Was in orbital trade station, my SV in side hanger was shot up by drone. I understood that traded station are protected. When was this change made ??? Note I have honorable state with Polaris Megocorp
Ships near trading stations are not protected. Wandering drones or patrol vessels can still shoot your ship. Was your ship in an enclosed hanger? Sometimes weapon fire can go through hangar doors.
Though, why don't the trade station defenses fire at the attacker? That is, assuming the drone hit the trade station. If I fire at the station my rep takes a nosedive and hostilities ensue. You'd expect that the same would apply to others. Or, is it that the NPC-2-NPC rep system is not yet working? Of course, if the drone only fires at the player ship then technically the trade station was not attacked and the station and the drone factions can stay at neutral. Technically. I mean, a rational person would expect that a trade station would not look very favorably at a faction that attacked its customers in its vicinity. Tends to be bad for business... If the NPC-2-NPC faction relations is supported then perhaps a future enhancement: Have a "sphere of control" around the stations, perhaps with the same range as their guns as that would seem logical, and then apply a rep hit to anyone who attacks someone inside that sphere if that someone has at least a neutral status with the faction that owns the station. If the rep hit makes the relations between the station faction and the attacking faction go below neutral, the station defenses would fire at the attacker. This setup would allow other factions to also shoot at the attacker and help in the station defense. There would be no rep hit because the attacker was below neutral. It would also allow the attacking faction to do the attack if the rep between them and the station already was hostile since at that point the rep hit is no longer a deterrent. If the attacker vs. station were neutral or above then the game logic should be that they break off from the attack if the 3rd party target gets inside the station's protective range. Well, unless "the plot requires otherwise", of course, but then it's a setup anyway. Just my musings on how to make the internal logic of the game universe to work...
There's a risk of exploiting such mechanic - I'd lure patrolling enemy vessels near the trade station, and make it attack the vessel.
So this is a bug, oh boy get to file bug report, thanks. NOTE Ship was INSIDE, no doors to close, Great now I must bring my "DOOR SV" . This is a problem a AI of game, it knows will not be hit but ignores political problem of treaty violations of firing on protected space with no return fire.
Drones Should break off attack unlike humans they are toasters, rules are rules "yes/no", what no standing AI orders.
The simplest solution would be to not allow drones within firing range of the station. Once you are in or very close to the station then you will be safe. If you want to hide out at the station for hours on end then that is up to you.
You can't dock to a station that you don't own, unless the station was set to public (which it can't be). If the station were set to public then the first player that came along could press P and take ownership of the entire station, plus it would mess up the whole NPC faction stuff the station is supposed to have. To the OP, you are only protected at the station if you are parked inside a completely enclosed area and make sure to close the hangar doors. If they can see it they can shoot it, so I'm guessing you weren't parked in an enclosed area.....
Most likely he was in one of those(quite old) Rhomboid shaped Trade Station that has open access Bays on all four sides...
That is what I am assuming as well. Which would mean they were not protected from attacks, and it also would mean it was working as intended based on the POI design. i.e. It wasn't intended that they are safe from attacks in that POI. Not enclosed, not intended to be safe....
I thought I was allowed to dock with planetary bases that are non-public factions. I could be mistaken though.
I was under the impression you can not dock to BA, you just land there but the ship does not become invincible like when you dock on a CV.
