It is kinda big thing, especially if there is a 'backstage' reason (like AAA companies and their current loot problems & bad sales), but Steam suddenly made our game collections private/hidden by default - so SteamSpy can not get its data anymore! Interesting stuff, couple of months ago Steam praised SteamSpy as a great info-tool for game makers... for more info - https://twitter.com/Steam_Spy This is bad (a bit) for our Empyrion Alpha 8, just around a corner and we won't see its impact on game base - lots of people looked at SteamSpy after every new EGS content drop (maybe something will change again soon, who knows)
still I can take some data from ? http://steamcharts.com/cmp/383120,359320,220200,244850#3m https://steamdb.info/app/383120/graphs/
Not just valve. Most companies now implementing additional privacy settings due to the latest fb and Cambridge scandal
I wouldn't want a 3rd party to have access to my data unless I chose to deliberately make it available anyhow. Seems like a good thing to me.
The nice/bad thing is it also hides 'currently playing'...you don't have to then load a second game or go 'offline' if you don't want to broadcast your current distraction. Nice, in that you can now log into an MMO or such, and not have your contact list suddenly jump in-game and want to party you. Sucks when you 1) wanted to solo, and 2) party size is 5 but 10 people jump in Or your boss wonder why you're 'working from home, but playing vidya'. Apparently lunch-breaks are for fooding only. Or for those with ...socially-frowned taste in games, you can enjoy your Hunniepop on Friday Nights without feeling judged Bad? Several of my purchases were entirely because "So and so is now playing ____" and I became curious. So a ding on free-advertising and in-direct recommendations.
I liked being able to look at estimates of total unit sales from SteamSpy. Shame that data is now kaput.
