Hello guys! I'm playing EGS like I ever wanted: now the story is fixed and fine and the game was ready to be played since quite some time. I dared to propose to all of you a poll just to know if someone agrees with me. The question I ask may appear senseless to people playing without volumes check active... after all what's the matter if in a single travel you can salvage a whole CV without space limit (apart from the square numbers of your cargo box but that's not a real limit come on )? But for people like me liking some sort of 'realism' and enabling volumes the question may imply something. So, I finished the Ilmarinen (which now is really a funny and balanced experience I must say) then I went back to my base prepared some CV cockpit some engines and I returned to the derelict ship (of course my core was already installed there ): imagine my surprise when the game told me this is not a ship but a base. My intentions were clear: piloting the Ilmarinen all the way to my base to dismantle it safely without spending tons of precious pentaxid to warp many times but that can't be done and as of now the ship must be salvaged in space (because it's a base and it's not meant to be moved). But, considering (I guess ) the vast majority of people will salvage Ilmarinen for good, can we just configure the ship as CV so we people of the volumes will have an easier life in tearing it apart to build another thing? People playing without volumes won't even see the change but for us, volumes players life would change a lot. Just asking of course and sorry for proposing a poll: I thought it may be the best way to let devs know... even if you don't agree with me of course Kind regards.
Nooooooooooo you made me cry so I suppose I must change the poll if it is useless... can I do that? But wait: not even placing there a cockpit and some engines???
That would only be true is it was configured as a patrol vessel (or one of the other enemy piloted vessels). If it was just configured as a regular CV POI, and not an enemy piloted one, then it COULD be piloted by a player once they replace the core. Just like how the old wrecked CV in starter orbit could be fixed up and piloted by players. (It's no longer in starter orbit anymore though).
There is already the Ilmarinen as CV, it's in your content folder ready to spawn like every other ship or POI which is included in the game. Suffice to transfer the file in your regular blueprint folder (*). And it must not be for you exclusively, you can set the core to be 'public'. (*) It's the CV_PolarisSuperfreighter.epb file. Currently the Ilmarinen is a base technically spoken, one that you can only take over by doing the story mission. If it would be a ship it would have the same restrictions like every other invaded ship: you have 5 minutes to loot it after which it despawns, with big ships this is almost undoable and not worth the initial effort to disable it first, not very interesting, that's why this feature would have to be disabled (I think you can't do it, but you can make the timer to be longer before despawn.) Plus, as said above, with invaded ships you cannot fly them away, for that you would need to blueprint and respawn them - and it would not be the same ship. For making the Ilmarinen present as a patrolling ship, just substitute another patrol ship with it in the game ecf file, this should be possible. So your questions are not very significant for a game changer because you have got already what you want in any case.
I’m pretty sure the ship already spawns as a patrol vessel as mentioned above at least in single player I have come across them mainly in Polaris and now brotherhood territory. If you want a slightly smaller version I did the convertion of the ilmarinen to the brotherhood which is now in vanilla game it’s 2 cargo bays shorter and redone for the brotherhood not on pc right now but think it’s called bof benevolence will confirm exact file name when I’m on pc tomorrow
The described problems with CVs in the story are annoying and should be adjusted IMHO. That story relevant POIs must react differently is clear, but I find the use, rebuild, adapt found POIs one of the most important points of EGS. My Exodus is now no longer in the minefield, at least I have no longer seen it and I find that very sad. This I have converted to my favorite ships and must now spawn them. Here should be a solution for found. How about a block/device/core which can convert a base into a CV. At the moment a core has only one form, with right click you could choose an alternative form: "Base to CV core". To solve the problem of the wrong blocks for this mode: on the one hand mark them with a color, on the other hand list them under devices in the group "Wrong Object/Devices" with the possibility to set a marker, so that you can find and change them better.
There is already a command you can use to convert a structure to any other structure type. I couldn't tell you what the command is, because documentation sucks big time, but there is a command for it. I bet @ravien_ff could tell you the command
Ok, I only know the method about starter block and exchange the files. Only there is the problem, at least I had that with the Ilmarinen, that the color table differs. Secondly, the use of the console should not be necessary for the gameplay, that feels like cheating.
In creative with the N menu you can copy-paste entire entity parts and place a new core in them, you need to start with a starter block, a core, then paste entity parts on it from existing structures or new ones that you build yourself.
Thanks, yes, because I also know, but is more complicated and has the same problem with the color table. But as you rightly say, in creative. But what I and probably the others here want is a way as part of the game not a cheat way.
console command prefabinfo 'Name of Blueprint' -convert CV (CV/BA) it is OPV-FarrBenevolence as i said would double check. i understand what your saying and i no its not the same as using the one from the mission but as it stands you cant even capture one and use any ship so for now it seems like sorting your own out in creative or search ilmarinen on the workshop as the ship is on there already as a CV and a reclaimed base
Wow guys thank you very much for everything you've said: I honestly admit that I thought it would've been something easy to do not a tricky thing Anyway now I know that using the console in creative mode it's possible and that thanks to all of you. I'm playing anyway in survival and... for the type of game EGS is it seemed to me nothing exceptional to move some CV from one location to another but if that's not the case well we'll find another way. I completely agree with Sandy Gaia: to me using console in a regular survival mode seems definitely cheating so I'd like to avoid that. But, by reading your messages, another solution came to my mind: hope this time it'll be something easier. So, the target is to have the Ilmarinen near to your base after you've finished it of course. Now why not adding a 2ndary quest - so a faction quest in EGS - with the Polaris saying: I'll do something for that faction and that faction will tow the ship near my base (it would be wonderful to even see it in real time in the game). That would be a nice quest ...and that would solve the technical issue, the console usage, it will not ruin the no volumes players and it'll be a game changer for us volumes players (especially to build a new CV). Would that be something easier? Basically I've just reversed the problem: instead of doing us something, we'll let devs do everything Do you like that?
Is it cheating though? First of all, if it's SP then it's up to the individual player to decide that. Secondly though, using a console command to convert a base POI into a CV doesn't gain you any extra resources. It's still exactly the same there. The only thing you changed is the structure type. So if nothing was really gained, is it really a "cheat"? As I said earlier, that's up to the individual player in SP. It wouldn't work in MP unless you were an admin, so no issues there anyways. P.S. I don't expect answers to those questions because there are no right or wrong answers. Like I said, it's up to the individual to decide that for themselves.
It would be nice to see more activity in space, ships transporting goods, more activity on the dock. But that will take a long time until there is time. Look at all the proposals here, they have to be careful not to get lost. The best thing they can do is to remove as many annoying bugs as possible and create more possibilities for the community. Then the community will create a lot of the content this game needs.
Why not both? It IS actually doable. While the "Ilmarinen" Derelict is a special ship though, it uses an Admin core, not a Alien core., so it is not able to be destroyed. I know this thread is old, but here is 2 links for the blueprint download. of both the Base version (the original) and the CV version. The CV Version does actually fly somewhat, there are a few Thrusters on it here and there, but most are fake. Someone could spawn it in creative if they felt like it, and replace those fake engines with real ones, proobably the fake elevators with real ones, etc. Then is would be about as authentic as you can get. If you DO go and modify it though, Be careful of the 100 mob-spawners, and the floors that go "boom" when you walk past them (as I said, it's the exact duplicate of what's in the game) Base Version (in-game version): https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2815011772 CV Version (Game version, but turned to CV) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2815011674 Enjoy
The Ilmarinen CV already exists in your vehicle folder (in-game within the list of red blueprints if you chose the computer icon in the blueprint menu). Too big for me when playing single player, same for the Titan CV and some others, but surely nice to spawn and visit. Though, I imagine that these really large ships could be a FPS breaker on low performance computers.
