Continuing my musings of "interpreting random game elements as actual plotline clues" :), similar to the "Root Beer" storyline that can't but raise suspicions in any in-game-universe character with reasonable intelligence were it a real world (see thread "So, about that Root Beer"), these radiation weather patterns are quite odd, too, aren't they?

Here, I think, they actually might be an intended plot element and the devs just haven't used them yet. Or they could be just "additional random cool stuff" some dev cooked up when he played around with weather effects. But. They sure seem a bit odd and then there are all those other things that give you the impression that there indeed is a connection...

In the more extreme planets you could argue the irradiated weather has a natural explanation but consider the temperate planet. What would cause it there? It seems very out of place in that kind of an ecological environment, and there doesn't seem to be any particular technological or settlement based source for it, either.

Except that irradiated biome. Which also seems very out of place and completely different compared to the rest of the planet. It seems quite unlikely that a natural evolution would have created it.

Also, when you explore that irradiated biome you can't help but notice, that the structures there are usually from that one faction: Legacy. Any buildings there not belonging to them seem to all be ruins.

And then there are the Talon missions were they are becoming worried about the "spreading corruption" that seems to be changing the world. These missions also link to the Legacy.

Just random stuff happening? Maybe, but let's not forget that "once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, but the third time is enemy action."

A theory: Legacy is trying to *terraform* the planets and that's what we're seeing. The irradiated weather is part of that and the irradiated biome is the area that's already been transformed. Or it could be that Legacy tried to terraform the planets in the past when the first war against them happened and this is the "left over" that's still active and working. In any case it's not a natural phenomena and Legacy is or was behind it.

So, when are we going to get story missions that touch this part? Maybe first discover what is going on and then trying to stop it? There, several chapters worth of stuff, at least. ;)

I've always wondered if there might end up being more we could do besides just killing Abominations and liberating abandoned POIs from them. Such as perhaps having a long term goal to attempt to cleanse these planets from the Legacy infection by removing their Helixes, Artifacts, and "Unknown Structures" from the area. Not necessarily just by killing the computer core in these places, but by physically tearing them all down. Including some kind of overarching goal to remove infected parts of other buildings.

It would be really cool if doing so then led to a point where you've cleansed enough of them to begin understanding their technology and finding a non-infectious way to begin using it to the galaxy's advantage.
