Hello! I've been working through the tutorial and finally made it into space. I shot the drone and then went into the transport ship Severance. I've found the NPCs and had the little conversations, but the inside of the ship seems to be extremely cold, and I am freezing to death. I think something is wrong because the crew are humans and they are wearing uniforms, not protective clothing. I am in a suit with an actual temperature booster in it. I'm including two screen shots.
I have no idea what to do. I died once, and restarted at previous location, found myself floating in space near the ship and got back into the ship. I seemed to be ok when I was out in space, and then once I was in the crew section of the ship I started freezing again. I exited the game and resumed a couple of times, but nothing changes. Advice?
Another problem I'm having in the ship (which seems separate but who knows) is that I can't walk around. I stuck in place, but if I press J and start using the jetpack I can move around in the ship that way.
    Thanks for suggestions!

My fellow human NPC here doesn't seem to mind -121C!

Suit has a temp booster, but I suppose -121 is too cold for it. Seems like a ship full of humans shouldn't be that cold.

If you are messing about in space then it's best to have an EVA Boost in your suit. That helps with the cold temperatures.
You can either make one or buy one from a trader.
The other humans in the ship are just placeholder NPC's and the environment doesn't affect them.

That was very helpful! I had an EVA boost but never thought of using it because I wasn't doing EVA, being inside a ship. Once I equipped it, the cold problem stopped.
The tutorial itself should be telling me things like this. It is counter-intuitive that you'd need EVA gear inside a ship with human-looking NPCs in shirtsleeves. In the tutorial the should either:
    1. Make the temperature mild inside the ship
    2. Make the NPCs wear protective suits so the player can get a clue that this is needed
    3. Warn the player that EVA protection is needed even inside ships.

The guidance from the tutorial is patchy. I'd have never made it this far without these forums! Thanks again!

Are the lights on on the ship? I get the impression the ship is unpowered.

  5. That's what I was thinking too.

Radiation is at 0 where they are standing, yet it's at 3.0 outside.

That tells me that the ship is likely sealed but the power is off, hence why it's so cold.
If there was a leak there would be radiation in the ship too.

The devs may need a copy of the save game to figure out why the power is off. Pretty sure it's supposed to be on.

    See above.
You may need to file an actual bug report and include a copy of your game save with your character left standing in the same spot as your screenshots.

That's interesting! I'll try to restore back to that point and open the ship's control panel and see about power. As for the save files, I'm actually not sure where they are located. I suppose that's documented somewhere?

I'm going to have to backtrack a few steps anyway because I'm told now to fly toward a marker and then warp, but there is no orange marker I can find. Similar things have happened to me at earlier stages of the tutorial and I've found that sometimes if you deviate from the script even a little bit, it loses these things. If I go back to an earlier save and proceed very smoothly through the steps, it will work. This is, of course, the opposite of what is needed in a tutorial, where the player should be expected to be fumbling around trying to figure things out and unlikely to do things exactly right the first time.;-)

Thanks again for these helpful responses! (and quick too!)

Iirc i read somewhere the tutorial is something that might be dropped sooner or later as most of its functionality is in the normal game.

@Iffy Obelus ... in the context of the game each vessel is it's own thing when it comes to heat & O2 and the NPC models don't behave or react in the way you might expect. This results in situations that break immersion but after you've played for awhile you normally don't notice because you never take off the suit or raise the visor; it gets pretty wiffy inside that suit.

As @krazzykid2006 mentions it looks like the power is off and if you check your status box in the lower left corner there also is no O2 around you. This sort of thing actually extends to an SV that's inside a fully powered CV with the vents on- take your helmet off inside the hangar bay of a powered CV and look into an unpowered SV through an open door and you're fine but if you step inside the unpowered SV you can suffocate or freeze to death looking through an open door with air/warmth on the other side of the threshold.

Likewise you can find people wandering around (or dancing) on the exterior of a base in space or down on a planet with an unbreathable atmosphere during an acid rainstorm because the NPCs don't need air and take no damage from the environment.

@imlarry425 Thank you for this clarification. It really helps to know what to expect in a game this complicated. If I continue playing, I'll follow this approach of equipping the suit for a bad environment and wearing it all the time regardless of seemingly protective structures.
It does seem like that makes it pointless to pressurize a base or anything like that.

@Alhira_K mentioned that they may remove the tutorial. If that is their plan, they should do it now. I'm a little dismayed with myself that I spent over 30 hours, but I kept thinking I was almost out of the woods. They should put something there in that starting screen that actually points a brand new player in the right direction. Even a link to a youtube video from a community member would be better than a tutorial with so many bugs. Or they could put a pointer to this forum. Or to a network of volunteer guides. If there is a way to actually play the game and have fun, people need to be guided to it when they install the game. The tutorial has kind of worn me down.

The problem with using an EVA is that it takes quite a bit off the armour off the suit.

I watched Spanj play this game for a long time before I bought it.

@Iffy Obelus ... my wife and I have always enjoyed watching the play-throughs done by @spanj (and others) over on youtube. After almost every major release he does a vid that covers new features and frequently runs full campaigns. Years (!) of well produced content that give you the warts 'n all. You'll hear him say "Eleon, please fix" as he hits the sort of glitches you're alluding to and sells a matching t-shirt as merch. 8^)

Don't worry about being an apologist for the stuff that frustrates others nor a whiner about the things that never bubble up to "fixed in this release" list that frustrate you- we all are on the spectrum and have wasted vast quantities of time on this game .. wouldn't keep coming back if it wasn't fundamentally fun.

(Hehe- @Spoon beat me to it!)

I will say this. A game that has such a friendly and helpful community must have something going for it. I'll try a bit longer :)

Stop eating all those alien beans, and you won't have that problem!

We do have a good, helpful and friendly community, for the most part. We have our toxic PvP'ers and just plain toxic folk too, but they tend to keep that to themselves, or have big blow-up-get-banned-fits and go away.

As for being Freezing Cold in your ship...

    This will happen if:

    1. The ship is unpowered/turned off
    2. The ship's ventilation system is turned off
    3. The ship is damaged or otherwise unsealed.
    4. For some inconceivable reason, usually when least expected and will remedy itself on reload. Have not had this happen for a while now, but have seen it happen a few times.

Could be helpful to use the Show Airtight (ugly green mode) from the Build Options (default "N") to check the ship for leaks. Leaks can happen, especially when using angled/diagonal blocks that are otherwise airtight, but have some issues with leaking along edges. The wedge-shaped triangular blocks are exceptional at leaking if they meet along the 45 degree slants.
    |\ meets /| and leaks where the middles touch. _\ leaks here /_ too.

Have to say, I totally LOL'd on this one!
Yep, this is a deep game and the learning curve can be a bit steep in points. I remember hitting 1000 hours and laughing because I still felt like a noob!;)

The payback is a very replayable game that will constantly surprise, delight, and yes, frustrate you when you see a NPC on shirt sleeves while you need to be in armor!

Hang in, you'll find the pluses far outweigh the glitches. Besides, you can always pop over here for help, it's a great group here even if there's the occasional heated conversation, but that to be expected when a Farmer from Iowa is disagreeing with a Baker in France while a Russian IT guy disagrees with both of them!:D

Cheers, and welcome to the community of nuts! Hope you and your Wife have a blast.
