    Mode: Survival
    Mode: Singleplayer

    SEED-ID: 30061965

    MODIFIED PLAYFIELDS: No

    Reproducibility: Sometimes
Severity: PC Restart - not just the game crashing the whole PC crashes

Summary: Load an existing game there's a buzzing noise and the PC restarts

Description: Doesn't happen all the time, but shortly after loading a save - within 15 - 20s - there's a buzzing noise and the PC crashes.

It never happens again after a restart.
Only happens with Empyrion, not other games.

There's no crash log for the game, nothing in the event logs.

Last thing in the game log is:

Shader 'MicroSplat/Terrain': dependency 'AddPassShader' shader 'Hidden/MicroSplat/AddPass' not found
Shader 'MicroSplat/TerrainDistant': dependency 'AddPassShader' shader 'Hidden/MicroSplat/AddPass' not found

Some computer specs would be nice. :)

Games like Empyrion nowadays don't have direct access to hardware anymore. So a software product causing a reboot without any other cause is highly unlikely.
Even if it does not happen in other games (so far) doesn't mean it won't happen with other programes games anytime soon. I have observed that Empyrion draws a LOT of video power, more than the most of my other games, even if they are modern triple-A games.

The most common things that can cause a severe crash/reboot like this are:

    - driver failure
    - hardware failure like power supply/RAM/mainborad/video card
    - power surge
    - overheating
    - OS failure

I would suggest (in that order):
    - update video card drivers -> rule out driver issues with some (new) functions Empyrion uses.
    - memory test/benchmark e.g. Memtest86 (runs in DOS) to see if it's reproducable there as well. -> rule out (some) hardware failure
    - observe cpu temps, voltage and frequency during loading of game with something like CoreTemp -> temp or voltage issue -> rule out cooler issue/hardware failure.
    - After that I'd run some CPU stress test and see, again while observing temp, voltage and frequency and see if happens there as well.

That would be the first things I'd try.

Hope that helps a little. :)

Used Free memory ( Before runing emp and after runing and loading savefile)
How much Free space you got on drives (Volumes where you store Game and OS) - THis could be a issue tho windows could tell you you ran out of memory
    Do you use Pagefile.

Yeah, sorry about the missing specs - had to rush out and pick my daughter up:
    I7-3770K
    16GB
    GTX 1060 6GB (latest driver)
HD has 1.6TB free - doesn't run off C which is an SSD.
    750W power supply

I'll get hold of memtest & CoreTemp. This only ever happens with Empyrion, so I'm guessing it's doing something that's overstressing the graphics card, judging by the odd noise.

Try restricting your fps in game to the recommended 60 or as low as 40 if it persists and see how that goes, should take some strain off the videocard.

When you say there's a buzzing noise, is this coming from the speakers or the computer itself?

Still happening, but not as often. Haven't had it with 9.4 yet... Trouble with trying to monitor it is the PC crashes and logs don't get written.

A buzzing noise coming from your PC isn't a good thing and is an indiction of hardware potentially failing. I'd remove the panel on the side of your PC and try listening where the sound is coming from. If you can isolate it, this'll be much easier to troubleshoot.

I had some problem too. Too hot graphic card and weak power supply. Gues what happens when you conbine the two effects together. The fans are going faster and faster and the computer crashes without a blue screen. The truth is Empyrion makes graphic card very hot.. I bought better power supply and opened my computer case.^^ Buzzing (signal?) could be a sign of damaged memory? It depends on the signal.
