If I add a clone chamber to an HV that is open to the exterior and facing downward but an ample clearance above the ground, how will it function? Will it function at all? Addendum: does not work! I was already building the HV to which I wanted to add the clone chamber. Since I was on a snow planet, hypothermia was a convenient means to test it. It did spawn me... ABOVE the backside of the downward-facing chamber, buried in the blocks that were above it. So even though the space below it was completely unobstructed, the game insisted on spawning me above the chamber which was very much obstructed. That is some seriously buggy behavior. I had expected it to be more forgiving like the current SV/HV cockpits. No, wait... it worked the second time! The first time the HV was aloft over water; did the game perceive the area below the chamber as unacceptable because of the water, even to the point of spawning me above it inside of other blocks? The second attempt I moved the HV over land and set it down. So it does work... IF certain conditions are met.
I'm busy! I was hoping someone had already tried it and could save me the kamikaze before I get a round tuit.
K. Give me a minute... It works, seemingly like when we get out of a cockpit : it will spawn the player close to the device, anywhere there is some room : I blew myself up with debug rocket, chose my HV and spawned standing on top of the clone chamber. I think I placed it "upside down" hence why it's not touching the HV back (top space above clone chamber). .
Actually, it does not work for me. Now I have to redesign it until the bugs find something else to infest. No, wait... it worked the second time! The first time the HV was aloft over water; did the game perceive the area below the chamber as unacceptable because of the water, even to the point of spawning me above it inside of other blocks? The second attempt I moved the HV over land and set it down. So it does work... IF certain conditions are met.
My guess is that we usually don't put any blocks on top of cockpits because that is where the windshield is, so it was a natural location candidate to spawn the player and avoid him falling down. If we had the clone chamber on the belly of a CV far up in the sky and respawned under it we would end up falling back down to the ground. But there had to be a decision where to spawn the player, and it has to be within a reasonable distance from the clone chamber, else players could abuse this : put the clone chamber inside a huge mass of armored blocks at tip of vessel, get vessel in contact with enemy base, get killed then respawn behind enemy defenses (just an example). Now that we know Eleon can give us nice crouch, surely we can hope to see a few more "transitions" like when sitting on a bench or lying / rising from a bed, raising the arm to (at least) touch a container/ object when "interacting" with it instead of staying upright with both arms straight on our side, etc. Then when respawning after death it could be in a bed in the med bay, maybe in light underwear, and we would have to get rid of bandages and get the suit/ armor on before resuming play. Maybe even say "thanks" to the good nurse.
