My friend and I play on a server with POI Regeneration disabled. A few days ago, he went and captured a POI (destroyed the core and placed his own.)

Now this POI was recaptured by Zirax. Since then, he's been unable to find the core and destroy it or place a new core.

Is there something we are missing or is it impossible to recapture a POI from the ennemy?

The core remains in the same place where Your friend put it, it just changed its owner, now it is owned by the NPC Zirax faction.
You need to destroy it and put your core back on.

Yep, they can do that. Would be nice if we could do it back, without having to destroy the cores. Would also allow us to do things like "sell" real estate (bases) and various constructs more easily. There's so much we could do with the right mechanics - hack enemy Cores to learn new tech to build, unlock vehicle blueprints, turn defensive stations against our enemies... just to name a few.

If you have searched and it does not have a core and still does not allow you to place one, an error has possibly happened that has already happened in some cases.
The POI is recovered by Zirax but they do not place a core.
It is a bug reported and classified as "not reproducible" despite being reported a couple of times.
