That one, at least, is explained in the lore and quests. The Stone Age act is a sham, they are hiding their true capability from the Zirax- and possibly making themselves "invisible" to the Legacy by not having outward signs of tech

I am not blindly defending the developers. I am one myself.
I just don't see the reason to get so offended by a game that I bought very cheap that I need to write a bad review just to be heard since we're already discussed how the Steam review system is flawed and unfair.
A rating system with more versatile options to rate would be better like five star ratings, for instance. But Steam reviews are like choosing either Excellent or Utter Crap.

Maybe even with categories, like "bug free, presentation, fun, replayability"

Please do not put words in my mouth, i did not say YOU werent a part of the community, what i said was that THOSE that want to make it better should be part of it. You putting that meaning into my opinion, tells me you are not really out to debate and have a fruitful discussion, but rather wish to make a flaming one sided discussion. So please do not take everything into the worst possible meaning, and read properly the comments.

Do I think this is a bad move? Yes.

Will I post a bad review because of that alone? No.

Will I necessarily promote the game as I have in the past? Honestly, I don't know. I have been burned by other teams before, and a certain amount of "show me" is going to have to be there. Sorry, it is what it is. I'm not accusing the devs of abandonment, just that v1.1 is going to need to show the commitment to continue and not only add content but fix issues- some of which have been around a long time.

I'm reserving judgement, basically. As long as serious development continues and the label is proven to mean nothing, I'll still ride that hype train all the way in. If not, well, so long, thanks for all the fish. There are other games in this vein, and the real competition isn't SE, DU, or Avorion

FWIW, my opinion is: In terms of software game sales, the term 'Release' has a certain expectation of feature stability and bug magnitude. Likewise, the descriptor 'Early Access' has certain expectations of the same. These two terms do not have the same expectations... it is why we have 2 terms in the first place. Look through the past forums posts of complaints or bug rants, and you will find a horde of 'Hey, it's Early Access'... which is a frustrating response because it is both dismissive of valid concerns... and absolutely correct on the substance.

'Release' is not the same thing and everyone here knows it. To some, the use of 'Release' for the current state of this game is like saying 2+2=5, and a surrender to standards that we as consumers should accept.

I dig that. And I do care about this issue. I care about alot of things to various degrees.

Personally, I am disappointed that they chose to relabel and I most certainly do not consider this as meeting the bare minimum of a 'Release' expectation.

That being said... I still play cuz I have fun. I still look forward to future development of the game I enjoy playing. I'm sure I will get tired of the game and move on. My bucks didn't pay for 'The Last Game I Will Ever Want To Play'. With me, there is no other discussion to be had. In the grand scheme of things, it isn't that big of a deal.

So, relabel all you want. My expectations are not changing... nor is my desire to play the game. The two have very little to do with each other.

And if someone wants to get on their ear about it... whatever. I'll poke fun atf ya if you waggle and wail about an indie game versioning choice, cuz it tickles my ass when you do.

You can still play Empyrion and relase tag has no influence on game experience.
The game is waiting for me.
    Later bitches :)

That'd be perfect. Some people already insert that kind of rating in the review text as a workaround.
The problem is that those who don't have time to read with more attention and are just quick scrolling through the page will see red thumbs-down.

But maybe I was too pessimistic. It seems that fewer games now have bad overall rating these days. And mostly the ones who deserve it. Maybe Steam is improving the algorithm for calculating average and relevance. Or maybe users are becoming more sensitive because of the quarantine?

Can you spot the contradiction in the picture?

I see no contradiction. If anything, those who play something for longer have a better chance of knowing if they like it or not.

I put at least 4000 hours into World of Warcraft between 2011 and 2018. I have since quit playing, as BfA was an unfun slog and the changes to the game doubly ensured I no longer found it fun. If I gave WoW a short review, it would be "Was fun for a long time but recent changes have removed all fun to be found. Strongly Not Recommended."

While those who put hundreds of hours into a game and then give it a negative review does appear to be a contradiction, I agree with the above...it just means they have more time to pass judgement.

But it does beg the question of those who really pay attention "Is this negative because the game is not fun/enjoyable? Or is it negative because something has changed that I personally dont like?"

In my worthless opinion, the version is just a number. I was having a blast with it Tuesday, and I am still enjoying it today. If the devs came out and said "OK players! We are all done! Have at it!" and then moved on to another project, then I would be a little miffed...but even then I would remember that my dollar/fun ration is already off the charts.

Life is balance. If you appreciated the game for so much time before it's gotten worse with updates, did you have more fun than grief? Why did you keep playing? I understand people get frustrated when they invest a lot of time in a game with a promise of getting better.

I come from a time when AAA games had their 1.0 boxed product released and then maybe a 1.1 or 1.2 patch and that was it. No community, no support, no promise of improvement. We sticked with the game for what it was.

Exactly. But many of us don't have time to read into a full review especially a thumbs-down one.

@Kassonnade you holy protector of devs and fanboys! Can you please explain to an average mortal if the devs have money... Why don't they hire animator(s) and other experts to do the job they can't if the core in is place? What are they waiting for?

@Germanicus: please back up Kassonnade with the super secret alpha elite test team review!

I'am curious. The Devs knew this release will be out in August. Why didnt they make it to goo booom! to mean something?

V1.1 then V1.2 then V1.3 then.... These are promises. Promises are good! If you can sell those promises you can be rich (right Chris Roberts? caugh caugh..)
What we were asking (many of the community members, including me) is a roadmap. It is 2020.08.06 today and there is nothing released about the survey. Why would someone call a development brainstorming session "survey 2020" when he/she plans to do something with it only in 2021?
Doesn't matter! For me a good gameplay experience starts with stability... This requirement isn't yet met. End of story.

The Core is implemented and working!

Yeah, but that WoW update obviously changed the gameplay. In Empyrion only the version counting has changed. The gameplay is pretty much the same as before.

And again word twisting. Your example here is a bad game mechanic and not lore. The other is an explanation why a seemingly primitive alien race knows about hacking.
