Hey all, Fancied a quick play today, so fired up the game and loaded my save. I was parked in a basic CV, just outside a Zirax POI I'd previously de-turretted last session. My CV is very basic, but has Minigun Turrets for fending off any Drones as well as Sentry Turrets to protect against hostile critters and ground troops. I should feel pretty safe exiting the CV and approaching the POI, so what was so annoying? I exit the CV, start to approach the POI, when I'm perhaps 10-15 metres away, a Zirax trooper spawns right in front of me and is immediately firing, no delay to orient on me, they know exactly where I am. I take a hit. My Sentry turret remains unresponsive. I jet-pack jump backwards while firing, but the Zirax's aim is perfect and I take a second hit. My Sentry turret remains unresponsive. He's using a shotgun, from the sound of it, and despite my dodging and increasing distance, is landing shots. My Sentry turret remains unresponsive. His shots are doing less damage as I've increased distance, butt they still hurt. My Sentry turret remains unresponsive. Retreating as far as my CV and, I thought, covered largely by its bulk, I take a final hit and die. My Sentry Turret remains entirely unresponsive. The death animation plays as I watch and, you guessed it, my Sentry remains entirely unresponsive. This encounter, since the Zirax appeared, lasted no more than a minute at most, however, my Sentry Turret remained inactive that entire time. When will Turrets be fixed? When will we be able to rely on them to shoot their designated targets? They've had this annoying delay for as long as I can remember, and I've been around a while now. Turret responsiveness seems to get worse the longer you play. What fundamental issue is preventing turrets from working properly? I did compose a post on this subject a while back, try to canvas people who had issues vs. those that claimed not to have noticed anything. Was there something those of us who repeatedly have this issue have / don't have that sets us apart? Some specific hardware, some specific driver, Windows version, something we're simply doing differently? However, this post was deleted before it got live, yet I'd hoped it might aid get to the bottom of what's going on, and how many people it impacts. I've seen plenty of Youtube videos that clearly show the issue. While turrets on the Player's vessels seem much more prone to this issue, I have approached POI's that have a long delay before they start shooting me too. However, as I am a single target, they don't suffer from the "next target" delay that's very apparent. It'd be interesting to hear from those that multi-player regularly if they notice a delay switching between players when a POI is targetting them. I like Empyrion, but I find myself regularly being frustrated by issues such as this. However well-designed a player's vessel might be, if the Turrets don't fire when they should, that design counts very little. What do people think? I've been playing for almost eight years at this point, with a variety of hardware during that time. It makes me a little sad that something as fundamental as turrets working is still very very flaky and simply cannot be relied upon to work. Do you get this turret delay issue? I get it all the time and the delay gets longer the longer the play session is. If I play for a couple of hours, turret response is exceedingly poor. Generally fine to counter Drones, due to the relative ranges as there's more time for them to respond, but I will take hits from longer-ranged drones while my own turrets are not firing. Most notable however is Sentry Drones vs. ground troops or critters. Vs. melee critters, the delay is annoying but not fatal. Vs. anything that can shoot however, it's a game-breaker. Edit: I just want to add how random this issue can be. There's pretty much always a delay, and it certainly gets worse the longer the play session. However, turrets can - seemingly randomly - work pretty well. For example, I reverted to a backup save, so I could try things again from the exact same place. I exit the CV and enable God Mode so I could observe how long things take. The Zirax appears, instantly firing at me and I just stand there. I count a little over 30 seconds before that Sentry Turret actually fired. When it did fire, it made short work of that Zirax. Moments after the Sentry Started firing and that Zirax was dead, my CV's main Minigun Turrets also started shooting, taking out several Zirax (spawing on the left and right sides of the POI relative to my position) quickly, the Sentry then switch to shooting into the POI, through an open door. I cannot explain this difference, but a fresh load often sees turrets more responsive for a few minutes.
