ahh it says so right here in this very thread:

First of all, the game development WILL NOT be stopped! We will continue to be working on refining features and fixing bugs. Subsequent releases will happen in the same frequency as before. No change here, except the version counter will not read ‘Alpha 13.x’ but simply ‘1.0’.

Not to mention the title of the thread is Leaving alpha early access

Refining features implies just the ones that are here. No new features.

I'm ok with that...as long as some of the features themselves fundamentally change. It'd be a stretch to call it "refining" some of these features, but oh well.

I've got my money's worth so far and still plenty left to see...hopefully this game can serve as a template for the next one that is created on a better engine.

Right. In Alpha anything goes but with an actual release (not even a BETA!) this has got to be quite narrow now. A short list of "this is going to make it in" and "this won't make it in after all" must exist. At what point does new content stop being added for completion and become DLC?

Actually it pushes the engine further than it was initially envisioned. Yes community mods are a large contribution for a game's worth but if a game is to be truly successful, it will not require a community to make the content. Too many game developers rely on others to do their work for them. There used to be a ridged testing development process to ensure things are done right. Today's QA standards are very lacking in many ways.

I have seen many multi and single player games come and go over the years. Most games today are to be quite honest, awful. I find I can enjoy a game much more when I have others to share in the experience. But which is the superior game style is not on trial here. Be it coop or competitive, a multi player game style will tell you what the engine can and cannot do more reliably than in an isolated environment. The team needs to focus on fixing the major issues across all game play types before attempting this quick $$ grabbing adventure. Let's face it, the terms Alpha, Beta, and Final are more for the marketing side and future investments than helping the player base that already owns the product. This is a rushed mistake just waiting to fail. I just hope I am dead wrong. I do enjoy this game very much and would hate to see it keep tripping over nonsense.

It's a novel approach, skipping into release without a beta. Puts a lot of pressure on future development not to break the game.

And this is release. Because it's not "early access" any more. No caveats about "work in progress" will bear much scrutiny.

An if A12 is defined as feature-complete (y'know, like, "not an alpha"), with all the gameplay loops present, then I can't see me and the better half staying. It's too half-assed. As in, it's trying to do more things than the dev team can properly finish. Cuz I wouldn't call *anything* I've met "finished".

Hope the big thing for release day is an actual working, comprehensible tutorial, because without that, the retention of newbies past the point of getting a refund is going to be close to zero. To date, when someone comes along saying "this tutorial is really horrible" (which is a valid opinion based on their experience), we've been able to say "early access; gonna need to do some self teaching". That won't be the case going forward.

please don't assume what you like is what everyone likes. I and many others play Empyrion EXCLUSIVELY for SP.

Well, if it is neither Alpha nor Beta (not a single word about being it) and it leaves Early Access, then it reasonable to presume that it is a RELEASE version 1.0...

Problem is that @Hummel-o-War dropped the bomb without much thinking about it, some better wording would help to avoid/clear the confusion about the whole situation...and the fact that A12 release was rushed out so messed up and buggy (even against quite large feedback about it) doesn't contribute to the faith that developers will this time actually hear the feedback from the community.

For me personally Empyrion Vanilla game is as Early Access (barely) tolerable experience (way to restrictive and boring after a short while) and i wouldn't spent much of my time on it as it is...the community on the other hand (scenarios like Project Eden and the HWS servers) are the only reason that i still play this game...
and with my 6400h of playtime, i think i also do know a bit what i am talking about...

This is not a matter of which game play type is better or worse. Preference is not the issue. Testing the limits of the engine will give a lot more data in resolving issues than in a single player environment. I have played and enjoyed the single player aspect of this game. I do not knock it or those who prefer it at all. The game has multiple options and the multiplayer side is much more intense on the engine. Therefore it needs much more attention to ensure the issues we all constantly see do not keep reoccurring.

    Page 1 this thread:
Point is, if they are actually planning to implement the missing features, there's no point to ending Alpha

Ending Alpha says "we're pretty much done"

Alpha - Full game release at this stage means only 1 thing.

Cash has ran out and it's time to consolidate and move on.

Alpha 12 has been a catastrophe and at full release without the 'Early Access' or 'Beta' to fall back on new players will leave this game dead in the water so quickly.

We always made excuses for the game because of Alpha one would assume the next step is Beta so you always tell yourself, things will get better over time.

There is no where else to turn and if you are happy with this announcement you are kidding yourself IMO.

no mans sky turned over more than EGS in it's first week than this has ever done. Only now they have finally got a 'good' game.

if you consider how long it has taken for NMS to get where it is an even relative compare you will know this game is going nowhere else.

Im not saying EGS would have ever been a AAA game at all, i am saying this indie game has reached it's natural end.

not taking anything away from the Devs and not saying they haven't worked damn hard over the years.

it is what it is, and this is the beginning of the end of EGS i would say.

in this climate how can anyone be surprised to be honest, things aren't looking good for many industries

One last reply to your rant:
I was BETA Tester for SWTOR - 1 of about 300.000 - and such a vital Part as Character Classes was added...in BETA.
So - the Main Frame of EGS is implemented into the Game, what now comes are some "lesser" Items of the Play/Tester-Base.

Over and out - have some testing to do - as required by the Devs.

Alpha 12 didn't even have multimonitor support (freely able to move cursor from game screen to other screen). I reported the bug in Steam discussions and moved on. Nobody replied since... great... I multitask things i may have to constantly scroll down with cursor, Empyrion doesn't let me do that and Alt-Tabbing minimizes whole game (or this might have been case in maximized windowed?). Something like this really kills the game for me.

Is that so? Wouldn't undiscovered planets from A 12 in V1 generate new POIs?

Sure. In Beta. Which EGS apparently won't have

Believe me, I'd like nothing better than for Eleon to prove me wrong on this

If they're planning substantial new content- not just fixing the issues but adding the missing, then this announcement was poorly thought out and worded at best

Also potentially a hope of larger development team will step in and take the ball. But yes this is the vibe I have been getting for a long time now. It's as if they are done and hope someone else will take over so they can sit back and collect royalties. Money and greed just seem to ruin everything.
