Why not Ice Meteors? Or ice deposits to harvest ice from to make water?
And climbable ladders! That could be loads of fun!

Ladders are often requested, I'm guessing it's just not reached the level of being worthwhile return on the effort coding it.

Ice ASTEROIDS (did you mean that?) would be amazing, particularly as it's a major limitation living in space, and even if they aren't there by default, MP server manager managers could have some fun with placing them in the right place. Not to mention ice asteroids would look amazing if they had the right shiny texture used.

Yes ice asteroids! Lol... not meteors, that would be silly. Lol. "An ice asteroid has fallen to the planet!" .... where is it? Lol

    I support Iceteroids.

Just need to be able to stick Water Extractors to them. They already work perfectly stuck in the snow of Snow planets. No reason not to reuse that code-chunk to make Iceteroids.

Ice! Another long-term wish of mine. Have raised this several times and joined in more than a few threads on the subject.
+1 this thread! We are the spark of hope, that will light the fire, that will burn The First Order down make ice a thing.

Here are some potential uses for ice in case anyone from DEV is listening in and wonders "Why"?
    • The production of water, O2 and hydrogen on cold planets as well as harvesting these resources from space.
    • A great way to bulk harvest water and O2 late game.
    • Using as a coolant ingredient for use in reducing temperature around hot devices (engines, generators, etc)
    • If coolant becomes a thing then this would be good ingredient for crafting temperature and EVA modules for armour, or even some medicines and/or food (or ammo a cryo weapon ;))
I had also suggested long ago that you could also harvest other gases from Ice such as nitrogen for use as booster fuel, fertiliser and munitions (This was long before the change of the ammo recipe so that last one kinda came true!).

You do know that you can stick a water extractor directly into snow and harvest water, right? Works on Ice Worlds and anywhere you find Snow on other planets too.

Its already a thing.... look in the item menu.
Your input and ideas are appreciated nonetheless.
    Love it!

Ah, it has been while since I've played now. Didn't know about the ice extraction thing and not seen all the new items and intermediatary items yet since they've had the big overhaul.

The coolant item is for planned missions and/or trading. It's classed as a Commodity item in the configs along with narcotics, toxic waste, chemicals and air filters among other similar items.
They need better item sprites though. They look like the art department just google image searched the item name and took the first image they found, whether it was accurate or not.

But we do need ice as an ore for asteroids, common asteroids. To make life in space without planets possible.

Imagine a server with the majority of it just being space..... hmmmm?
The value of asteroids, whatever the material would be much more than the current planet based resource.

It wouldn't take much more than a few edits to recipes to make it a more functional item..... giving it greater value.

I wrote a similar suggestion a week ago maybe. With an other suggestion about an adteroids content.

If someone get the task. Should be good to condensate anf maybe discuss togheter all the asteroids/ice related suggestions on one single topic and propose a package to dev team.

    What you think?

    Ladder = Thin block Elevator

This would be amazingly easy to add, just duplicate the Elevator block, make it a thin block, change the model mesh to look like a ladder and done.
