There is a problem in the PVP designs, to put a cockpit deeply inside ship, and pilot ship using only 3rd person view. It's looks like very strange - like degraded approach.
I think, it's bad approach. We have to fix it. I suggest to bring a new option (like mass/volume limits in recent update) which will permit to disable 3rd person view and force players to create designes with real cockpit/glasses. Of course, it should be possible to leave it disabled - it will be suitable for some server's admins and/or in single player.
To help parking/docking, I suggest to add new type of device - external camera. It should has very limited amount of hitpoints, and amount of installed cameras should be limited too (like turrets).

The problem with such a "restriction" is that there are people out there who can't play only in 1stP view so that use 3rdP Mode only.
A general disabling might be done for PvP Server wise (I do not know if that is actual possible) but its worth a try.
A single Person can always disable the V-key in the Key mapping area of the Game settings.

For your other suggestions...we will see what the Devs have still in mind for us;)

Yeah. I suggested it as option. There is an option to enable/disable mass/volume limits. Here I suggest same, new optional parameter to get better balance.

It's up to server owners to fix their game to suit their needs. They can make cockpits very solid so players can use them, instead of being so fragile. Problem is not the 3rd person view, it's very practical. Problem is weapon balance, and if PvP players are happy flying in death cubes then let them be happy.

    They're not happy. It's https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tragedy_of_the_commons this problem
They just don't have a choice.

That's not true : they always have a choice, and server owners can enforce whatever rule they want.

I logged in random servers at some point, and many times the starter areas was total random BS. Being killed right after leaving the escape pod is not fun, and no wonder so many servers are completely empty most of the time. Eleon has provided more than enough tools to make the game fun for everyone, at some point players should stop blaming the developers and look at what they could do themselves right now.

Let me put in here two examples:
I played several months on a private MP-Server. The Starter Area was Neutral Ground/Admin a large Base with a Flight Deck and several Vessels to jump to the PVP Planets. Another Version was choosing the Faction you wanted to attend and dropping in Escape Pods there - with Friends only...just a 'few' locals;).
I (still) play SWTOR MMO - Starter Planets are OFF LIMITS and can't be invaded by each other side on PvP, PvE or RP Servers.
DLC's later on made it possible but in this you play in "parallel Universe" and not the actual Starter Planet.

What do you mean? Which tools? I never seen anything about limiting 3rd person view and/or external cameras with small amount of hitpoints (to disable 3rd person view after receive some combat damage)

It's not a problem, it's a feature and an option. There is nothing to "fix".

It's actually not a problem per se. As an offline and co-op player, I do the same with my ships as well. It is not a PvP thing, it's natural warship design.

All my warships have a bridge for navigation and an internal CIC for combat. My battlestars don't even have bridges at all, it's just how warships are built (space or not) and I would recommend it to anyone. Piloting a ship from the bridge during combat is a massive weakness, pretty much a giant "shoot here" sign. Why bother getting to the core or generators when you can simply knock out the bridge and render the ship uncontrollable?

A first person only server/game is not a bad idea though. It was fun in From the Depths but, in FtD you can add cameras and link them to LCD screens for a proper CIC setup. In Empyrion CIC commanders will have to guess their position and bearing.

Ah, ok. Thanks for shared this. I'll enable it in my own server. You're right. But to use it, cameras (with camera limit) can be important
