    I spent 20 minutes mining a meteorite on a planet and got 800 ore. Is this normal? I could get 1200 ore from a medium deposit and it would take me less than a minute to mine it. I am using an Epic Drill. If this is not broken then make it only take a very short time to mine a meteorite or if you want us to spend 20 minutes then give us 5000 to 6000 ore in return.

    Vehicle mounted drills work faster than handheld drills, and you can put more of them on a meteorite at the same time.

    Yes this is normal. Meteorites mine very very slowly. A vessel drill works a bit faster though it's still slow.

    Yes, I have mined meteorites before and it always took a long time, but I seem to remember getting a LOT more than just 800 ore. Why was the amount of ore you could get reduced?

    Update. The first meteorite I mined above the red bar was already half depleted. I just now found a new one with the red bar at full. It took 24 minutes to drill (timed with a clock) and I got 931 ore. This is absurd. I have better things to do with 24 minutes of my life. If it is going to take that long please give me a LOT more ore. Not sure I will ever mine another meteorite. It's just not worth it.

    It's based on the playfield and game settings and the amount of ore the planet had initially (going off of what the comments in the playfield files say). So the yield per meteorite can vary, though I have not had much luck actually configuring this

    It's best to mine them out with a mining HV as that takes only a few minutes.

    And I agree it is way too slow but it's also infinite ore. People can just exploit it for a ton of quick ore super fast right now anyway.

    Depending on the scenario, you may not have a choice - meteorites drop when resources are depleted in most circumstances, so if you're on a planet, and in need of resources, these could be your ONLY source of resources.

    I do agree though - the time involved in mining them, combined with the yield they provide is not particularly justified. I get that the long mining time is really meant to allow players to reach them and have a chance at harvesting resources before someone else sucks them up completely - but I do think some adjustment, either to the per-damage-tick amount harvested or the rate of damage does need some adjusting. After all, we can strip-mine an asteroid in a matter of seconds, and those are vastly larger than meteorites.

    I'll admit, it's actually been quite a while since I've seen or mined a meteorite, but last time I did, they were not infinite - after a time they would deplete and go "poof". It could be different if you're playing some modded version or custom scenario, so your mileage may vary. I play completely 100% unmodified vanilla, no 3rd party scenarios or anything, since the game is still deep in development, bugs are still a part of everyday life, and it can be nearly impossible to tell if a bug encountered it a result of an issue with the base game itself, or some 3rd party mod/scenario/add-on/etc.

    I think he meant infinite as in another Meteorite will be spawned shortly after the first is mined out. So, effectively you get an infinite stream of a given resource, with a bit of work involved. When you have a laser drill mining HV you can largely AFK the mining of the Meteorite. Less so with the mechanical drills as they have a short range.

    Ok, that may well be the case - because meteorites do continue to fall when a resource reaches that Depleted Statue, so yes, one could, if so inclined, collect enough ore to build their own planet, one block at a time. But that really isn't so different from having a warp-capable Mining CV - a trip thorough a couple of systems, and a few Asteroids stripped clean, and you have tens of thousands of ores and crushed rocks (that can be refined into ores) in your hold - also essentially giving one virtually unlimited resources as well.

    You can also mix this up more by changing server settings or by admins running console-commands on servers to do things like replenish ground resources, regenerate POI's and the like. I don't know that the issue is really about how many resources one can accumulate, but rather one of how long it actually takes to accumulate those resources.

    Voxel-mining is quite fast. Mining resources that spawn as either surface or sub-surface non-voxel deposits is only a fractional bit slower. Harvesting meteorites though - it does seem to be an extremely drawn-out process.

    It's the difference between being able to get all the resources you will ever need, for the entire game, forever, in a single star system versus having to actually explore a bit.
    Same problem as autominers, just set a few down and you have infinite ore.

    Autominers can be set to Deplete a resource site. That's the only way I can ever get around to actually being able to deplete resources enough on a single planet to trigger meteorites.

    Of course, if you're patient enough, you can basically strip mine enough of any planet into Crushed Rock, then refine that into all the Iron, Copper or Silicon you'll ever need as well.

    I played a Brazilian server, which, at the beginning, there was a radioactive storm, with very limited resources, played looking meteorites and taking what was. It was very hard at first but the challenge was interesting, more now that green bugs are bad people hehe.-

    Those little cashew-beetles have actually always been, well, I wouldn't call them "bad", but they've always had some quirky behaviors. I've stood still, right in front of them, as they lean left/lean right in a sort of "dance", and done the little dance with them for quite a while, and that's all they've done. I've also had them attack while "dancing", or otherwise ignore me.

    Now it seems that aggressive is a default behavior, and I'm fine with that, but I did kind of enjoy the whole "neither of us knows what to make of the other" sort of behaviors from before... it really gave them a truly "alien" sense of being alien.

    Unless you happen to be in a fairly fast SV already in the air and can see where they come down when they come down, you have to rely on your scanner to actually locate one. You'll certainly know it when you see it - big ball of rock, sticking out of pristine ground, dressed up in a "resource texture" corresponding with whatever resource it might be.
