When making a save game there is no way to NAME the save. It is just a quick save. However, when exiting the game and starting it back up a new save is automatically made. Also, if you die and respawn a new save is made, but only about 5 are made. Eventually your manual save is overwritten regardless if you wish to keep it exactly when and where it was made. This can cause you to lose your progress if something happens to your game. We need a standard save game feature where games we name (such as Backup or 'Before going in the bad place') are never deleted or overwritten unless specifically requested by the player. As it stands now, after playing for a bit there is no possible way to go back to an older save game as they will always be overwritten.
The player can name the save when starting the default Single player game or a scenario. Also can rename the file on Resume game. It is not obvious but it is there, so just click the name fields to change them accordingly. Also the player can copy the save at the resume menu or in game, at any time by clicking on the disk icon after hitting escape (does not pause the game thought) on the top left.Do this i.e. before approaching a dangerous POI to make a copy of your position where you are and then approach it and enter the fight in the POI. You can user the disk icon as often as you like to save a progress. If i.e you die you do not continue the game from the screen that follows. Instead you exit the save and use resume where you can find the previously saved positions. Delete the save where you died resume the old position/save game.
I have a shortcut to ..\\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Empyrion - Galactic Survival\Saves\Games on my desktop, just to be sure what I am doing. Very VERY useful in Singleplayer!
I believe he is more referring to the issue that we cannot do a SAVE AS - Game Save as so many other games can.
This is actually a very good point. There is a backup save game option, but it doesn't let you rename it when you save it. You have to go back and rename it either from the resume game screen or in file explorer. So this would be a good suggestion. However the save system itself is fine, it works just like many other similar games. But it won't work like Skyrim or something.
Well, at least know we all know the devs are aware of it. Nothing like dying in space and losing your CV and having your game overwritten. The devs Probably have known about this request for a very long time, this is something we’ve always just had to live with I’m afraid.
Some games have a, pretty annoying, function called Auto-Save, which pops up when least expected or in a really shitty moment, i.e., a fight. As we do not have such a function everyone is responsible for Saves himself. Best is to save before Jumping into a new sector/Star System or before entering/approaching a POI. Such saves have a Time Stamp - make a copy(on click) and continue Playing. Its more a matter of Discipline than actually a missing function. Anyway... I would like to see a Save-As-Function added for In-Game-Swift Save, for above mentioned types of Saves.
This is not a feature request. This is a bug. When you manually set your game name to say Backup. Then later either die, manually hit the quick save icon or anything, it automatically overwrites the "Backup" save without prompting or asking if that is ok. Making a named save for future use whenever you wish and having it overwritten without asking the user is a bug imho. That completely invalidates the entire idea behind SAVING THE GAME.
You have a wrong perception of how save works in Empyrion. The backup is taken by hitting the save icon before you die. If you die you should not continue the game from there. Exit the game and load the backup. It is in the list and has similar naming scheme with what you used when you started the game days ago and a timestamp to distinguish it by when you created it(the backup). Pay attention to time stamps.
I understand what you are saying. What I am saying is that the entire functionality of their save game system is just wrong and broken and needs to be fixed. I created the bug report to well..report that. The system is broken. I fully understand what it is doing. I have been playing games for 40 years as a gamer. There is not a single solitary game title that does anything remotely like what Empyrion is doing which in my opinion means it is broken and needs to brought to the developer's attention so they do not alienate their player base of potential new players. Game saves come in 3 basic flavors. Manual saves which are point in time saves accessible at any time by the player. They can be overwritten on purpose again by the player. Quick saves which function exactly as manual saves but have a default name that is always overwritten when the quick save function is used. Then you have auto saves which function in the background and have their own unique file name exclusive to autosaves. The only control the player has over this is if the interface provides a method to increase or decrease the frequency of when those autosaves are initiated (or turned off completely). If an autosave is manually renamed by the player, then it then falls out of the purview of the autosave system. Empyrion right now has a bastardized mix of a quick save and autosave system which the player is unable to bypass even by renaming a file.. The game is like the honey badger. It don't give a blank what you do. It is overwriting files and to heck with what the player wants. I believe that is deserving of bug report as the function is not indicative of what any computer gamer with any common sense and 2 brain cells to rub together would expect from even an early access title with a save game system.
I have no problem at all with the save system such as it is. I see no need to change anything except perhaps a shortcut for creating a backup/quick save. This is not a game made for single player only. It is not DOOM and the likes. It has MP in its DNA. I do not play the MP part of it for personal reasons but I accept reality and enjoy the game.
not played those first 2, but NMS is not the same. You cannot manually save separate files for the same playthrough in different file locations. You have 1 save per game. which makes it a pseudo hardcore permadeath game. That is different (and vastly worse for a title like Empyrion), so please do not say it is.
You've only played 1 of the other 3 popular games which are most like Empyrion in terms of game genre. No Man's Sky uses a similar system, just without the official ability to make a backup copy of your save game so it's actually technically "worse" than Empyrion's save system. This save system is fairly standard for the type of game Empyrion is. Just because you haven't played them or you think NMS is somehow hardcore (it really, really isn't).
