[ZeroG] Challenge Build 03 (Hover Racer & Base)

    Let me just say the turnout with this challenge is incredible! Each person here has truly made some very memorable racers! I cannot wait to have a track set up so that we all can finally test our designs out!

    This being said you all might have noticed an influx of downvoting pertaining to this challenge. I understand this gives an negative feeling and sometimes discourages you from building/ playing. Please do not let this or these individuals take you love for this game away! There will always be people that try to hold others back but giving up is not the answer! We can over come this by getting more and more people to participate in this challenges! I challenge you to tell a friend or post on the forums, here or steam, and try to get them to join us here to build as many racers as we possibly can!

    Again I just want to thank you all from me personally. I really see that this community is filled with wonderful people that really see a bright future with Empyrion! So Thank You All!

    Its that time once again folks! New Challenge is ready to be unleashed! Where I am from racing is a big part of our city. I wanted to bring a big of that feel to the Empyrion Community! So lets usher in the ARL (Akuan Racing League)!

    So as you might have guessed, or read the title, this challenge is geared towards Hover Racing. The goal is simple, build a race inspired HV and you will also need to build an Showcase Podium to go with the HV.

    Also as always, we want to limit to just one entry per person.

    Again I am sure there will be questions and concerns, so lets discuss them here.

    <Oher opportunities> What would racing be without a track!? Well we are going to work on that as well. We'll need some volunteers for some themed structure builds.
    Examples:
    -Pit lanes
    -Grandstands
    -Racing style track sections. curves, tunnels, ramps, chicanes
    -Larger Advertisement billboards (using the shipbuilders from this challenge only!)
    -Start and Finish line (this one I want to have set up with some logic, do light barriers trip when HV's roll across them? Thoughts and ideas are much welcomed!
    -Lap counter (not sure if there is anything we can do here, but if someone knows of a solution to counting laps I am all ears!)
    -Scenario, We are going big scale here! Since there will be multiple track pieces, we'll need to have a dedicated scenario set up to make life easier to play this track!

    I wonder if Lap Counting could be managed with a combo of Motion Sensors, Signal Logic, & LCDs?

    I have been trying to dig into this but I don't know if this will be possible.

    I do know that an HV can trip both the Light sensor barrier and a motion detector. So piloting an HV over those sensors can trigger a circuit.

    I habe made a racer before sadly its name is viper. :-D

    I also have gates that work by flashing a ring of light when people in their racers pass through them. But lap counting is probably a little harder. Starting lights i have concept which makes a sequence of lights (red, red, red, yellow, green) by a person passing motion sensor. I guess it will be easier when the new changes in the signal logic system come.

    As an avid hover racer I have to ask: why two generators and two fuel tanks instead of just one each? Is this for a rally event across the 64x32 planets in alpha 8? ;)

    I think it was mostly cause if only one, we'd be almost pigeonholed into HAVING to put them in the Center Row of Blocks of the Creation... Mass Distribution-wise... gimping Creativity a bit... at least, that was what I worried about when I talked about it on the ZeroG Discord. 2 of those can be placed on the Centerline one in front of the other OR one on each side, thus giving more options.

    AFAIK we would probably need a programing block for that ....

    Need to make a few tests but there's currently no way to count stuff afaik

    We can possibly use LCDs to hold data but we have no way to do calcs

    Futermore we have no way to tell who went through the gate, if racer 1 or 47 and even if we only count as race laps in general by registering a lap for every time all have gone through, if one misses or has one lap more or less than the others it all fails

    But need to check further. ...

    What about timers? Is there a solution for a timer of sorts? Maybe hosting time trials could be possible. Even if someone has to flip the switch to shut off the timer could be a possibility.

    Just thinking out loud here.

    I fear there is no solution for this right now. But as @Kaeser said, i would need time to check too. So if someone has an idea i would be interesting too.

    Until then i have an idea about a unified "racer transport and support" CV, like a mobile pitstop. And race gates you could place along the track you want to go, with said lightflashes when somebody passes them. Just don't know when i have time to do so.

    Regarding time trials... maybe we can have a switch power up a BA, and then another shut it off, using the fuel remaining as the counter?

    Oh nice! This could work out as a fall back plan if a wiring solution is not found.

    I think i have seen these types of counters in my minecraft youtube travels.

    So if we use fuel as a counter, i have a couple of questions.
    -how fast does it tick down the remaining fuel?
    -what devices do we use to power it?

    Really just to keep is consistent and setting a standard to adhere too.

    Counters are technically possible with the signal logic given but they would be very unreliable. When I built the multistage starting lights for my Flying Circuit I saw variations of up to 20%(!) in timing with two counters running simultaniously.

    I can't remember if the console has a time stamp... maybe we can perform an action that makes an entry in the console at the start, and then again at the end?

    I suspect the only reliable way of telling who the winner is currently is arming the HVs

    Yeah, the last one standing wins..... Simple!..... :D

    If questions remain admin can also unleash a few drone waves....
