Good suggestion. I thought I might take one of my very cheap CV's from an earlier playthrough, and spawn that. However, the current plan is to build the simplest, poverty-spec CV I can, once I've secured just a few more Sathium ingots. I have found another of the neutral POI's I could potentially dismantle, it's already looted, but pulling it apart should yield something useful. Scoob.
Bahahahahaha! IT IS TAKING OVER! You could also bring the pipes into a focused drill config. Sort of like... um... um.... I cannot find an image online - essentially make it wider in the middle but more pointed towards the drills. And that is just an idea - your ship is very awesome. Haeeeeeeeyyyy, its Mr Drilly! Nice!
Scoob, look for the BA_WeaponsBunker and the P1 Super fortress. Both are made out of Hardened and/or Combat steel. Then use it to build your own ship, or, use them to build something off of the workshop that gets you to the point of traversing to other planets. As far as straight ingots go, I usually end up raiding the freighters in orbit, and then all the POI's on both the planet and the moon; this usually yields hundreds of sathium. The only or *real* problem with this; since you have started on Masperon already, and since it is the end point from the perspective of the other difficulty arcs, there is nothing to do but start over. Also, found it hilarious that you made tea to think about things(i.e. mainly killing drones)
I'm actually right next to a P1 Fortress thing...not quite ready to raid it just yet. I have taken a couple of POI's, but they appear to be older "Hull Cube" ones, that just yield steel plates. I've still not seen a Freighter, no message when going into orbit the first time on Masperon either...just unlucky I guess. Actually, I had tea and biscuits in the end. I slummed it though, no saucer and I kept my pinky down... Scoob.
That gave me a good laugh - the "slumming it" comment. I will probably be chuckling about that for the rest of the day. With respect to the freighters - I did find them once, but I have never received a message like on other planets, so I am not sure if/when they are there - that might not be a consistent feature.
Have ya tried making a Micro Mining HV with a single Mining Drill to Mole under Bases to outright bypass the Base Turrets?
I've not, though your suggestion has merit. I can generally nerf a POI with just quad gatlings, though the effective range on Masperon makes that a little trickier. I've fitted unguided rockets that, while having the same range, can be loosed on the target allowing me to dodge, unlike the gatlings. My aim had been to improve my survivability with some armour on my little SV, especially after Steam decided to page out of my game mid-POI assault, by the time it let me page back, I was dead. I reloaded from a backup save at that point, as the death was out of my control. Scoob.
Was sounding like Resource Concerns are fierce in your game so was pondering if dodging more of the danger would be more resource friendly. Agreed, that was a definite illegit death, it totally doesn't count.
I'd usually just respawn nearby when I die, racing to recover a fallen SV/HV or even CV can be fun. However in this case, with it being caused by an odd glitch, and my resources likely not allowing me to recover that SV, I chose to reload. Scoob.
Our latest project is coming along nicely. again based off a single source image, it's now taken on a life of it's own. Spoiler: Freki - WIP still a work in progress, and if you know anything about Norse mythology and where the name Freki comes from, expect more
Played my first 5.x survival start that didn't die the first night, so yay. I've glimpsed some awesome new POI's but, they didn't save me. Didn't know the Alua natives kept monster pets.... Anyway, in this game (most settings on hard) I found the MS Titan aft section. Dug out the core and got lucky, found a T2 drill and a couple charges that helped enormously. Loot from a couple drones helped me build a core and scavenge lots of useful parts for a CV someday. But, the only other Akua POI I have spotted so far is an old Epsilon spaceport. Built a base next to the wreckage I found and now I'm pondering my next move. So far despite hard escape pod content the only resource I've mined at all was a tidy pile of magnesium. Everything else was loot, and rock from digging out the cargo boxes I the central hull of the Titan. Dare I take on the Epsilon base on foot?
Set up a flak gun sideways on a fairly tall minibase in front of the Abandoned Mine and let it blast an opening for me. 200 rounds later it had blown out the core and I dropped into the mine expecting the usual numbers of critters. Nothing. Nothing moving except for me. Only thing I can figure is that nothing spawned because I hadn't set foot on the mine before I started.
Yep, ya never stepped close enough to proximity to the Spawners before they lost Power, so they never got triggered to commence Spawning in Baddies.
Cool, except did you place it such that it did not drill through all the goodies? That would be heart-breaking to lose the two epic and the bazillion regular containers.
It felt odd to just walk into the mine and loot all of the goodies without encountering any opposition. Assaulting the mine, and dying a lot, was a rite of passage when I first started playing the game. Got both of the epics and all of the containers. I've worked on this method for a while. Mounting the flak gun as high up as possible, and sideways, just to the right of the low spot in the wall enables the gun to drill straight down to the core without damaging any of the loot. The trusty flak gun on a minibase has also become my go-to for taking out POIs - if I can arrange a clear field of fire. It seems to outrange POI defenses by just enough to enable me to safely plink away.
I wanted to know just how big a hole one drill would make, so I made this HV to test it out. Turns out, only one drill makes a pretty big hole.
Worked on a space station. Its modular and in the current configuration it could serve as a trading station. I had shown a similar station in antoher thread but wanted to divert the discussion to this thread as I thoght it would fit better. The station in the other thread was larger and I had troubles keeping it at class 3. @Frigidman thanks for your input there, I played around with the large station (almost finished, definitely keeping it) but then decided to reduce its size by a third and completely remake it. It was simply to large for a trading station. The problem with resizing was that the inside was (and still is) laid out like a shopping center and had (has) a staircase at its core that somehwat resembles an escalator starcase in a shopping center or official building. The hangar is still from the larger stattion and looks a little strange to me but I wanted to keep it large so that 30x30 SVs could land there. I took the tier 5 prefab and wanted it to be able to enter the hangar. Larger ships would have to park outside. Here is the staircase and some shops are also finished. The shops are mostly for the looks and some laughs but there are enough trading stations and ATMs to qualify for the sign "Trading Station". Holding comfortably at around 300 devices (its hard to tell) and I am optimistic that keeping at class 3 will be possible. Many areas like the command center and the cargo storage are not modelled because the player as a visitor would not be allowed there. So, why make them? At the moment the station consists of 4 or 5 different modules. I decieded to wait for a day and see if I still like the shape tomorrow beforee I irreversibly weld it together.
Pity we cannot mount more than 6 drills, you could give the craft on the right 8 and call it a spider or octopus.
