Folks asked, so it's back. The challenge is to make a low level starter CV that needs two small generators to power it. The rules: 1. No components requiring Zascosium or Erestrum, (these are beginner ships after all) 2. The CV must look like a ship, not a collection of flying parts. 3. The vessel must weigh below 1 kiloton. 4. The vessel must provide an oxygenated area for the pilot. 5. The vessel must keep hazardous components away from the pilot. (No roasting/irradiating the player). 6. The vessel needs landing gear, no slamming the hull into the ground. 7. You are only allowed two small generators to power it, and the generators cannot redline (go over 90%) during flight on Omicron. Bonus points: Make the ship a mobile base. Keep the LVL requirement at LVL 10 or below. Note: During the last challenge we found out (the hard way) that a small generator can only handle 6 small thrusters, max. The low weight requirement is there so the ships will not fly like a brick. Be warned, the more goodies you add the more power they draw. Entries that meet the challenge will also be added to the collection.
@Fluffy, 2. The CV must look like a ship, not a collection of flying parts. Sheesh! You're stifling my creativity. Spoiler
Hi, besides removing the Repair Station my old Entry still applies. I have left the Warp included (even if it is ontop), but it wasn't required so if it's not pleasing... just remove My Solution: FULL mobile Base at only 521t (that is nearly at half the requested weight! ) and level 10 http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1134979371 HOME ONE Your about smallest possible feature complete Home base you ever need ;-) Large Constructor (can be upgraded into Advanced) and Food Processor O2 Generator and full O2 oxygenated (2x T1 Tanks) and air tight environment Warp Drive, Warp drive Tank and Gravity Generator Full Medic Station, all 4 Scanners and living stuff (bed, toilett, shower) for the usual benefits! Armor locker and Place for Repair station (costs Z&E therefore removed) 9x Growing plots already filled 4x Small Cargo boxes and 1x T2-Fridge Comes default only with Steel Hull to keep the Resources needed low. Comes with 1x Minigun-Turret, can be upgraded with 3x more at the Cockpit and 2x on Roof) 1x Thruster each Side and a RCS (can be upgraded to 2x or 4x each Side at the marked locations!) Small Power Generator for the Challenge; when you add more Thrusters you need to upgrade Generator too! UPDATE: 2x Small Generator used now. Docking points on the Sides for SV_EscapePod and SV_SkyRocketSled 4x Switches (light red : Thrusters, blue : Hangar Door & Ramp, dark red : Gravity Generator, brown: Constructor + Food Processor) Sensors for lights and automated Hangar Door and Ramp opening Spoiler: more pics edit: okay seems the energy consumption is made worse since the last challenge? I am at 96% redlining atm... need to go through a second time... every single thing even deco consoles, cargo boxes and O2 tanks needing 1KW... ... for.... what?! edit2: 2x Small Generator used now, some Devices moved therefore, but nothing other changed; pics still the old ones, new Tonnage is 541t
Here's the Tiny Hawk: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1221717694 A cheap knockoff of the already inexpensive Chicken Hawk -- http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=759074175. The Tiny Hawk comes with the following: rear docking space with extendible ramp organised cargo area with lots of space (5 cargo boxes) 9 space farm food processor fridge advanced constructor medic station, shower, and toilet armor locker gravity generator large O2 tank O2 station internal ventilation side-mounted minigun turret lots of extra space for further upgrades All in a compact package with simple open concept layout. Compared to the original, critics dislike the reduced acceleration, replacement of regular steel instead of the Chicken Hawk's skin of hardened steel and reduction of the power system to a small generator from a large. The internal space is also slightly reduced compared to the original. The internal layout is considered better than the original. The manufacturer has left hardened steel at all points computer simulations show at most risk.
After some more test... I have to say, this is NOT POSSIBLE. That is, to make a full mobile Base that does not redline in athmospheric flight manoevers on Omicron (that is pressing W + A + Steering Mouse to the right - all simultan!). Redlining occurs at 95% (value goes red, that is even more fuel consumption than yellow!) I've gotten mine down to 94%, yes, but now this ship is without Warp, without any Deco console, without O2 Station, without Medic Station and all 4 Scanners, anything shut down (lights, turret, constructor, food proc, grav gen) - not O2 ventilator (that was required!), even changed 2 small O2 tanks and 4 small cargo boxes in their large counter parts to save power... It's really really stripped now... @Fluffy please reconsider your challenge if you want either no redlining (then it's about the same as the last one) OR mobile base (with allowing redlining OR T1 large generator OR 2x small generator)... @sillyrobot your entry is redlining too at 96% @Fluffy and your own entry reaches 101% after disabling Gravity generator it's at the same 96% we others have... still redlining... disabling anything other - besides Vents - still leaves it at 96%.. that's the magic borderline... I repeat, I don't believe a full mobile Base with the usual stuff is possible with the Challenge criteria.
First attempt. Does not exceed 94% on Omicron. Airtight, Adv. constructor, Food Processor, Fridge, 4 Cargo Boxes, Ventilator. 342t weight.
I tried the old blueprint, you are right, it will sometimes go past 109%. I guess the devs changed something in regards to energy consumption, and the small generator is next to useless in a CV. I tested the energy consumption on another CV: 93% for THIS!: So, do we want to change this to dual small generators or a single large T1?
If you're going to allow more generator power then it would be good to also specify what must be included. As far as I'm concerned a CV is a mobile base once it has enough cargo capacity, including a fridge full of canned goods, to hold the necessities for a regular base. Others will certainly differ. Possible inclusions: Constructor Food processor Fridge O2 station Minimum number of cargo boxes Ventilator Medic Station Clone chamber Lights Gravity generator Weapon(s) with ammo box. Etc. More power is fun but a T1 generator puts out 10X the power of a Small. I think that's too much for this challenge. Maybe 2X Small. Other than my entry, there were some good looking, well equipped entries in the last challenge despite the limited power.
You will be happy to know that I raised the generator limit to 2 small generators. Side note, there is one area in the ship where you can walk right up to the back side of a thruster and roast. Maybe move one of the cargo boxes into that space? Side note, why not build something completely new? I am. I raised it to dual small generators. Not so tiny hawk (compared to the other submissions). It maxes out at 96% in atmospheric flight, but it does look a little unfinished. Hovering refrigerator and food processor? No entry ramp, but jetpacking in is no biggie. A basic warp jumper with cargo boxes and a constructor. I did not get irradiated or roasted anywhere in the cabin. Very light and responsive, the most I could get the generator to was 94%. The only bad part, the enemy AI will target exposed O2 and fuel tanks, and they go BOOM! (But that was not in the challenge), a very nice ship. Cheap, responsive, the highest I could get the generator to go was 94%. Easily the smallest submission so far. Hmmm... the blueprint shows red for me, you may have a legacy block or two in there. Had to jetpack in, fell off the core into the bay (stairs?) Got roasted by a thruster when I crammed myself into the corner next to the food processor. Also got roasted by a thruster when I stood on the back edge of the core. Well folks, here are the current submissions, the dome in the background is the one I am working on. Remember, you can use two small generators now.
Time to make a dual generator CV then! No need to have both, once you have a med station the clone chamber becomes useless.
It only has a single generator still -- haven't had time to adjust since the change . The floating gear occurred as I stripped it down to try and avoid redlining. I'll adjust today and resubmit: probably after I reset the hull to hardened steel.
That's the space where the Repair Station shall be placed Marked with a BIIIIG "R" But right, bringing a large Cargo-Box in... and right... perhaps I'm building a new ship as well...
Here we go, presenting the Alpha: Less than 800 ingots of anything, internal hangar, large landing pad on top (that is also oxygenated!), advanced contructor, two turrets, does not redline at all, reasonably agile and space for two passengers! Also medical scanners because why not? Still some space left if you need more. The ramps on the sides are connected to a motion sensor for easy boarding, not blocks besides ramps and landing gear touching the ground either. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out! @Fluffy, Not sure why the BP shows red. I built from scratch and in a hurry while working on importing handmade terrains. Maybe it's being rejected because it's too good looking. I'll try it again if I find a good spot to break from the import project.
