It seems like the bag gets emptied (which is OK) but your body dies again before it has time to receive the loot and the new killed body doesn't drop a bag. So, the loot isn't in the old bag anymore and there is no new bag.
"and the new killed body doesn't drop a bag." Are you sure? If you get killed a 2nd or 3rd time etc., the game creates an empty bag each time for your 2nd, 3rd death etc, and the old one should still be full and in place for maximum 20 minutes, then it despawns. Because you play on a server it's possible that another player has picked-up your full bag, too bad for you and that's likely what happened here.
It's actually a very common bug in MP. If you die at nearly the exact same time you pick up your old backpack everything gets lost forever. There is no new drop container because the game thinks you died with nothing on you, yet your old backpack is gone because you picked it up. It's an issue with the game not having time to recognize that the items actually went into your inventory. This has only gotten worse since they added in the database. It seems like the database is causing slowdowns in info being recognized by the game. I don't know how they are going to solve this (or if they even can), but it's definitely a bug.
Thank you for this info, I ignored all this because not playing in MP or on a server yet, I hope they quickly get such a malfunction removed. Until they fix it, the only workaround seems then to be to deactivate the loss of your backpack in the game options, this is possible in SP, hopefully also in MP?
