Hello everyone, I started a new SSP game the other day to play around with the latest patch. I've since settled on a temperate planet about 50LY from the starter and have explored a couple dozen planets. I noticed that other than the starter system I haven't seen ONE Legacy POI except for in Legacy-controlled systems. Did they change something to keep them from spawning now?
I found plenty of POIs in Legacy territory but I'm talking about ones like abandoned factories, mines, etc, that are usually everywhere.
Many of the game's default playfields have at least one "Alien" POI of the types you mention, but the are usually far down the list of POIs in the playfield yaml file, because they may "prevent other POIs from spawning" (from a note in one of the yaml). Since the POI at the top of the list has better chances to spawn than the next one, and second one better chances than third one and so forth, and since the game now features the other main factions and keep the aliens as the "exception" , the Alien POIs might simply not spawn in many playfields even if there is a chance because they are far down the list. Try looking in the default playfields folder (playfield_static.yaml) and use the keyword "alien" to see which planets have these POIs. Then I suggest looking for the bigger size planets in non-Legacy territory, since these have more space to spawn all POIs available in the file.
This is unfortunately a vanilla thing i came across as well. Just not enough life all over the vast galaxy. From glancing over the configs you find somewhere (i think galaxy config?) the spawn probabilities of faction poi spawns (as the abandoned variants are, just like zirax/polaris/kriel/etc.) and they are very low outside their own faction territory. Unfortunately you'd have to use either Project Eden or Reforged Eden or modify the respective config file/s yourself for an individual experience.
I did not say anything about modifying files : I suggested you check in the playfield_static.yaml of the game default templates/ playfields to see which ones had a possibility to spawn Alien/ Legacy POIs, and which ones don't have any Alien/Legacy POI. So for example if you explored "several medium and large" planets of the type that has no Legacy POI then this is just normal. For example "Barren Metal" type has no Alien POI, Moon Desert also, Moon Ice also has none, etc. The GalaxyConfig.ecf only defines "territories" and star types. The "star systems" definitions are in the solarsystemconfig.yaml, in the Default Multiplayer scenario, and it shows the probabilities for each planet type to spawn in sectors, and the POIs min/max count probabilities per planet types ( Lava, Arid, Temperate, Ocean, Alien, Snow, Barren).
Since I love finding Alien/Legacy POIs I'm very happy that Project Eden has plenty of them everywhere I go to. But in vanilla, I was able to find some but they're rare I guess.
I have also not been able to find any legacy buildings outside the starter planet. Which is a shame, we have a endless galaxy to explore but the only planet that has the pois i enjoy is the starter, so i stay on the starter planet and dont explore the galaxy.
Since we have an "endless galaxy to explore" and the probabilities to find Alien/ Legacy POIs is the smallest outside of Legacy territory, this means we have to search endlessly. If the galaxy has 15 000 to 20 000 stars (default galaxyconfig), I would be surprised if players explored more than 0.5%. That's a very low percentage to draw conclusions about the "whole galaxy". The author of the first message declared having visited "a couple dozen planets" so this is not even 0.5%.
