@all Thanks for the feedback regarding the Shield Generator we are looking into options what we can do. Currently we are leaning to provide both models so players can choose them self what one to place
Dear Eleon, you are best. We need both style, they are each unique in their own way. The main reason why we worry because new shield model totally didn't fit (will break design) in many our old structures and encounters ships in the game. You can see it by your self, i gived example. All should to be redesigned. New shield difficult to design (fit) in the center of the room. But new block is the best what can fit in to the wall or roof, we need it. Game will allow to use multiple styles without any problems, can use existing id block definition for the root and block names for new styles, same you did for new thrusters models (big thanks for it). Upgrade and downgrade will supported too.
It would truely be great if you could have both. If you could do this could it be named as one from a different culture, perhaps even an Earther's one that way there'd be a reason for the difference in design, representing a recent Galactic change, so only the more recent ships bases have that 'new' design!
If simplification is important for performance or similar reasons, a pyramidal shape with angles that align with those we can make with hull block greebles would be preferable. Something like this would fit more easily in spaces built around the existing model and collision volume, probably without adjustment most of the time. I can already see such a thing being placed as the feed antenna in a parabolic deflector dish. We can live without it spinning, especially if it means better client performance.
In the end we decided to not add the old model back afterall instead we reworked the shield generator another time, both the old version, the version from Part I (the blocky version) are still in the files and commented out in the blocksconfig for who wants to use either one of them. We hope this is more to the likeing of players New version looks like this and will be in the NEXT Exp Update: Left T1, Right T2
I don't really know what to say really, it is a surprise as it's completely different. The T2 appears to have similar inner gubbins with four layers instead of three of the T1, but with a much stronger framing cage So, are they still 3,3,3 ?... they seem 2,1,1 Will the light 3,2,1 shield still exist? Are there any annimated parts?
I believe we can work with this. The more compact model makes lighting a heck of a lot easier. There's enough clearance around the whole thing now to combine with recesses in the adjacent hull blocks to form cozy little walkways. Some paint and greeble reshaping will be necessary to make it look just right again, but this version appears to be entirely without the previous one's practical issues. With all due respect to General Hammond, I can live without spinning. It doesn't have to spin. We have enough other things that spin already. I might need to try syncing those pulsing blue bits with some blinking flares and lights, though.
