I'm a programmer myself for many years. I usually have a good estimation what is possible and what is not. Only a few days ago, Taelyn said, it is impossible to fix the broken astros in Eris/Plys without a wipe. After a little bit of nudging he found a way to do it. (btw, great job @Taelyn) Yes, you have to decide where to put your work force, but this depends on the criticality of the issue. Some issues are "show stoppers": data loss, crashes. It makes little sense to work an other issues, if you still got those. When the PWC was introduced some players lost the work of several weeks. Initially for a player it looked like they got a "data loss" (the ship is gone). I would say this is a show stopper. If I were responsible, I would never had installed this thing in the current state. It's also costing admin man power to restore lost ships (I think admin restored more than a dozen already - don't know how this works an HWS and other servers). So you have to see the whole picture. Maybe it costs 12 hours for a dev to fix something, but if it saves dozens of hours of work time for many admins, this may be worth it. If you want to be successful, you should also take care about your image. This is something that can hardly me measured in money (aka working hours). Its easily destroyed, but very hard to improve. Some companies invest millions just to do this. Creating bad feelings for players is not helpful for your image.
And that's why I don't think the gravity glitches/snap to "level" when its gone etc (just to name ONE long standing bug) will probably never get fixed. sigh. I can dream though.
My gf and I lost over two weeks of collecting on the "Official Server" and building when we flew into Trader orbit on accident. I understand and expect things will be adminsplained in a manner that make this our fault, but I will share my feelings about this anyway. I think it's not very fun and very misleading since we didn't start on Trader, that we are allowed to pass through it's space to get to Juno and the Asteroid field. As soon as we entered orbit, we were plummeting and all our stuff was gone. We're both kind of in shock that we are being punished for not understanding the conflicting messages about wipe counters and inability to access orbits once you leave starters. I really talked up this game to a lot of people, bought the game for my kids, and encouraged friends/coworkers/family to try out the official server to be their home, but after that, I think I'm done. This game has been a lot of fun, but maybe it's for the best. I cannot support policies of total annihilation like that, when we were just doing the exploration/survival thing. We weren't even tempting hostile or dangerous situations. It's not fun now, and seeing how bummed my gf is the worst of it. Good luck on your game development, and I hope you find a better way to manage overcrowding of structures so no one has to feel this way.
the reminder/warning that your bot posts every 5 minutes is very distracting, why is it so often? i avoid servers that spam you every 5 minutes, it's highly disappointing that the official server is one of them. why not every 30 minutes? I can't be the only one you're warding off by spamming the entire server.
Hello, but is this not a very long time? Its 4 months ago 9.0 was released. I dont prefer to have wipes every two weeks, but one time per 3 Months would be better to get the servers full again or not?
We dont wipe till the next major release thats how it is This is how we Always did it and how we Always will do it When Alpha 10 comes out u will see a post on the forum about it
I just logged into the Official US Server and my base is gone. I thought maybe I logged into the server too quickly after a server reboot so logged out and then back-in but nothing there but an empty flat space where the base once stood. Is this normal or was there some type of maintenance playfield refresh. I was on the server earlier this morning, logged out, then back in like 30 minutes later and "poof" no base. My base was built on the heath south of the landing zone in neutral territory.
Need more information. Base name, Pref an ID, Planet Name, Character name, Time when it was still there How long ago did u last play
Base Name = TRINITY Pref an ID = ?(unknown) Character Name = GRINGO Time when still there = 9:00 AM EST approximately Played this morning and just logged out of server before writing this because of the Heavy Acid Rain...etc... Honestly, it doesn't bother me if I lost everything and have to start over just want to fully understand the consequences of building bases or better understand the server wipe processes if that is what caused it to vanish. Also, I did read the server wipe posts for the Official servers.
Should be restored. Please take a look. It was decored, perhaps someone attacked u? There is no wipe, we forgot to put it on for A9
You mean attacked and core destroyed, yes? Okay, but I thought normally after the core is destroyed the rest of the building and items should still be there??? I'll go take a look after finishing the post and get back to you. Could an entire base and all items be removed in less the 15 minutes? Also, I had 4 cannons plus 4 sentry guns there but no offline protection.
No clue, it said Decored. So somehting happened to your core. Mecenary Camp is pvp Maybe drones? Or just something weird on the server. Ive used a backup so u should have your stuff from that point aswell
Thx Taelyn, the base is back and I asked around on the server if anyone wiped it out but no one knows anything. I wish I could get you more information in case this was a problem. I think when I logged in the server had just come back online because it didn't show on the list for the first ping cycle but did on the second ping cycle and I logged right back in again....maybe too soon? or I should have waited a bit, just guessing here...
