For my next project I decided to go for creating a whole new "alien" race, so to accompany my Heavy Cruiser & Carrier I'm going to make several themed and same colored cap ships, which you can just slap alien core in creative and get tad bit more challenge from NPC's as well (not sure if I have to swap all cap ship turrets into ion cannons to get them into firing under alien cores, but who knows). However first what this "new" fleet needs is something heavier and more powerful than my Mini-Bomber-Advanced So here's a "heavy" fighter /bomber on that attempt. Name comes from it's flying V-Shape and it continues the yellow /grey color and shape theme. This turned out to be pretty stable in flight and I actually included it right in my survival tool-kit as well to do planetary drone cleanups (with variant that has 4 railguns instead of plasma, if you want blueprint on that just ask, but it's really just same ship with different weapons) so it's again quite cheap to manufacture, can take some hits and has decent dmg output. So without further ado: Blueprint link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=646260435 V-Fighter: Double plasma looks quite good: My survival variant (just swapped plasma into railguns and there's armor slap on top of them):
This is a tiny concept ship which I used for trying to figure out how to dock into cap ships from underneath. Turns out you can't. No matter what side of the ship you use for docking you have to use spacebar to unlock the docking mechanism so you can't dock small vessel from top of the ship on to the cap ship. So here's a funny little snob-fighter for your cap ships and as an added bonus it bears a tiny resemblance to goose (to the spruce goose Blueprint link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=646875127
Actually docking onto the bottom of a CV can be done. My SVs in my Survival Game Dock onto the bottom of my Tyrax Starter CV all the time. The trick is don't try to do it with the top of your SV. My SV has its Landing Pads on the bottom. What I do is navigate my SV to the CV's bottom area, then spin it around to face (from the point of view of my CV) upside down then dock my SV upside down onto the CV's bottom. Viva la 3D Space! Edit: What happens if Landing Gear on the top of a SV is Docked onto something then ya try Undocking with 'C' instead of 'Spacebar'?
I'm aware that you can dock into CV by parking your ship on any wall you want, but it would've made rather neat entrypoint if you could've just dropped into your SV from the floor and dock it by driving it underneath into small hatch and then just burn downwards to get it locking into that. But even though you can place docking pads or even landing gear on top of the SV you cannot dock, since currently it takes "spacebar" as an "undock" command regardless of the direction. So according to my tests so far you cannot undock with any other button regardless where the ship's landing gear is and what axel you used to get it locked down For example with the Snob-fighter I made one post upwards you can dock into any wall of CV, even thrusters and doors but if you dock it directly underneath one hull block you will still have to undock it with space, hence pushing against the hull block above. Using any side thruster doesn't do anything, except burns fuel. Hence answer to your question is you get nice flames and burn some fuel but that it's Edit: Found a example picture This is USS Akron airship launching "parasite" fighter from the bottom of the ship, tried to go into this direction but alas we cannot currently use landing gear on top of the SV
I understood what ya said, I was just lettin ya know there was a workaround for now. Maybe in the future Docking will get a (hopefully not stupid) Hotkey in the future.
Would be very easy to solve this by simply making docking bound into "keeping ship stable and pushing towards larger ship on any axle for x period of time". This would allow you to dock and undock in any direction instead of one simple(ton) hotkey
Here's another tiny vehicle I made to accompany the whaling CV I made the other day. I got the inspiration from the Zodiac rubber boats so it's shaped like one and designed to act like one (aside from railguns, since after you get away from starter vehicles, there's really no point in making un-armed small vessel Blueprint link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=648105690

You should totally build cap ship version of this as well, so it could enter the ludicrous speed! ( with warp engine)
Yeah im thinking about it. It will be huge. I'm also thinking about making a mega-maid CV but that will take hours and days and longer probably. I JUST got this game yesterday so I am still pretty new to ship building.
I've been experimenting on creating a proper stealth fighter this weekend (also there's something slightly larger coming when I get my lazy bones around it and finish combat tests so I'm going to publish a few most successful designs. These haven't been tested on real PVP, just on small game of tag on P2P-co-op so if someone actually uses one in combat vs another players, feel free to comment how it did go in either here or steam. The first up is small stealth fighter armed with 4 railguns and one plasma, at least vs drones 4 railguns is currently so much of an overkill that I don't really know what you could use the centerline gun slot for. Hence I just stuck plasma in there, since it has nice torpedoy feeling so if you like to roleplay it's nice. Also this features all the useful stuff you need for airless planets or for exploration SV in general and as for almost all of my ships it's really easy on resources and time needed. Here's some pics: Top profile Front Q pic Blueprint link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=649419635
And here's the second one and pay no attention to the letters in behind the names, it's not like I'd mark the test versions of the same concept with same name and just different letter (or Roman number if you've seen my vessels before)! Not at all! You're totally wrong! So for this version I went on for more bomber-ey feeling (hence the plasma instead of railguns as main weapon) and it's slightly larger, even though almost number one attribute for making things hard to see is to make them as small as possible. Second I'd imply to be making hull do such angles that it will deceive people to aim in wrong part of the ship resulting in missed shots, and third quality would be ability to deliver crippling if not killing alpha strike if you manage to catch something un-aware! So here's 6 plasma guns and one rail, which should already be whopping overkill and in fact you can swap plasma into railguns if you intend to use this in dogfights instead of killing or crippling cap ships. This is a smallish SV dropship intended for PvP play and faction warfare. It contains four seats plus a cockpit; it also utilises 2 rocket launchers and 2 railguns. I present.... THE LAZY TORTOISE!!! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=649697657&searchtext= Front profile This is why its called the Tortoise! Rear exit Let me know your thoughts!
With the Rail Guns spread that far apart you're gonna have a awful hard time concentrating your fire on Targets that are closer to ya & ya are gonna have some trouble hitting stuff far from ya...
I see what you mean, but the railguns are meant for taking out (space)drones. Drones are the only threat in Peer2Peer... Besides, the reason I posted it was to get feedback. Thanks!
Another thing I've found while building a few fighters - guns on the side or guns protected by blocks gives one issue, the possibility to hit yourself while strafing (moving forward and to the side) while shooting. this issue is biggest in space (since we can fly faster) and especially when fighting other players (I've stopped playing pve after I joined a pvp server) I have started to make it so at least the mouthpiece of the kuns clears the entire, or at least most, of the ship. it's a pain, and i think it's a trajectory issue
This seems to be worst with rockets where you can seriously make damage to your own ship if you have multiple launchers in same spot. On plasma weapons the worst issue seems to be that if one of them gets blasted out they will continue shooting on random directions from the spot they got destroyed and even still will eat ammo. Relogging helps to fix that issue, but on rockets, only thing that helps is flying straight when launching. This is one of the reasons I'm almost 100% exclusively using railguns, they seem to have least amount of issues and bullets are fast enough to be hard to dodge and able to leave the gun before exploding, even while strafing...
