new low-thrust/ low-power directional thrusters that would allow for the creation of “hover-style” ground vehicles that could operate in all terrains with both minimal impact to the surrounding environment, and with minimal impact on precious rare resources.
Thanks in large part to the recent breakthrough with promethium energy cells, I'm happy to tell you that the prototype X-74b hover thrusters have passed their operational tests, as had the prototype Ground Hover Vehicle (GHV-1). Below are some of the screenshots from the operational tests done in the EP Proving Grounds Simulations. It have passed all operational expectations in Desert, Ice/Snow, and extreme hazard scenarios and should prove equally capable in all other terrain situations.

From pizza delivery to cargo transport to races around the rim of the lava fields and anything in between you can imagine, there's an engine designed especially for you. Today we'd like to introduce you to the first iteration of hover ground vehicles. We know many of you have asked if there was going to be some type of ground vehicles and we've been hard at work creating the new controller and everything required to make those happen.

We'll be around on the forums to answer questions you might have about the new ground vehicles and also let us know in the comments what you think about the style of this update, and if you would like to see more “in lore” updates, or if you prefer the old style updates better. As always, this is just one of the many things we have currently in the works and we look forward to the next update.

Thanks for reading

Hi everyone!

It is time for a new development update. Today, we are excited to show you our new water shader.

Would you dare to go for a swim? The water seems to have the perfect temperature....
What about trying to find the most beautiful beach on Omicron?

We also applied the water shader to the new hot springs on Ningues, the snow planet.

Some more impressions of the new terrain on Ningues:

Finally, we added a new useful tool to the game: a portable work light. Imagine that you find an asteroid on the surface of Omicron....
...but then the night surprises you while mining. The work light will be very handy in this moment.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for the next update.
