Star Citizen at Gamescom. At least they are posting whats going on. http://us5.campaign-archive1.com/?u=32d8ef31243db6075c45571bd&id=0e6c500829&e=37cac5eb10
This game is going to die in a puddle of it's own hype just like NMS. It would already have happened except that stupid whales keep purchasing digital content for a game that isn't even playable yet. Seriously Roberts is pulling the same scam those fuckers at mechwarrior online pulled. You just make a basic arena area and then make rich boys buy OP "vehicles" from you to fight people who can't afford those OP vehicles in endless repeat matches. Running low on funds? Make a cool new skin for a toy spaceship for your little arena game and watch as the dorks praise you from their mothers basements!
Never really understood why some people get so irate about a game that it seems like it did them personal harm or something. Either you are interested, and keep an eye on it. Or you are not, and move on with your life to something that you ARE interested in. Why dwell and throw so much hate on something you don't even play? Now... tossing some hate towards SE, after spending hundreds of hours in it and supporting the game, only to see the devs basically say "FU" to the community and go on a tangent, then lose entire focus and turn the game into a steaming pile of dren... ok, that has a bit of justification for upset. But, as well... one moves on to a game that is more fun (Enter Empyrion) hehe! So... like... chill man
Just because I don't play something doesn't really mean anything. Games are an ecosystem like everything else in the universe. When one factor emerges or changes in one part of the ecosystem it effects all parts. The design system and philosophy behind games like star citizen and mechwarrior online is damaging gaming as a whole. This effects me as a player. If every game switched to the design ideology behind star citizen I would be in need of a new hobby. Also it's kind of silly to expect me to play star citizen before I can criticize the development strategy being used to make it. Especially since that would require a cash investment that I'm not about to make in a whale focused game like SC. If you notice I'm not actually saying anything at all about the game itself anyway. It's just the sheer greed based model they are using to develop the game that I am taking issue with. From my perspective they are literally extending the development time of the game way past what it's investors expected just so they can sell more special content to whales. See there isn't much actual GAME to even criticize. Just videos and trailers. Other than an arena for whales to display their wealth in there is no actual game to criticize. You think about that for a minute. One more thing. If you think I'm crazy for my idea that development of games and their strategies don't harm gamers look at NMS. Imagine what a brilliant game it might have been had it's developers not sold out to Sony and consolized. You don't think that monetary development business decision didn't impact you as a gamer? It didn't set the bar lower for space exploration and survival games?
When a company does something stupid, other companies learn from it. I'm so fucking sick of this hate train mentality these days. EITHER YOU LIKE THE GAME OR YOU DONT. Move... the fuck ... on. But eh, whatever. Go about your hate. I'm not going to bother listening to it. I would rather spend my time on something I like doing.
Actually the problem is a lot more complex than you are making it. For one thing success is relative. Is a poor product is produced at low cost and bought excessively then it is a success from a business standpoint even if it is a dismal game. When game finance is divorced from game quality you end up teaching very different kinds of lessons to very different people. Gaming is a big hobby for me. A lot of my free time goes into it. You won't find me discussing or annoyed at some rule change in golf or hockey. That doesn't effect me. But people making money while not delivering the product they advertise does. You can call that hate if you want. I just call it being aware of the environment around in my hobby.
I posted the video because of the shear beauty of the graphics. Its almost like a movie. As for the rant. Its up to the consumer to deside. Yes Star Citizen is a major money machine. But if you ever look over there web site or recieve the news letters you will see they are very open with whats going on more so than some I can think of. The game is still in Alpha and its free. The ship you have to buy. They start around 50 dollars I believe. I have the game but no ships. And I have to say its a real beauty to behold. Just compare one of there elevators to a cheaper know game alone tells you the quality of the product for the price. As for NMS. I have over 40 hours into the game and have only found one game breaking problem. After about 1 to 2 hours of play time a major lag just hits hard out of no were. So its a simple reboot to start over. Not a big deal. Great game.

The gamescon footage looked interesting. The visual production values are clearly fantastic. That being said I've never seen so many people shouting and clapping over the prospect of a retractable ship ladder.
He's right frigid. Once poor business practices set in because millions of monkeys fell in the trap, you wind up with thousands of copycat companies trying to cash in. We've seen it so many times. We currently live in a sea of very successful, unfinished games, that may or may not ever be completed, and nobody gives a damn. There is some disgusting money whoring going on with Star Citizen and I refuse to be a part. Even if the game actually does turn out decent, I won't buy it because I can't support this kind of business practice. 4 realz... It's more complicated than just purchasing entertainment, or at least it should be. They had the most successful Kickstarter ever, but millions upon millions was not enough? Minecraft was one of the most successful games ever, but it was left unfinished by an extremely wealthy Notch. The only reason nobody is pissed about it is because he actually had the decency to form a company to finish the game first. (If you can call what they are doing to it "finishing it") You should still be pissed is my point. Even before Mojang formed he was spending more time scuba diving in exotic locations than working on the game. Everyone has a cashout price. Just ask Wollay, ask Garriott. We sent the latter to space ffs... Enough is enough. It's not all bad though. At least we got Empyrion, and Rimworld out of it!
