    Mate,
I hate to address the elephant in the room but it's only one perspective of playing this open game. Actually, some of it is already possible to do :) All you need is:
    • Build a BA in space called 'SHIPYARD' and mark it as home structure
    • Reach out for your friends in your steam friend list - some people you trust - to form a faction. That way you can engage in role-playing more easily, and your stuff gets protected since your faction members are trustworthy. You can always revert to code locks of devices as a last resort of course.
I agree with your feedback on factory aspect though, it would be way more better to be able to build a factory 'block' or 'device' which in turn would be responsible for construction of BPs (some assembly animation, say with your example of robotics, would be awesome).

This definitely seems to be the way they are heading. Their emphasis is very clearly on the MP experience right now and not on building a worthwhile single player experience. I know it's alpha and none of us are seeing a finished product. But at the same time I can see where we are on the roadmap by looking at what Eleon is doing and most of that revolves around multiplayer. Which is not surprising because people who play MP are forum warriors who constantly bug the devs and so naturally as squeaky wheels they get the grease.

I suppose I shall just have to squeek louder.

Please don't fall into NMS's trap. Making a random sector generator full of half-assed empty planets that are stable in MP but look dead as crap to a single player isn't going to give this game the end goal that anybody wants. Random maps alone does not make a game. You need to take some time and think about what a single player without a network connection is going to do in this game and for how long he's gonna do it. Most really cool single player things will translate just fine into MP. But all the things you cut out to make MP work better are going to leave the single player mode dead.

If you want the single player mode to be just practice for the multi player game then I agree with Xentor. Come out and say that. Come out and say that and I'll never make another post here.

I agree. I wanted to highlight this part in particular:

Minecraft is an excellent example of this.

Ok I think I can sum up my issues with the SP game with one suggestion that might start fixing a lot of things with this. It's not my suggestion, it's somebody else's really but I'm backing it. It's time to look at NPC factions for missions, trading and quests. This will aid both SP and MP experiences and add about a pound of depth where it's needed. The Xenu, the Rados, The ghosts all these people need to come alive in some way.

Some way that is in my face. Some way that kicks me upside the head and blows up ALL my toys when I leave them out and don't put them up properly.

I think NPC factions need to be worked on simultaneously with expanding player factions. The two groups should have plenty of linkages. Things that they have in common as far as the game play experience is concerned.

I am guessing this is in their plan already, but it is well worth saying, anyway ;)

I'm going to close this thread. I think it served its purpose. If you go then go, If you don't then stay but please if you have suggestions share them. I played way too many games over my lifetime and in the current state of Early Access games Empyrions one the best updated and most updated games out there. I can't wait for the future.
