EPD v3.00.0 Build 6318 is out New engines - New YAML engine, non-destructive: a save changes only what you changed. Comments, key order, formatting and values EPD does not know stay in your file. - New ECF engine, more stable and universal: config, trader and terrain files are patched in place, not rewritten. - Opens 3,631 of the 3,636 game and workshop playfield files tried. Broken indentation is repaired in memory, a typo no longer blocks a file. Faster loading - Faster first start. - Incremental loading: ECF and game files are only read again when their time stamp changed. Preflight with Go to - New check engine: Error, Warning, Info, every finding has a code. - Go to: one click jumps to the tab and marks the field. - Finds what crashes the game (tested in the game): missing planet size, humidity, water or PlanetType, missing terrain.ecf, biome textures and underground layers the terrain file does not have, SpawnPOINear without a range, start structures that are never placed. - Warns about names that point nowhere: biomes, spawn areas, POIs, drone bases, creatures, items, factions, blueprints and groups. Real Scenario editing and workshop support - Tree with the main game, your own scenarios, the game's scenarios and workshop scenarios (names from Steam, can be switched off, opens an internet connection to the Steam API to retrieve the names). - Pick-lists show what exists in the scenario you edit first, then the main game. - "New playfield here..." in the tree. New playfields that work - New planets, moons and suns start as a minimal planet the game loads, terrain.ecf included ("Save as" copies it). - New space playfields start with the keys nearly every shipped one has. Safer editing - A save asks if the file was changed on disk since you opened it. - Backups are limited: the last 5 per file (Options > Backups). - Unexpected errors are logged (logs\epd.log) and shown instead of killing the window. - The version selector is advisory: values it does not know are kept and marked in red, nothing is deleted. Editors - Terrain editor: save feedback, "In Use" marks for the textures, creates a missing terrain.ecf. - Name and prefab browsers have a Clear button. - Many lists now come from the game's own files (drones, resources, creature groups, structures, ... all read form config files now). - New keys: instance limits of build 5222 (MaxStructureCount, MaxClassSize), StoreInventoryOnEnter, DenyLeavePlayer, FactionTerritory (with All), Difficulty for space. Bug Fixes - A lot Known problems - A random space playfield as a player start location does not work yet. Not sure, if that's even possibly after analyzing the game's playfields. If anyone has an idea if and how this works, please let me know. - Gas giants are not checked. - About a third of the newest blueprint files (V31 and higher) cannot be read completely. Will try to fix... - Translations not done yet, just English mostly. Thank you for every bug report and any know-how about how the game works to improve EPD further is highly appreciated! You've inspired me to work on playfields again! Thank you for all of the hard work you put into this tool. I was checking out the new features and came across "Deco Presets" under the Biomes tab. I clicked on Add, and got a blank pop-up message with Ok/Cancel. Is this a bug or a feature that's not implemented yet?
Thanks for the kind words and giving it a try. About the deco presets: These deco presets ('NewDeco') have been introduced to the game a while ago. But there is no documentation for it. it's more an 'internal' thing that only the main game playfields use. So i cant offer editing it in EPD. You can still reference them in biomes though if you adapt an existing main game playfield or copy the presets of a main game file into your playfields (be aware of indentations though). But until there's an official documentation for it and I get clearance from the devs, this editor section is not available. Sorry for the inconvenience. But with the new YAML parser it should at least be safe now to open and save playfields containings these NewDeco presets, as EPD doesnt touch them and just change the rest of the file. Hope this helps. /jmc
EPD v3.01 Build 6323 is out What's new EPD 3.1 follows 3.0 with one big visible change, new pick-lists, and a long list of fixes. Files from 3.0 need no conversion. Built for Empyrion V1.20 (builds 5204 and 5222). Pick-lists in a new look - Prefab browser, item selector, combo boxes, player item lists, texture browser and config tag selector now look and work the same way: light list, blue bar at the selected entry, coloured badge at the right (Group, Structure, File, Playfield, Item, Block, Data, Custom, red "Not found"). - Sections show where entries come from (this playfield, scenario, main game, game data); type toggles in the prefab browser; tooltips name the config file. - The filter box only narrows the list, it never changes the value of the field. - "Deselect (clear)" where a value is optional (fixed POI type and prefab, space POI group name, second and under-terrain texture). - Readable item and block names: no line breaks or game markup. Preflight - New: space POI without a Name and a Group Name (Warning), keys that a file has twice (Info), placement rules for random space playfields. - The Display Names of a file's space POIs are offered as start structures. Saving - A save is measured against the file as you last saved it, so add + remove between two saves no longer brings back old text. - POIs, DroneBaseSetup and DroneSpawning of a random planet are written as {} and [] when emptied. Fixed - Lists that changed a value on their own when a filter or a form opened; a crash in the biome list after removing a grass item. - Custom field combo box: duplicate entry, renamed table entries. - Gas giants: colour names (AtmosphereColor: Blue) opened three message boxes; colour picker bugs. - Keys without a value (POIs:, DroneBaseSetup:, DroneSpawning opened as empty frames. - "Ignore and save" after Save as overwrote the open playfield. - Empty scenario list in Re-import after the Options dialog; config editor moved a renamed tag to the end. Known problems - A space playfield as a start location does not work yet (as a destination it does). - Suns and gas giants are experimental (not tested in the game yet); gas giants are also not checked. Fixed (old style) playfields have the lowest priority. - The biomes list has the old look. - About a third of the newest blueprint files cannot be read completely. - English only.
