Seems like I've always had weather effects under ground, as the ground itself is not air tight. I usually build a small 'bunker' as part of my underground structure that is airtight, so that I can retreat into it should there be radiated fog or some such. I assume this is by design.
Interesting. The only time I've ever had weather effects under ground is if I'm falling. I.e. I jetpack jump and drop to the ground I'll see weather coming through the rock above me as I fall. Same happens to a degree if I'm in a Base / CV as well, but just when falling. I build (or rather, excavate) underground bases a lot, so for it to be snowing consistently while I'm underground was an unusual event for me. Bar the jump/fall thing of course. I'm just playing a normal SP game with the Reforged Galaxy scenario enabled. Trying to imagine the snow as water seeping through the rock...wrong graphics - they're definitely snow flakes - but if I squint I can believe it lol. Scoob.
I also watched the rain falling through the ceiling of my ship while I was in the cabin. The room was sealed and the shield was active. =)
My ships appear to be mostly fine, though I've not built a CV in my fresh start yet. However, I did have another 1.4 game in progress where CV's were ok. It is weird looking out from my underground base into a cavern I'm currently excavating and it's snowing... lol. Scoob.
Looking for confirmation if something I'm experiencing in 1.4.1 (started with 1.4) is a "feature" or a "bug". When I exit an SV or HV currently (don't have a CV yet) the vehicle immediately descends. This didn't used to be the case as I commonly used my vessels as platforms for combat or mining in the early game. Possibly related to the below? - Vehicle controller : Player exiting vehicle will now reset the pilot mode to the center (if active) and stop the movement and the rotation of the vehicle
Looks unusual to me, I know some people have complained that vehicles fail to drop when they power off, but you might be suffering a different kind of bug, not had it happen to me.
I was standing on my hovering SV a couple of hours ago (v1.4.1) and it remained hovering. I did not test getting off the vessel to see if it fell. This is in a Reforged Galaxy scenario game, not vanilla. Scoob.
Whether or not ships begin.descending when you get out of the pilot seat is frustratingly inconsistent, and most of the time I bloody wish they'd stay still. More often than not, I want to do something like make them hover a bit. Maybe I want to work on the underside, maybe I want to use them to get on top of a POI. Most of the time I get out and they start dropping slowly. Really frustrating.
I've been doing some more testing and my HV does this 100% of the time. My SV is spotty, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. Yesterday I was trying to shoot a spider from the wing but I couldn't because it dropped every time I tried. Does this mean you can move around in CVs when they're in motion now
Ha Ha, I hope not. You should do a youtube of the shooting spiders bit. But probably a good idea to go into the bugs forum here and see if someone else has the same issue or just make a new issue.
By "dropping" do you mean it drops in absolute vertical direction or it also drifts sideways/ back/ front ? How is ground below you when this happens ?
It drops straight down. No matter what is below the vessel. Whether it's a BA or just terrain. No drifting/flying off although I've experienced that twice as well.
Ho... I was thinking more in terms of "slope" than "base/ terrain". I tried a few things lately, like getting out of a SV while flying above ground. I did not yet experience the "drop" event, but I did not try a hundred times either. But what I found at least is the distance from ground that switches the "spawn player at X position" behavior. When exiting the ship at more than +/- 12 or 13 meters from ground (must be a plant or something below blurring the results here) the player spawns besides the ship, and lower than this the player spawns on the ground below (ship has no floor/ wings), which can feel strange when it's a tiny ship because it will stay there 30 feet above...
Annoying forum keeps everything we write in a cache and shows it even if we delete it and write something else, isn't it ? Unless we post the damn message... Here you go, forum. Now stop it !
Maybe your brain is used to filtering out floaters? 8^) This is my view inside a CV during a light snowfall on "BEST" resolution. It appears to matter where I stand (the garden snows, the reactor area not, here in the bay there are microclimates as shown here) (can't upload an MP4 ... rename type to ".mp4" after download) As far as the SP vs MP it's always looked like an SP game is using a 127.0.0.1 flavor of what you connect to for an MP ... ie you get a collision when you try to run an SP game if a COOP is running. I'll try this in an SP to see if it repos. I've gotten so used to seeing "weather" underground & indoors or getting hit by acid rain when I'm under an overhang that I just assumed it was an "it's always been like this" sort of thing. I've seen lots of folks who say "but did you file a bug report" and I get that. At some point it gets hard to motivate yourself to file bug reports, especially when there isn't an easy-to-search/easy-to-find consolidated list of known issues. Then again maybe there is now ... like I said, motivation to go the extra mile plays out like extinction of a conditioned response- no Skinner cage or cheese in this maze.
My experience has been that in SP I could more reliably get out of a running and stationary ship and have it stay in place. In MP it would drop straight down, unless it "hit" something like a tree or building, 70 to 90 % of the time. I learned to get out looking down so I could get back in as soon as it started dropping. I would repeat this until I got the time it stayed put. I have not played an SP game in 1.3 or 1.4. so I am unable to say if it happens there now but it is happening in MP.
Even in Minecraft the snow/ rain gets through blocks, so at least that's one case where we won't see " yeah, but in Minecraft they can ... ". And if Minecraft did not solve it, well...
From a historical perspective, I started in A8.3 in SP and did not experience this. My first experience with this was my first MP and I think it was still A8.?. It has been bug reported and fixed and returned with different degrees of severity since that time. I can not remember a time it did not happen at least a little in MP. The dropping upon exit in SP has been variable with some builds not doing it and others just as bad as the worst MP.
Ok I'm playing by myself but technically it's multiplayer because I'm on my own dedicated server. This is a first for me so maybe this is why I haven't experienced this issue prior. Thanks for pointing me in this direction. I can probably test this by running a SP game and spawning the same HV to see if I get identical results.
Ships in multiplayer often don't hover in place when you leave the cockpit. Seems to depend on how close to the ground you are. And yes it's really annoying.
