Hey all, So, I found a crashed Goblin. Great. I landed next to it and Saved. Popping down a Core, I started looting the POI's cargo, several high-end components. Nice! I go to reclaim a block with the Multi Tool and BOOM the entire POI explodes, nothing left. SI issue. I reload, turn SI off, and place a Core down again. I go to loot and.... it's loads of really basic stuff, no high-end components at all. I didn't think a POI's cargo could change this way... I mean, a reload totally changing the contents.
This would happen if loot is generated when a container is first opened, not on structure generation.
Indeed. My, perhaps flawed, understanding was that loot gets generated when a POI is discovered. So, once I find it, and loot is locked-in. However, this experience directly contradicts that understanding... It's not a huge deal, I only rarely reload - Structural Integrity glitches being a common reason to reload - but I'd never seen loot change like this before.
One of the things I've lerned is that some 'coreless' POI ships explode when touched, that's why I usually shoot a bit off as a first action before placing my 'RE Salvage Core' as I've lost too many of those precious gems by being careless, and they're expensive!, if, like the Goblin they explode I don't bother with parts as such I just run round jumping and grabbling at any chunk that has an important looking bit on it, then chuck some on the floor (as it stays longer) and run after another chunk until it's all dissipated, then look to see what goodies I got. I will say the the first time I went into space and found a wreck I was scared sh**less, more so when one shot at me, (bear in mind that I had a few hundred hours on the game already through my no dead bloke rules), and I ventured off tentatively and returned hastily, it was a fantastic moment. As for reloading, well surely that can only happen if you save before the event, the only time I save before an event is for Bluepring spawning as I still find the placement of larger objects on terrain kinda akward and the things always in my face (but that is entirely my keyboard set up and a different story) Back to the delemma, I think maybe that there's certain blocks that can be changed/included/exchanged/replaced/removed whatever when the area is generated for the first time, something that's been in minecraft ruins mods since ever really, so it might be... did you reload at the site or a little further away, like 'outta sight'
@Peter Conway - as I'm just running single player, I tend to do a quick "SI Off" console command prior to salvaging a wreck these days. I've been playing with the current Beta and had numerous wrecks just explode on me the instant I tried to recover a block. Luckily, for the same reason, I pop down a backup save beforehand, so I just restored that, SI Off, and went about salvaging. Re: the reported issue: I saved while standing right next to the POI. Looted cargo, then started salvaging blocks... BOOM POI exploded. I reloaded and the loot was different. That's what was odd, I thought I'd effectively locked-in the cargo loot at that point.
Yes that is odd, I could kinda understand if you went to a save a few mins earlier before you got to the area, but not right there! that is a bit strange.
