Between a rock and a hard place?
Depends on what you mean by "in-game property". Thrusters is an option, so that means not just a base, but SVs can't mount turrets.
Also is this referring to protecting from other players or base attacks?
Because you don't need turrets and more turrets to stop a base attack, just enough to get the job done. Especially since base attack levels don't seem to increase anymore so the attacks don't get stronger over time like they used to/are meant to.
The best defence is having no enemies.
This is another loaded poll, just like the CPU extender one.
Every single one of those answers applies depending on the specific situation.
What is the goal behind this poll? Is something going to be removed or nerfed because of the votes?
I chose "won't tell you" because I fear every good idea that could come up on this subject has a chance to become obsolete.
Good tricks only work for so long before other players start using them, so there's no logic to reveal them in advance.
This means my preferred way to protect my stuff is to use my brain. And since the "won't tell you" option was available it shows it was expected... mmmm...
We are doing it kinda like this:
So there is a square of defense Bases and some further defense Bases inside and in between we park our CVs.
After an Attack some Bases do look like this:
But no one came ever through.
(The 2nd picture is made in a game we were 5 players and had a doubled defense line. In the first picture we were just 2.)
I tend to use a mix of tactics when it comes to defense. Many times location is a factor. I've build bases inside of mountains, deep underground, on lakes of lava, or in low orbit. I use turrets, though not nearly as many as some folks - usually not more than 4. I tend to do a fair bit of defending myself - coming to greet unwelcome visitors with a shotgun, laser rifle, rocket launcher or whatever I have on hand - or by SV.
I use shields when necessary - usually about mid-way through construction. I've rarely had to add Pentaxid to the tank.
I also tend to build low power profiles, so as not to attract too much attention, and have gone hours or even days between attacks, and in some cases, have simply never been attacked (deep sub-terrainian bases good for this).
PAX ROMANA...if they don't like it...well, there are still some guns lying around to "enforce" it.
best defense is killing every one/things on sight that can be a enemi
Asking dumb questions about something that might seem to have obvious reasons, means ruling out the reasons that might have something or nothing to do with it
It's somewhat troubling when the most consensual and prompt answer from forum goers to a game moderator question is, "Why you asking this? What you gonna screw next?"
I am allowed to ask dumb questions. Thats part of my job description.
Probably the intention is, that we'll add wooden sticks, forks and stone axes...so next time a feature is added, it is easier for everyone to express their dislikings by massing up around our virtual door with the appropriate tools at hand. How does this sound?
Can I get the limited-edition Wrought Iron Pitchfork?
I won't tell anyone I'll be using it to keep the spoon-wielding masses at bay....
Flame breath? No? OK, OK.... Other: Trenches.
That route is getting old, but fair enough, let's respond with a dumb answer :
A glowing polarised turret of combat steel supported by thrusters obscured with a overly confusing wall that scares anyone away.
I guess I have an unique way of defending my camp site / base.
I make HV's that I park in an circle around the base, then I turn their thrusters/RCS/hover engines off to conserve fuel.
Since they are separate entities, they will not go down if the BA is hacked or the BA's core gets popped.
Now that CPU is a thing, they do not count towards the CPU total for the BA/CV/SV.
They also do not count as part of the BA's defenses when the game calculates the strength of a Zirax attack.
Once I have the resources I will add turrets to the BA, but the HV's normally come first.
Now that SV - HV docking is a thing, I made a SV to transport 4 HV's when I travel.
In the past I would use a CV to transport them.
Question won't those hv's guns turn around and try to kill your base if it's hacked?
Umm, because this is fun?
Yes, yes they will.....
Depending on turret settings of course. Forgot that bit earlier. Don't allow them to attack bases, HV's, SV's, or CV's and you should be fine against just drones and ground troops.
