I didn't miss anything. I've played EGS both with and without Joy2Key, and there was no difference. Perhaps if I'd set it to emulate mouse input instead of keypress, it might have to a degree- but I didn't because that would only cover two axes. EGS doesn't yet support analog for roll or any thrust vector at all... but it's still alpha and I'm hopeful.
The analogue roll axis would be nice, but the throttle axes being analogue seems a little pointless in a game where the speeds vary between 0 and 40 m/s on a planet. And yes, emulating the mouse input with the JoyToKey allows for very smooth operation of flight, whereas key inputs are always going to be "full on" or "full off". I find it invaluable in Empyrion, but I can understand it not being to everyone's tastes.
