Hello, TL;DR: Is there any way to disable client and vuplex logfiles? Grey text is not really important, you can skip it. I got a severe issue (use your mouse to select all grey text if you want to read this easily - I really wonder why no one else has reported this issue, or it is just me, or the word 'logfile' was not used, means: got no results when searching (here, steam, google...)) From 3 up to 9 gigabytes are created each hour of playtime! (you maybe can imagine the impact on full-hard-drive-system-halts and SSD-wear and stuff... ) in folder <Drive>:\Empyrion - Galactic Survival\Logs\<number>\Client_<timestamp-number>.log this is one of the logfiles created (or more, with a different stamp) there is another logfile in the depths of Client/.../Vuplex folder which also grows a lot and fast "debug.log" Is there any way to disable these logs? (Background story for the interested ones: I had to move the game to another harddrive and wondered why it had such a huge size, found the logfiles and deleted them, was thinking they are huge and much because of 2 years but I did not do the math, then after a short time system hangs and game crashes over and over, investigation, full harddrive, found the logs again and some other stuff not required and deleted, ran into the issue again after a while, realized the logfile problem and did the math, now kept restarting the game every few hours to delete logs and circumvent errors and crashes, did the math again each time, took a flight into frenzy, searching web for hours, writing this post, hoping for help)
I have not had this issue. My log files are measured in kb. 83kb for a 2 hour play session on a server is my latest one. I did not read your gray text though, please do not hide text like that if you want it to be read.
Sounds like you are going to have to share these insane sized log files with the devs. Perhaps you are running a custom scenario filled with errors, or modified config files that are throwing repeated errors, or something generally bugged. For example, I have thousands of play hours worth of log files inside my Logs folder, going back many years, and my entire folder is under 60MB. Megabytes not gigabytes. Each individual log file is only measured in KB for me. So for you to be getting 3-9GB of log files per hour..... Something isn't right there at all.
@ravien_ff: grey text is not important at all for a solution, but thanks for the hint that it could irritate, I will make this more clear next time in case I run no mods. I only tested some ships and bases from workshop. But I have quite many changes in the config but none of them should create this impact. And. I had this issue with pure vanilla too - if this happens again with pure vanilla I will investigate the logs in depth and eventually send it to the devs. For now, since this problem seems to be unique, I'm heavily guessing there is something wrong just for me. So I will start a short session to get a smaller log that is suitable for analyzing and will do the same with pure vanilla and report back. Well. I'll report back in any case. I fear this will take a while... but I want this solved and maybe the result is of greater interest than just for me. Thanks for the feedback!
I hope so, that it is just 1 error. I could not check the files, they are too big. I tried to look at them with a hex editor instead but imagine a log analysis in such way. Well. Now that you ask I got some more ideas how this could be done. But I will do it the way mentioned above. 1st thing, if I just stand waiting in game, nothing happens, thats a first hint that some action or approach will cause this. Not a too big surbrise. I will report back when I got some better/informative results and the time for testing/reproducing ofc.
It seems Vuplex is the reason in some way. That's just a guess for now but a resonable guess! I've got problems to reproduce it and catch the related error. I keep investigating this... Another heavy guess is that it is memory leak related. I don't like to explain more details of it before I'm a bit more sure about it or got evidence but if I'd be forced to say something....then one side in the communication with Vuplex tries to access or create an object that no longer exists over and over again (creating gigabites in minutes) And it seems if this happens then both logs start to grow fast. Please remember: it is still just a guess! All this still could be coincidence. (I read a bit about Vuplex and can't find nicer words as @Myrmidon did, reasonable opinions need no excuses )
I removed the 'help needed' tag from this thread for now. For some reason it stopped building such huge logfiles. I could only guess what was the reason. Strongest guess so far is the error is fired on only 1 playfield (and at specific location(s) at starter moons) and this leads to creating this huge logs (both mentioned above) in seconds; guess: depending on how long the server keeps this location active (player is in range). Further guess: error on some POIs that were tampered with (salvaging) and maybe quest related. I will update this in case this happens again and if I can give more info about it.
