Just be aware that it requires to take FULL control of your Google account, meaning it cannot only read but also send emails in your name etc. Additionally, apparently, people need to make sure to download it from a VERY TRUSTED location, as there are trojans circulating. I think the bottom line is: stay clear.
My 3 oldest grand kids play it. Thats what made me ask. Plus the fact pokeman is making a come back after all these years. Its like geocashing, gets them outside.
Interesting. I read an article about mugging and robbery and couldn't make heads and tails of it but judging by your words, this actually gets people move around and explore their real surroundings. Apparently, people have been baiting certain PokeStops (or whatnot) to attract people and then mug them. Sad that games always attract less desirable specimen.
Its to bad the world is turning into such a unsafe/sick place to live. I live in northeren Alberta so its not as bad as places in the south. Back to the game. They really enjoy it. I also hear the stock shot up for Nintendo.
Well I mean if you want to be a fear-monger, sure. Just be sure to download it from a legit source and you won't have to worry about Trojans. As far as internet companies go, I trust Google more than any other, so que sera, sera. In regards to muggings and stuff, I kinda regard it similar to GPS: use your brain. If you know it's a bad area... don't go there holding your phone loosely at arms length while walking by yourself at night. Bottom line: don't be dumb and you won't be a victim As far as playing the game, it's actually pretty fun. If you're conscious about not wanting to point your phone at people's faces or property, you can turn off the AR portion and catch them a bit easier. It's also one of the few apps I've seen that actually manages to get people off their lazy butts and walking around once in a while (myself included). All in all, it's not everyones cup of tea, but I've met a surprising number of people who play, young and old
I talked a little with my grand kids last night. They download from itunes. They donot go out at night. And your right it gets them off there butts
You misunderstood my comment about Google access. It was actually the game developers who required full access to your Google account. And that is a scary thing. However, apparently it was only an issue with the iPhone version (I think) and that has been fixed with the latest update. I agree with you that it just takes common sense to stay clear of most trouble. Though, this game is also and perhaps mostly targeted at children and they occasionally still lack in that department. And totally agree with the anti-couch potato notion of this game. Like TCR already mentioned, it gets them outside, which is great. I live in a forest, by a lake. Almost curious what that game would have to offer out there.
Any game that cause people to loose there minds and resort to mugging or robbery or killing isn't worth playing in my opinion. A game is meant to be enjoyed and to have fun not to cause crime and panic or fear. It's a shame really. They need to rethink how this new pokemon game is causing a problem and address it. Damage control needs to happen. Also I would not give any game private irl information or control over email or bank account information you would be asking for a lot of problems down the road. Bad people will maby try to find a way to deliver a severe virus to disable your computer or phone or to steal important information for ether identity theft or to rob your bank account using the pokemon go. You have to very careful. I never heard of pokemon go since a week ago I have no idea how this new game is effecting people mentally. I would stay away from it if it is causing problems.
Just heard on Edmonton radio there are tour buses taking people around the city to collect there Pokémon. OMG...lol
Shame that game mechanic couldn't have been built around angry birds instead... although maifesting physics collisions into the real world would have posed an issue.
Im guessing the next big thing will be walking around in the real world with a super imposed artificial world ontop of the real world using one of the new 3d head sets.
