RP Aides #1 : Making sense of the Akua star system

    I undertook this as a first step in making sense of the layout of the Akua star system, utilizing some RPG world building tools, etc.

    Unnamed Star, G8III (yellow giant, 13 billion y.o., approx. 2 billion y. left in this stage)
    Temperature of approx. 5000 K
    Very similar to real star Epsilion Virginis (also known as 47 Virgnis, or Vindemiatrix)

    The reason for the yellow giant is that is the combination of size/luminosity that would be required to create a star system with an appropriately sized human friendly habitable zone and large enough "lava" zone that the Akua setup shows.

    There are 8 known worlds in this star system, plus an extensive asteroid field. The presence of such a wide scattering of asteroids, some of the inner planets even taking on rings of the debris, indicates the possibility of a relatively recent (last billion years) event.

    It is assumed that distances as provided in game between worlds in the system are averages of closest approaches that the various planets/points in space have in relation to one another as they orbit the star.

    On examination, if one were to look "top down" at the system there would seem to be two hemispheres within which the planetary bodies tend to be in while they are orbiting. One can assume that due to their orbital rates and other possible vagaries of orbital paths that the bodies find themselves staying roughly within one or the other of the hemispheres, which we will label "A" for Akua side of the star, and "M" for Masperon side of the star.

    In the table below, the orbit given is for that body from the star, keep in mind that the planet or object in question may be "ahead" or "behind" the exact path around the star and not in a direct line as the numbers may want to draw your mind to a straight line path.

    B is the Blackbody temperature in Kelvins

    (some spelling errors exist in the planet names, I shortened some names for my own convenience, you can still understand what is what)

    Interpreting the above, if you were looking "top down" at the system you would tend to see the planets orbiting the star with the "M" objects opposite the star from the "A" objects (one can assume that the star in game is lifted "up" out of the line of sight to make it easier to "see across" for warping, etc.)

    So, once again looking "down" on the system...if the "M" objects were "above the center" you would likely see the objects in the system in this order (imagine if they are aligned from "top" to "bottom", which they certainly are not, nor should they be -- this is merely an exercise in understanding the split between the two hemispheres):

    Masperon
    Zey
    Asteroids (AF)
    Asteroids (AO)
    Aitis
    *STAR*
    Aestus
    Skillon
    Asteroids (TO)
    Omicron
    Akua
    Ningues

    Given that Aitis and Aestus, though close to the star relative to the other planets, their orbital period (or local year) is likely very close to an Earth year...meaning that instead of zipping about their star like our Mercury, they take a long leisurely route.
    On the outside track, Ningues likely takes about a decade to circle the star.

    All in all this means that, for the most part, humans examining the relationship between the various planetary objects at any particular point in time will find those relationships/distances to be relatively stable, seemingly "unmoving" and constant compared to travel within our own inner solar system.

    While all the outer worlds seem to have oxygen atmospheres, it could be possible to have different chemistry at the alien world...like instead of water, the liquid of choice is ammonia, leading to the possibility in the future of having the alien species be playable with differences such as instead of having water collection stations, they would have ammonia stations, so on and so forth (some ideas of which I put down in this thread.)
