Co-op server loses connection with itself?

Hi everyone. I'm trying to host a co-op server based on an existing save file with the latest experimental branch, but I'm getting sporadic 'connection to playfield server lost' errors. Most of the time it's only for a moment or two, other times I have to exit and reconnect. My ping is 0ms because I'm hosting and playing on the same PC. How does a server 'lose connection' with itself, and how do I even begin to troubleshoot that?

If you're running the dedicated server, and playing the game on the same machine, you're going to need some pretty beefy hardware. What setup do you have?

Not running dedicated server, just co-op. It doesn't seem to have any performance problems other than the disconnects.

I'm also getting this exact same error while hosting a co-op game. Not showing any issues when it comes to my computer being overtaxed, but the popups do happen with some frequency.

I've seen the disconnects also in CoOp, but so far only as a hiccup when warping- and so far, we always manage to arrive

I was able to spend a few hours testing last night, and it does seem to stabilize after a while. It pretty much stopped disconnecting except when jumping to another sector and entering or leaving atmosphere. Then I usually get completely disconnected and have to log back in, only to find my ship on the other side of the sector or buried underground.

My system is an Intel Core2Quad 2.83GHz with 8GB RAM and Nvidia GTX750Ti. I'm wondering if it could be something to do with heavy read/write to the hard drive. I do have an SSD, just waiting to see if my newer motherboard is viable or not before installing. It's in the shop right now.

I'm surprised you're running the game, much less hosting...

To run only one client of the game, it is desirable from 10 to 16 GB of RAM (even I would say necessarily). And if you are going to run a dedicated server + game client on one computer, then I recommend 32 GB of RAM (with 16 GB of memory, you will have to close all applications and keep only the game client + server running, and still the system will constantly complain about the lack of memory).
Unfortunately, it is unrealistic for your processor and motherboard to get this amount of memory (even if you have a motherboard with 4 memory slots - the prices for 8Gb modules are already unreasonably high).

For coop (non-dedicated server) they recommended 16 gb ram, and that was prior to v12. So with 8gb you will have those disconnects. I went from 8 to 16 gb on my i7 laptop and it made a huge difference.

Another nail in the coffin... My motherboard will handle up to 16GB RAM, and it has 4 slots, but 4GB DDR2 sticks have been impossible to find for a reasonable price because it will only accept a very specific type. It would be more cost-effective to build something with newer-generation parts. Looks like it's time to start shopping again. Which sucks because that system is surprisingly capable otherwise.

It *might* be still OK as a dedicated server for a small group, especially if they don't scatter across the galaxy. Just don't try to host and play on it

It's not just a RAM thing. I'm running 32 GB of RAM (along with a AMD Ryzen 5 3600) with everything on an SSD and, as I noted, I also got these errors.

This might seem almost daft, but... is Power Management enabled on your Ethernet port(s)? If so, turn that garbage off! lol

If it's not in the properties of your adapter, it may be in Power Options. It's a very annoying and nearly completely useless setting for desktop PC's, and only slightly less useless for laptops.

Thanks for the replies. My girlfriend is able to host our server on her laptop via GeForce Now, so we're good to go for now. I've adjusted the power settings anyway and will report back with results whenever RL allows.

There are playfields, during the transition to which the internal lag of the dedicated server begins and here it really is not about memory (I had such a thing) - but this is a hard-to-reproduce error. I have not yet managed to unambiguously reproduce it and post it to the bugs section.

I had that one with a slow hard drive access rate. Fixed it by increasing the drives in the array.

I only use ssd drives. I think that the main reason for lags with disconnects is still a feature of the location (in my case it was Polaris Trading Station in space). Or some modification from Project Eden or something else is to blame. While I am watching such cases, trying to catch addiction.
