I'm driving my hover craft across the landscape and I die. Nothing around except hills and trees and I'm dead. Impact damage it says?? Not gonna lie I think it stinks. And if you want it to be a thing, make it something I can turn off at the beginning of the game. This is ridiculous, coming down from a small hill and I break a leg??? Please don't make this a thing.

Yeah this is happening to me as well broken leg while in cockpit and just like mob is not loaded and then i stop and infected or something and have to heal no mob there but random dermal parasite or 50% of hp just gone and no damage to me one time another time cockpit just takes damage like i got hit with something and nothing around Very Odd
Yeah I (and others) wrote up a bug report about this issue... if you notice yourself taking random damage while flying, level off with O, exit your cockpit to stop damage before it kills you.
I have had this and random radiation damage while flying my CV or just standing in one place. My suit and boosters should protect me to 13R and there is nothing in the environment that is producing that. I seem to have a constant "Body Radiation" of 4.4 in my Heavy armor. I have never noticed this setting before. Not sure if it is new. Radiation seems to occur simultaneously with two other things, but I don't know the new illness icons. A skull and crossbones in a bottle and a dripping hand. I have a screenshot if anyone is interested.
This has not saved me, I continue to take damage until I a) die or b) log out of the game and come back in. I've learned to stay away from my crashed escape pod, it always happens if I get near it.
A temporary fix I think is to stand off and the back on the cockpit. I found this accidentally when trying to start my recording software to make a video with the issue. I stopped my HV and accidentally got off the cockpit right before I Alt+TAB to start the recorder. When I sit back to it there was no problem. Also I think it happened to me while piloting a CV.
Nothing helps random instant death while flying an SV. Just a 3 second pop up noticed saying you died from being crushed.
As Kassonnade pointed out with that bug report link, Eleon has now updated that threads subject line with "Fixed in next update"
