First off the big news starting this week is it looks like the demo is getting very close. Eleon Game Studios via Kickstarter has stated "Hi everyone! We had a busy weekend with a lot of work to polish up the demo." This is really good news and sounds like we might be seeing a demo in the hand of youtubers soon and hopefully will also be getting a copy to cover as well, so we can post a lot of footage and maybe even some live streaming!
Another Snip from Kickstarter: "We will release the demo in time so that it can help boost the campaign in the last 2 weeks."
Today we hit £12,000 so we are getting one step closer to hitting the goal but we need you guys and girls to help spread the word even further.
Here are some wonderful Q&A's from around the Internet.
Q: How will Planet to Space or Space to Planet transitioning work?
Currently, we are testing different approaches. In the first built, there will probably be a brief loading sequence from space to planet and vice versa but our aim is to make the transition relatively smooth. Between star systems there will probably be also a brief loading sequence.
Q: Will we be able to repair tools and will there be things like axes and shovels?
We will probably add the possibility to repair your stuff. Given that we are in the year 2473, we might not add axes and shovels but more advanced equipment.
Q: Is that an automated drill that can move completely within the parameters of the square made for it? or is it a planned feature just being a static object at the moment?
The automatic mining robot from the trailer is still only a placeholder but it will be functional in the released game.
Q: Will there be aerodynamics in the atmospheres of the planets?
Yes, aerodynamics would be a very cool feature (however, not yet implemented). Currently, we are testing different approaches to add realism to the atmospheric flights.
Q: Will we get Steam keys if we Back?
Absolutely. Given that Empyrion has been Greenlit, you will get Steam keys after the Kickstarter.
Q: Will you be able to fly in one direction from point A ( while on a planet ) and at some point arrive at the same point A ( Fly around the whole planet )
And that leads to another one.
Yes, absolutely. The planets are round which means...
Some great news today. We are almost at the 20% mark on Kickstarter and at the same time Empyrion has been successful Greenlit.
The amazing part is 73% of the community voted yes. This is actually a pretty big victory with so many players miss trusting Greenlight these days this means people see Empyrion being successful and that is a really good thing and one heck of a morality boost for the developers.
Empyrion Developers being so transparent have also included a screenshot of the Greenlight admin panel stats for us to view:
Today was another nice surprise on Kickstarter. We now have a Soundtrack, New Screenshot, and 92% of the way of being Greenlight and as posting this we hit 500 backers!
So Congratulations to the community. It's you who will make this game successful and it is you who keep bugging your favorite streamers and Youtubers and friends to help advertise and back and push this game further to success!
Big day today boys and girls! Empyrion just hit 10% of its Kickstarter goal bring the grand total to £5,000! This is really good news since the Last Stand Gamers posted yesterday the Kickstarter has been flying. It really shows you the power of one voice and how important it is that you spread the word of Empyrion.
Don't forget on top of that their is still a planned Press Demo where we and many other Youtubers and Streamers will be able to give you a tour of this beautiful game.
There is no ETA on the Press Demo but their working hard on it.
Today BackerClub.co is featuring our project. Backer Club is an exclusive club for Kickstarter members who have backed 50+ projects. We expect to get a boost from this exposure so we're excited. If you have backed 50+ projects you should go check it out as you can get discounts on a bunch of great Kickstarter projects.
Even more exciting...we were able to get a special promo code for our backers from BackerClub.co. Any of you who have backed 25+ projects (instead of the standard entrance requirement of 50+) can join. You will need to enter a promo code of Join25 when you signup to take advantage of this.
This kind of exposure is really exciting so we wanted to share it with you!
Some wonderful news has been updated on Kickstarter for Update #2!
After 10 days on Steam Greenlight, Empyrion reached 50% of the way to the top 100! Thanks for your up-votes! We got more than 65% "yes votes", which is an amazing percentage for Steam Greenlight. It seems that people really like what they see when they see it. That being said, we need more exposure for Empyrion. Please help us spread the word about the game.
We are confident that the demo will help boost this campaign. Currently, we are working hard on it and we are still on track. It will be finished in time to help this campaign.
Please bear with us and stay tuned. Thanks for reading!
I'm changing this layout more to adapt to the ever changing information pouring in from around the Internet. Normally its been mostly just questions and answers but not always the case.
Empyrion Online: Weapons of Empyrion:
Ground combat weapons for the player that are already implemented: minigun, assault rifle, pistole, rocket launcher, shotgun, sniper rifle. We are currently working also on laser-based weapons and alien weapons.
Spaceships: minigun, rockets and laser-based weapons (last is still in development).
Mothership: different kinds of turrets.
Devices of Empyrion:
Engines: we are planning to have different types of engines (depending on your technology level). The engines also differ for the small spaceships and the large mothership.
Power generators: also here you will be able to craft different types depending on your technology level.
And much, much more....
With such a large world, i'll be interested to know how you are going to add enough interest for players to explore on the planets? How will you make exploration worthwhile? Will there be secrets?
You must explore different planets because they will provide you with the necessary resources. You won't find everything you need on one planet. Each planet will be unique with its own characteristics and potentially unforgiving conditions. You have to adapt to a planet's environment - otherwise you will not succeed. Initially, you face an uncharted universe with only basic information about the planets, their resources, and (potentially dangerous) life forms. Before your first landing on a planet, you will not know exactly what awaits you. So you will feel like Christopher Columbus each time you enter a planet's orbit for the first time.
Do you plan to add a customization ship system ? (I mean create your own design) Is it possible to play the whole game in single player ?
(i) regarding customisation of ship system: Yes, you can actually build your own ship with blocks and building parts, i.e., you can create your own ship design.
(ii) regarding single player: yes, you will be able to play the whole game in single player if you want.
How in-depth is ship designing going to be compared to say, Space Engineers and will there be asteroids?
the focus of Empyrion is on exploration & survival and not on...
The Invite a friend program has now closed. If you missed it there was this program running that if you invited 7 friend to Empyrion that you would receive a free Alpha key at release. Everyone should of also received a email around 10 hours from this post if they were successful or not.
We hope you will continue referring your friends to the Kickstarter and help make Empyrion a Success!
Congratulation to all the winners and thank you if you won or loss for your support!
Another around of Questions and Answers around the Internet. You might notice not all them are Q&A Format as I don't want to tamper the originality of it. But it should help sum a few questions people might have.
Q: (Suggestion) Deep Space Radar!
A: Actually, that is a feature we would like to implement. Also, we would like to implement a detection system and some sort of cloaking system.
Q: Is this game going to be moddable?
A: We are open to modders! However, it will require additional time and effort to polish developer tools and make them intuitive for modders. Therefore, the extent of mod support we will be able to provide is a question of priority, cost and time. Currently, our highest priority is getting the demo done and then polish the game for the Alpha release. Let's delay the discussion regarding mod support until when the Alpha version is released.
Q: Can there be factions?
A: We think that factions could be a very interesting element for Empyrion. However, before we commit ourselves to factions, we have to examine the dynamics while alpha testing the game. Same applies for party lists
Q: How many planets are there?
A: There will be at least several hundreds of solar systems. Each solar system contains several planets with their own characteristics (planet type, gravity, atmosphere, number of moons, terrain, surface, vegetation, climate, and resources). Note that there are not technical barriers to generate an infinite number of solar systems.
Q: How many Galaxies are there?
A: In the beginning, only one galaxy but it will be sufficiently large as noted above.
Q: how big can the motherships get?
A: In principle, there is no limit regarding the size. However, the gameplay mechanics will impose a natural limit on the size of your ships because you must take into account that you need thrusters to move your ships. Bigger ships mean more weight and therefore you need more thrusters. Yet, the more thrusters you have the more fuel you need and eventually you reach a critical size (weight) beyond which it becomes difficult to operate your ship.
Q: Not another spore game please.
A: We will try our best to develop a coherent and innovative gameplay. Yes, crafting will...
