They do work, you just have to rotate them, and make sure they're the top of the craft. IE: no other blocks of any kind on that level.
Really? I tried multiple times with both an HV and SV with the docking pads on the roof. I've not tried since it was first mentioned, so I'll give it another go! Scoob.
Had a bug interfere with my HV building efforts earlier... reported, and then played some Turok Dinosaur hunter to clear my head - just discovered that it is available on steam and it is a decent port too. Then came back to this game and decided that I was going to do some HV building on Masperon and found the perfect building spot, really, for everything:
Introducing, Fantasy. A powerful, mid-to-late survival game Assault hovercraft. Excellent acceleration, Hardened steel, 4 plasma turrets, and an artillary turret make this a terrifying package for your alien foes and peace of mind for your loot gathering and mining operations. Possesses lots of storage, a constructor, and everything your Empyrion fantasy requires... Will glide off of mountain tops, and land as gently as a leaf. Is kind to the mid-to-late game wallet. While I didn't make anything as cool as Fractal's HV today I gave my Falcon CV a texture/detail update and then went back to pondering over the modified Blockade Runner I'm building. I want to do something different with the turrets so they look more integrated into the design instead of like they were just slapped on. Giving the hull a coat of primer while I think it over(ie metal texture). It's a shame the symmetry tool doesn't work with paint and textures. A texture all command would be pretty spiffy too. Oh yeah I also finished an SV I'd been working on before I started the Falcon. An interesting thing happened while I was flying around. I stopped during reentry to take pics of my ship while it was on fire. Then I used the teleport command to get down to the surface. My ship was still on fire. Kind of reminded me of that old cartoon show Battle of the Planets and their ship the Phoenix.
I think having a retractable landing gear would be perfect for that. I hope the devs add that feature soon.
Today, a group of three of us took on the Omicron Drone Base. With one crappy SV and guns. We won! Eventually. Prize? Epic Plasma Cannon. We'll take it. --Brian
So I didn't feel like continuing my survival game today, and was pondering over some of the work in progress ships that needed updating. Having recently had a chance to peruse the civilian buildings challenge thread, I was thinking about my very incomplete CV based on the "NASA ISX enterprise" warp ship concept, which I'd set aside because I had no idea what kind of SV would befit it's "barely know what we're doing with warp drive" level tech. Suddenly I had my inspiration... What if, in the early days of harnessing prometheum, while effective main engines capable of earth liftoff were still on the drawing board, they harnessed prometheum as a rocket fuel? With far more thrust and energy density than modern chemical rockets, prometheum rockets could have been a stepping stone to orbital construction - making heavy launches easier and possible with much less rocket overall, therefore much cheaper? Enter my NASA stylized crew transfer vehicle, rocket launched. I serially made several versions of this thing. The space use version has solar panels extended and cockpit seats facing a sane direction. I rebuilt it completely identically, but in a vertical orientation - I.e. .spacebar takes it straight up. The game forced the cockpits at an.... odd angle, but I mainly intended these versions as a prop anyway. I have vertical built variants of the capsule alone, the capsule atop a rocket (with 5 of the small jet SV thrusters), and the rocket standalone in case I want to stick something else on top. But what good is a rocket without a launchpad! ? So I build a launchpad, complete with rocket exhaust tunnels, the classic red truss tower/elevator, and my best attempt at scorch marks from previous blast-offs.
Been working on my Blockade Runner all night. I made the bridge slightly larger and added a plasma turret on each side. I put artillery turrets on each of the side docking rings and added places for rocket turrets on the top and bottom(yeah I'm completely reworking the turret placements). Then I removed the bottom window well and added hangar doors. I also joined two of the bottom engine pods in the back and made that into another hangar. I figure I'll make a big 'ol hangar bay in the middle of the ship for small SV's and HV's. Trying to figure out where else I want to put turrets or even if I want to add stuff for planetary assaults or not. I'm also thinking of converting the hull into a flying saucer design after this one is done.
Why dont you use the armored thrusters or make a round end (you know the ones that are like the slopes just caved in) on the thrusters?
Those were just placeholders. Also, I didn't realize I could right click for other options on the XL thrusters. Thanks for pointing that out!
always happy to help out and make really great designs greater XD or atleast give a little bit of inspiration XD
For my survival game I am experimenting with an hydrogen based vertical launched warp capable mobine-base-CV.
Exterior work is just about done - all that's missing is a lower access ramp for getting into the thing. Beyond that, just needs some interior design (mostly on the lower deck) and she'll be finished. Built on the Experimental branch, to take advantage of new blockshapes & light options.
I vouch for the fact that Butt Parking works. I been too busy to test Bat Parking. I'll see if I can do testing on this & see if there is indeed some kinda problem with it & if I can be of help in getting Issues with it sorted out. (My Tyrax Giant Killer is a Butt Parker. ) Ahh, so it does work for you? This include being able to Undock fine? Perhaps we could have a look see at the SV itself, especially a Screenie of the top of it? XD Ya know what would make this even better? See that Block immediately below the Front Thruster? Exchange that for a Pulse Laser or Rocket Launcher so it can serve as a long beaky Nose! To be fair that's a fairly recent change many are still trying to get used to. For the Topic: I've been Mad Empyrion Sciencing ways to 'Internalize' External-intended Jet Thrusters into a SV Design. Screw Sanity. (Or Insanity, if ya agree with me that sticking something as Huge Bullseye Target as a huge Thruster onto the outermost most vulnerable part of a SV is ludicrosity.)
What I've been working on - currently in playtesting on my server (Empyrion Exiles), The Lord of War: The one on the back is this one. (And yes i mined every bit of material to build that)
You... you mined all that...? Dang! Impressive ship. I am eager to see it when you consider it finished.
I tapped every Iron deposit on 4 maps and harvested everyday for a week. It cost 801k iron ore, because its hull is 5-7 blocks thick. Took me 4 days to build it in Creative. Gratuitous pic:
