Went with a PVE build. Didn't quite turn out as I intended it to be at first but this works, too! Gotta grab something to eat now, will upload more screenshots and BP later.
I'm more simple minded ... in that I send a "tank" to kill something. It does not pass go, collect $200, hunt, harvest or do anything but carry lots of armor, guns, and ammo from point a to point b as quickly as possible. Everything has it's place though so it's gonna be fun to see what folks come up with.
Wow, nice design sir Knum. I like the aggressive yet organic feel to it. The "guest mode" has me chuckling. THAT is one mean motherfucker. Dayum. Very clever build - but "punch you in the face clever" not the "haha, I am going to sneak in through a grate clever."
Hey I need a separate armor locker so we can all use our own boosters... I don't want your boys down there!
I think my entry is coming along quite well...a little texture maybe a few more block shapes and it should be good to go
As promised here is the upload with a bunch of additional screenshots: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1315536710 As you can see here the Scarab uses hover engines at two different levels and a rear weight bias to tilt the tank slighty upwards. It also has lots of free space between the level of the front hover engines and the actual body of the vessel. These measures greatly increase the ability to cross difficult terrain and also aide in finding targets for the forward firing miniguns. Most of the hard hitting turrets are mounted vertically so you can fight elevated targets like tower bases, planetary vessels, drones, or SVs. Since you can only mount a single artillery turret with vanilla limits this lead to a asymmetric turret placement. Me being me means there is some signal logic here, some of which you have already seen in the cockpit screen: The three switches are: - Engines: enables/disables all drive systems (thrusters, RCS, hover engines) - Turrets: enables/disables all turrets - Guest Mode: unlocks the rear door, passenger seats, and allocated devices The switches work as toggles with another toggle being available in the control panel so you can always access them without leaving your seat. Additionally there is a lockdown available in the control panel to keep the rear door closed. In the cockpit screen you can also see the top of the combat cockpit which can also be accessed directly from below through a hatch. The status screens in the cockpit are mirrored here: Let me know what you think!
I would be surprised if using a Closed Cockpit + 2 Closed Passenger Seats was deemed illegal. Woot! Many thanks for the response! Weapon Minimum Quota met on my Entry then... if I manage more, that'll be a sweet sweet bonus. My Entry definitely won't be competitive in Looks... but i'll dare to hope it'll at least stand its ground Combat-Wise. With that said, this Entry may not be the best i've ever done in terms of Tank Building... i've been away from the Tank Building Scene too long trying to await Data Sample Size for Tyrax Hover War Tank Combat that's ended up never coming... I might have to just plain give up on obtainability of Data Sample Size & just plain build more Tanks more often. To that end, participating in this Challenge hopefully is a start in the right direction, giving me something to use to scrape my Tank Building Skills rust off with & enabling further Mad Empyrion Science Experimentation. Yeah, I use the T2 Hover Engines mostly for Tanks. Uh oes... this may turn back into a Competition after all! I was supposed to Armor Locker, Fridge, & Cargo Box the Driver/Pilot too!? *Facepalm* I only got'em a Fridge... >_< Can't think of any reason why ya'd be unable to Vote... ya just wouldn't have yourself available to vote FOR if ya don't keep the WarMonGer in... which ya totally should keep in. I don't think Frac's worth listening to on that one. I've been figuring Jenn wants the 2 Passengers to have their own personal Cargo Box, Armor Locker, & Fridge cause they're required to bring their own stuff along with them & use their own versions of those things so the Driver gets to keep THEIR version of them personal & to their own liking... plus sharing with uncivil brats can be insufferably annoying. *Imagines all these Tanks being like Guns for Hire to go Sport Hunting in with Customer Passengers who tend to come from snooty conceited moneybags kinds of walks of life...* Even if ya don't pack a Constructor in your Tank to make On-The-Go Salami, it's useful to have a Fridge to store Perishables, like Egg Plant Parts in to buy them time till ya get back to Base, especially when HVs can idle while turned on so Fuel Efficiently. & I schlurp'em with joy with NO REGRETS! Pumpkin Flavor is awesome! *Still trying to find out where your Base is so I can blow it to hell for you calling me a Arceus Damned Spice Girl...* *Makes mental note to Install Minigun Turrets inside HV pointed to guard the Fridges...* Honestly, my Entry's gonna be doing a lot of weird screwy things I don't typically do in a REAL Tank Build. ... hmm... a worthy point...
So I need to figure out what I am going to do for this challenge. I have another old HV that would fit this challenge, Gorman-X but i don't know. I will need to just hop into the game and try a few ideas tonight. I'll throw some screenshots up if i make any progress tonight.
Well holy crap, with @SirKnumskull 's explanation I just learned a lot. What a clever idea to place the turrets vertically. I subb'd and went for a stroll and found myself unable to get into the vehicle when lying flat. It might have to do with the backwards tilt? Probably, still remove two of those blocks and problem solved. What is more, that is a nice entrance - I like the motion sensor. Then I was greeted by neat seats and I thought, "How pleasant!" Then I looked up... *oops* and uttered an audible "Ha!" That **** is amazing! Nicely done. I could not enter the doorway? *Goddamnit, another oops* *sigh* Just going to delete all the pics but the first.... aaaannnddd, never mind, they all go. Rawr! Again, likely due to the tilt of the vehicle, but that was fine as you can still enter and exit the cockpits. Did not test to see if a player could get back out again... but that is what blowtorches are for! *Snap-Hiss!* The LCD's are very nice. I tried them out and am prevented from showing them due to a super top secret reason, but I really, really enjoyed the dual screen effect. Cool design, very inspiring!
Um Tyrax before you go and attack my base with your little go kart...I will remind you of my yard dog....
I did a bunch more work earlier and think I have got my basic vessel shape sorted. The interior will be smaller than I'd like, and fitting all the parts in might prove.. interesting. But I think I'm happy with how it turned out.
I forgot to update the BP. Thanks for reminding me! Fixed that now, you can easily pass through the doors now. Painkillers messing with my concentration. Did you see the entrance at the bottom?
Yes! I just found that! Honestly, that is probably the best part of the whole thing. Extremely clever sir *tips cap.* I have been staring at: Visualizing designs... what goes there...? Hmmmmm... I build art that is fast and functional(meaning it can kill things and store things with the proper piloting skills.) However, this challenge calls for a tank. I confess I am not sure what to do yet.
