PLEASE give us a way to quickly and obviously identify bases with admin cores. It is super frustrating to setup an elaborate strategy, and waste a bunch of time and resources, because the base is basically invincible. I like the way that admin cores are being used to create mini quests. Unfortunately, the tactics for that style of base are completely different than for a base where we can just blow a hole in the wall.
Structures with admin cores have a different map icon, arrows pointing upwards, the same you see in Trading Stations They are used in some Legacy and Zirax structures because they would be too easy for the loot they have otherwise Yet you can be sure that any Zirax and Legacy POI with an Admin Core can be destroyed, except for the ones associated with quests
Even the ones associated with quests can usually be destroyed when the associated quest is complete. Some of the complaints i have seen, and mostly agree with about story implementation, are related to the timing of some of the story Point of Interests' Destruction.
Not really. There's no other way to avoid players from just shooting their way to the core without an admin core or 10+ layers of combat steel. And they'll take out some of the devices needed for the storyline and then get stuck.
While 8+ Layers of Alien Block can have a similar effect to the 10+ of Combat Steel. Your basically right, although were you trying to be polite by leaving out the ", then most likely come on to the forums to whine that the story system is broken" part after the getting stuck?
This is the only game on the market where you can blow your way through walls to get to the finish line, any other game out there you would have to go through the path defined by the developers, even in open world RPG games missions are predefined and people can't just blow up walls to get to the boss fight And admin cores are just like 10% of the total of all POIs out there but I guess people will just complain about not being able to cheat their way through no matter what....
Cheat? Who Cheat's? It's not my fault someone put a wall in my way! Nor is it my fault the game gives me these big ol guns to blow holes in walls. I could have sworn I read where it said that's what I was to use them for. I'm just doing what I was told I could do! That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!
Hmm. *tries to think of another* Nah, I guess you're right. Good point. e. only one I can think of might be Space Engineers custom scenarios. And Miner Wars 2081, although that is a bit of a niche title.
I think people prefer to consider it complaining about not having The Option to blast their way through. I have yet to see complaints about not being able to "Cheat" their way through via Console Command for God Mode then strolling through Wall or Console Command to Replace the Admin Core with a Regular NPC Core. I think the general consenus is that doing things other then following what appears to be the intended path (digging under or blasting through things) is more having options but using the console is specifically "Cheating"
I like to think of it as: if this game were real life, what options would be viable? and digging under and blasting in the side would definitely be viable. just look at the gold bank heist in that one Die Hard movie.
More like 0.0001% Even if we're counting by total blueprint files, it's still only about 2% of the total blueprints, half of which are only found on the starting planet and orbit.
Assuming one had dropped some neutron bombs first and cleared out the surface defenses, I don't think a very bad time would be had, at all.
To be fair, its possible to try and dig under a modern military base, and blow your way into sensitive areas. Your most likely to get caught and killed "resisting arrest" instead of being caught and tried for Treason then executed. However you could still make the attempt. An Admin Core does limit the Option to attempt a digging or blasting through instead of following along with the intended path. It is a Design Decision and the merits and flaws of it Should be subject to debate. While i personally find them occasionaly annoying, i can understand and accept that using an Admin Core to mitigate the most likely source of bugs completing missions is a more efficient use of the developers time then trying to anticipate every possible approach that could happen without an Admin Core and design/code each Point of Interest to still function from every possible approch.
Even with Turning the surface into a parking lot through carpet bombing (which would still involve going through a lot of defenses if you were approaching any sensitive Modern Base since the Air Space over a Base is also protected, usually with Rules of Engagement that do not leave would be attackers around) particulary secure bases have sub levels that are protected from surface damage and have their own security personal who would almost certainly be using War time Rules of Engagement if they knew the surface had been attacked with anything like the force required to eliminate the top defenses.
It's a valid point. And yes, you were too polite to finish with "and then come to the forum and complain". Mine has always been, there is a solution to both needs- integrate the core destruction into the storyline- either automated as in the Ilmarinen; or perhaps being given a lock code in the text that allows the player to open a shutter, behind which is the destruct switch. It's really just another aspect of being able to salvage everything or being able to "take" territory, which is kinda central to the game
Except for the POIs associated with quests and Trading Stations all others have Admin Cores that can be destroyed
Game gives ability to players to blow holes through walls. Then game introduces mechanic that nullifies above ability. Go figure.
