Fixed Computer keeps crashing midgame

    Mode: Creative, Survival, Freedom mode
    Mode: Singleplayer, Dedicated Server

    SERVER NAME: private server
    SEED-ID: don't know.. just loaded something to check if it was MP only.

    MODIFIED PLAYFIELDS: No

    Reproducibility: Always
    Severity: Crash computer

    Summary: everything runs fine all maxed out, PC crashes and reboots without any warning
    Description: I play Empyrion for a few minutes to a few hours, it keeps crashing my computer.
    I play most games ( like GTA V, BF 5, ARK) maxed out for hours, never had this problem.
    Before the big update I played on the same PC with a amd r9 290x And never had any problems. (it was windows 8.1 back then)


    Steps to Reproduce: I can reproduce just by starting the game and stand still in the word. although I have no idea how long it takes before it crashes.

    Actions taken to exclude hardware or overloading system.:
    - Game maxed out or on lowest graphics. Problem remains, no time difference
    - Reinstalled GPU drivers. Problem remains
    - Ran stress tests on GPU, CPU and RAM for 6 hours. All remain stable and well below temp specs.
    -reinstalled Installed AMD r9 290x, problem remains
    -Checked memory for errors, none found
    - Changed PSU to exclude unstable psu option. Problem remains.
    - Checked all logs ( windows) for a crash report, no reports found.
    - Installed bluescreenview (nirsoft). No crash report

    There is no relation in being very active ingame or standing still to time it takes to crash.

    PC specs:
    Windows 10
    Intel core 5 4430 3ghz
    24 gb Ram
    nvidia gtx 1080 ti 11gb
    SSD HD
    PSU 850W

    Any input on what can cause this is welcome.

    So, did this happen after you switched graphic cards from R9 to 1080Ti and before you got the 1080 it worked fine? (Zo lijk je het geschreven te hebben, maar zie het niet specifiek staan)

    All I have is the empyrion logfile since no other logfiles are made on the crash. If you need another logfile, please tell me what software you want me to use, because I can't find anything that actually logs and writes untill the crashmoment.

    I played Empyrion about 2 years ago on my R9 290x with Win 8.1. Recently (3 months ago) I switched to the gtx 1080 ti and windows 10. The rest of my pc remained the same. I started playing Empyrion again about a week ago. To make sure its not the GPU that is at fault I switched it back to the R9. The problem remained. So it's either Win 10 or the recent update...(or a combination) Or there is something wrong with my pc that didn't show up on stresstesting and /or other games.

    I found a comment somewhere else from someone about turning ' vsync ' off. Since thats not possible in empyrion I'll turn it off in the nvidia software to see if that's a solution. I can probably test it tonight.

    This is a logfile with 16 GB Ram. since 1 ram module ran a bit hotter than the other two I took it out to make sure it didn't give any problems.

    It appears turning vsync off did nothing. After 3 -5 minutes ingame it crashed my pc again.
    I added the empyrion logfile.

    Ahh well that makes sence, reverting back to an old system spec to see if the problem persists.

    Did you upgrade to windows 10 or perform a clean installation?
    Have you tried cleaning your drivers with 3rd party programs such as driver fusion or DDU? (this might help incase you upgraded instead of performed a clean install).
    Do you get any messages at all or just crash?
    You say you have stressed the components individually, have you tried running PC Mark or 3D Mark?
    Do you have the same issues with other Unity games by chance?

    I can't find anything in the log files, but i'm not good at reading them anyway.
    Do you have the same issue when you start a new game, maybe even a new creative game?

    Problem solved.

    I couldn't get over the random timing of crashes so I decided to test the NEW psu. It didn't work the way it should. I took it back to the store and they gave me a new one. apparently even tier 1 PSUs can be unstable when new.
    I've played empyrion for about 5 hours today, no crashes. :)

    Empyrion seems to be heavier on the psu than running furmark while stresstesting ram and cpu.

    Good to know the problem was solved. And yes, everything is a lottery.
    Kind of a weird issue tho, but maybe a good lesson and something to get into the FAQ of troubleshooting.
    That when a PC crashes (reboots etc.) to check hardware. Mainly powerdelivery.
