I tend to stick mine buried inside the SV Body deep in its body armored all around it. IMHO having it armored all around & not sticking it somewhere intended for Player Travel or standing in is the two biggies in deciding how to work with it. :) (I rate it at a comparable level of 'protection priority' to the likes of Generators & Fuel Tanks & such.)

Reminds me of Robot Shark's Warp Core Armorings on one of his dudes that looked like it was trying to be a Firefly Butt. :p

New alpha, new thrusters.... new upgraded BP's.... *wipes sweat of forehead*

First out in the "upgrade-line" was the Pilgrim.. Instead of just upgrading the thrusters, save it and upgrade the BP i workshop i figured to rather give it a full overhaul after noting down some points i made after using it a fair bit the last few days.
The upgrades got so extensive in comparison to the original that i made a new BP.

Gave it combat steel all around (dang zirax was masters of finding weakspot's where i only had hardened steel), more hoverengines (so it handles better over bumps when full of loot), more spotlights all around (so i can see them dang rocket-zirax before they unleash) and also changed the positioning of the rear miniguns to get a much wider and greater area they cover.

and oh yeah... made it blue instead of orange to not aggro spanj :D (real reason is for it to go better with the NSI Pandora)

Ok, so a bit of background. I spend an inordinate amount of time just ostensibly using Empyrion to play 'space legos'. At this point, I've probably got about 50 save files filled with various designs / blueprints / ideas since 2015. For me it's very relaxing and cathartic to just zen out after a long day and lose myself to some creative enterprise.

I very rarely release anything publicly because 1) I jump from build to build constantly and always keep things in a state of flux, and 2) my stuff is kind of 'extraneous' and not really needed to enjoy the game. I'm pretty happy with just building things for my own amusement.

However, I do really enjoy the community here and I feel a bit guilty about not 'contributing' more. For a change of pace I was actually planning on doing a quasi-guide detailing my exact process for building the following craft, including my missteps and design alterations (I do NOT usually design HVs). But then I quickly realized it wouldn't really serve much purpose - this community has so many awesome builders. There isn't really anything useful I could 'teach'.

Anyway, preamble aside, this craft is part of a lore-friendly campaign scenario I'm building. Not too sure when/if I'll ever get around to releasing the campaign in the state I want, so I figured this'll do as a kind of teaser for the vehicle and some of the planets the scenario takes place on.

The craft itself is a massive hunk of death metal that is totally impractical - however, I had a ton of fun
designing and playtesting it. Still needs a lot of tuning, but it's coming along. (Thank goodness for those revised HV thrusters on 9.4!)

This is breathtaking. I swear it looks like you jumped a few years ahead to the final/release version of the game, it looks that good. The lava cave, that ravine... The design on the HV is fantastic and it's not even the best part of those pics. They look like the kind of "sell the game" images you'd find on the box art, back when PC games still came in boxes on store shelves. Holy ****.

Sorry for not responding earlier - been a bit busy.

Thanks a lot for the praise - I consider you guys/gals to be amongst the best builders in the game, so it means a lot.

Anyway, w/r/t shots, I actually had a mini-section in the guide I scrapped about creating scenes. For the sake of brevity, it's almost entirely fooling around with color and lighting in the yaml files and creating custom heightmaps and stamps (Eleon's terrain editor is actually kind of a very crude version of World Machine - very powerful tool when used properly). The rest is just scene composition. Everything in the screenshots above (other than the gridline blueprint) is achieved entirely by experimenting with various colors, transitional weather settings, and the in-game terrain editor settings on custom planets.

I really like dynamic scenes that involve some sort of action - this is actually pretty easy to accomplish in-game using dm/gm console commands. One of the easiest ways to get some interesting combat scenes is simply making a copy of a SV/HV/BA/CV, putting an admin core in it (rendering it indestructible), placing a lot of enemy spawns at key locations, jumping in a cockpit, activating AI, swapping to 3PV, then capturing the fireworks.

Sometimes it requires quite a few attempts to get a scene just right. And by the end the field is usually completely decimated (grass and trees are always the first casualties), requiring a playfield reset. But I suppose that's part of the fun. ;)

As you wrote: to big, to expensive, only dead metal, I LOVE IT!

Where and when can we DL this scenario of yours?

    Amazing work!

The Polaris Sanctuary POI is coming along. :D

I mean it's nothing compared to the bomb @H.P. Strangelove posted above though! I think he just won the whole thread with that!

Updated the Thunder Naiad heavy tank. Like a number of my 7500 CPU conversions, I skipped some of the finer details, trying to have it at least all ready for that final polish.

    Changes include:

    7500 CPU.
    Integrated new thrusters.
Top, sides and front now is combat steel shell.
Slightly smaller and even lighter, even with the combat steel.
Harvest modules for going through trees instead of around them--I remember when I could ram the trees and go through them that way with this heavy tank....

I tried to keep this compliant as much as I could to the build challenge requirements from back then.

At least 2 passenger seats. Check.
1 fridge, cargo box, and armor station per seat. Check.
18 hours standby. Well, sort of check.

The original had enough fuel tanks to do 18 hours standby without really shutting anything off. However, to have 18 hours of "standby" with this conversion, I have to shut down all thrusters, hover engines, RCS, and so forth. All I have left on is one set of turrets, the automatic doors, and the oxygen systems. Essentially, with the cloning chamber and medical station, it is a parked field base for 18 hours. Somehow, I suspect this tank no longer qualifies for the challenge, but 7500 CPU is a beast to deal with. I suppose I could have sacrificed another couple thrusters in the back to get some more fuel tanks, but I was also trying to preserve some of the spirit of the original, and the original had a big, fat butt for all the thrusters the HV had back there. Sure, I am using a lot less with the alpha 9.4 update, but I still wanted some token nod to the original version of the tank.
