First: Please read the introduction of the new game start here: https://empyriononline.com/threads/...kua-temperate-starter-moon.99831/#post-451541 Second, the game start on THIS starter moon is NOT final. It is a work-in-progress, with things like POI, creatures, and resources still to be discussed and finalized. And that's where your feedback comes in! While we're working on refinements, we'd love to hear YOUR feedback on the CURRENT state of this starter moon AND your suggestions for improving it. Perhaps it is already working for you? If so or if not, let us know!
First, this is a very challenging start, which means I like it. However, it isn't possible to mitigate the radiation, which means you are going to die of radiation over and over until you get enough tech/high enough level to make a shower, or get lucky and find some other way to mitigate. Guaranteed deaths aren't challenging. They are annoying. There needs to be a way to manage the radiation. The options for early mitigation/management: 1. take a shower 2. radiation ointment (requires mushrooms and confetti moss scrapings) 3. radiation pills (requires mushrooms and confetti moss scrapings) I quickly found the Opportunity, which I was able to swiftly patch so I had a place where I wasn't constantly getting nuked (there is a block in the roof that isn't airtight, but looks like it is. However you can salvage the bad block and replace it with a quick crafted one--problem solved). However, there's no shower inside the building. There is a bed, but without a multitool to pick it up and re-place it as a shower (which requires promethium, which one may or may not find), you have to craft one and add it to the building yourself. In my initial travels, I didn't find either mushrooms or confetti moss scrapings. I found fire moss, but not the confetti required. I've mentioned this before in the past: it's absolutely ridiculous that I can make a fridge in my portable constructor, or small base constructor at level 3 or so... but cannot make a shower. There's some sort of hidden requirement for the decorative blocks. If I remember right, you can't make the furniture blocks until something like level 7. Things like beds, tables and showers should open up at a much lower level--perhaps even be default available at level 1. I level pretty quickly, but the number of deaths I'm going to rack up trying to get to level 7 to make it so I can bathe to wash off the radiation will be staggering. And there's no other way to avoid these deaths. There is a very simple fix for all of this: Add a shower to the Opportunity POI that you get directed to. Once inside, you can patch the hole, and then use the shower as a cleansing station/radiation mitigation. Yes, you will have to come back to bathe a lot, but that's part of a difficult start... ... and now there's a way to manage the radiation effects--doing so is up to you. Otherwise, this start is nothing but a bunch of *mandatory* deaths (which are lame and suck) until there is a way to manage the radiation.
@Pach - Big I came to same Conclusions - including to give the advanced Player a switch/Button to DEACTIVATE all Info Popups which keeps you from surviving... Just like the Arid Planet was - just a note to hit F1 IF you wan't to play the Story Line.
Did a fresh start to test a theory... Only to notice that this change is now the exact opposite.... Only 0.9 RAD on the Planet... A major part of the Challenge is now removed. I would rather like to see 1-2 Rad Ointment or a RAD Shot in the Start Equipment only redused by personal settings easy 3, medium 2 or hard 1 or something in that line
The HV-Repair Quest is still not progressing by itself and has to be manually continued. (Gen and Fuel Tank in Place)
You got a low-rad desert planet? There must be a pretty wide swing in the rad levels, then, if sometimes it's below the suit's ability, and sometimes not.
Okay, so then there's some feedback for this planet... Make the radiation consistent: either your suit can handle it for every seed, or it can't. Because the difficulty of this moon changes *dramatically* if you are below the suit's threshhold. Then, you only have to manage oxygen. So if the intention of the world is to only have to manage oxygen, alter the radiation levels down so they will never exceed the suit's abilities. If the intention is to have that harder start with the radiation, bump it up so it never can be below the suit's threshhold. Personally, I like the harder start, with both radiation AND oxygen to worry about.
Just tested it... its seed related how much Radiation the Planet has... Seed 666666 - 4.4 Rad Seed 456789 - 0.9 Rad Seed 123456 - 0.9 Rad Seed 234567 - 2.1 Rad Seed 345678 - 4.0 Rad Seed 567891 - 4.4 Rad Seed 789123 - 3,6 Rad and so on...
The playfield is set to a RAD min-max so this can change up and down. Radiation: [0, 5] What do you think.. have a fixed RAD. What you think could fit to be hard enough but not unfair (Given the Opportunity might either have meds preplaced or a shower; Note that RAD shall not kill the player when going through the tutorial in the crashsite. He should be able to read that and arrive at the Opportunity and maybe closely survive if using the shower)
I can imagine that only when, a fixed RAD Value is in place so the player still feels the glooming threat to die from Radiation but not too fast when the setting is around 3,0 - 3,3 Rad and yet still has a better chance to do the RP and reading all kind of Info without burning crisp.
Rad needs to be over 1, so the suit can't handle it. I'd have said anywhere from 1.5 to 3.o or so. A range is nice. Please put a SHOWER in opportunity. That's really what is needed. Because you cannot make more meds. The needed materials are not there. Once they are gone, they are gone, and now it's death by radiation over and over again. And you cannot make a shower until level 7.
Actually...the meds ARE THERE...not easy to find but it is possible but you will die in equal intervals until you find, i.e., Mushrooms. -here->(tiny white dots in the picture) also Alien Plasma ZR 1 .>
Ok. 'Managed' a game Start on Skilion without dying with 3.6 Rad. I skipped as many Tooltips and Dialogs as possible to get a shower at level 5. Done.
@Hummel-o-War What I will try is to use NO Deposit to actually leave the Moon. Living from the Land so to speak.
I am not so sure about the shower but we agreed to move the furnishing down to lvl3 and allow them in the PC for now. The Opportunity will get some radiation meds preplaced (and i have "fixed" the holes in the poi as well)
About some new Rocks... not only have they for their small size a ridiculous amount of hit points - 1000/1000 - they also give an enormous amount of crushed stone. Comparable with the large 7k Stone Pilars.
CRASH and LOSS of items. I spoke to soon. I crashed on my way to Opportunity, and all items I had in my constructor vanished. Minus a pile of rock. I did keep the items I had made. I am going to restart now, a reload and exit and reload did nothing. Poo Poo.
