Am I the only one who sees the irony in writing xaml to write into a yaml? :p

I don't code either. Which is better? Should the game have been done in xaml or should the OPs designer been done in yaml as well?

By the looks of it, this thing could be browser based as well. A whole database of planets waiting to be downloaded and created. XML and YAML are kinda different I think. IMO, the best language for projects like this is usually the one that works, or the one you want to learn.

Lets go with easy to use. Personally, I've spent time running Arma III Exile servers, Minecraft servers, Ark servers, Conan Servers, etc and I'm tired of spending the time learning how to add, manage, or create things. My empryion server is unchanged. I use it for testing and building blueprints. For once I would like to not have to learn how to go through lines of code or whatever to run a server. A simple to use tool to create planets and things would be great.

AWESOME WORK!!! Manually editing the YAML files is problematic at best. Can't wait to see a releasable version. I would also like to offer myself as a tester. There is nothing self serving in that offer Wink wink nudge nudge :)

I've made more than a few planets by hand at this point and I love this idea. It would massively speed up the process :) I would also consider throwing a tip out there if you had a donate button.

While I'm not a coder, I have learned a lot about how the planet YAML files tend to work so if I can help at all on that front feel free to PM me.

Yes, XLM and YAML are very different. YAML is a superset of JSON.

...two steps forward, one step back...

Development is going slow, but steady.

    Update since last time:
    • first iteration of BiomeDesigner mostly working. Bear in mind though, that this is only first TestView for feature testing.
I generally dislike like the idea of having multiple levels of editor windows, as it is absolutely not userfriendly, so there might/will be a lot of changes/updates to UI in the future. This is simply the automatic generated visual output of PropertyParser iterating through Playfield Class structure. It is planned, that the Biome Designer gets it's own Module, not just the standard List/Scalar Value/Range Modules, as it is right now.
    • IN the Screenshot ther'es a teaser of ItemSelector with Preview Images (FeatureTest at the moment) for Decorations/Grass, ...
Should make choosing of the right deco easy.
    • Code internally changes:
      sqlite code adapted
replaced some DataTypes, generated new ones
      cleaned up/optimized
    Next Steps/TODO:
    • Finishing up BiomeDesigner Logic and cleaning up code
    • Implementation of Creature/Drones/POIs Editor/AutomationLogic
    • FeatureTesting/BugFixing

Teaser of AutoGenerated BiomeDesigner (prealpha) and ItemsSelector:

    upload_2017-2-25_19-14-3.png

So it's still A LOT!!! of work to do till first pre-alpha release, but it's all coming together piece by piece really nicely till now. :D

So, please be patient, you will be the first ones to test anyway. :D

No, there's no released version yet, because there's still some essential editing functionality/UI missing and/or malfunctioning and generally it's still under heavy reconstruction. So a release to public doesn't make any sense at the moment.

As soon as the first prealpha version is out, you will be informed here of course. :D

Fantastic. Much nicer than going through the text file. Keep it up, this could be a major go-to editor for the community!!

jmcburn is doing a really great job here, and has achieved more then we had seen from any other playfield designer project. Thanks so much!

As mentioned already here: This project will get extra support from now on.
The "Emp Playfield Generator" from us will eventually also be implemented into this one.
By the new support we hope to keep this project alive and give it some more help to get it out.
As the voice of the community says..... we really need such a tool. Thanks to jmcburn!
