Agree 100% that it looks silly, but it is preparing me for the hopfully bigger 'roids. Would also be cool to have more ores in space.
I have started a new project, trying to build a large CV in Survival. There are a number of very large CV's available, but I wondered if you could build one in survival with just the resources from one planet, and how long it would take.
I build all my ships in survival. There is no one planet with all ore types so you have to visit more than one to complete it.
It's not a pipey sort of building! But I would like to incorporate more sci fi elements. The beams connecting to the central tower were a start but I feel like I need more.
I do have a freight warehouse type area if that helps? Landing pad #4. Instead of pipes I'm going to have skylights. Skylights everywhere. Adding them as we speak. Still need to figure out a way to jazz up the entryway porch overhangs more and the curved parts of the outer ring though.
Oh do I ever wish this were possible. Though I might have a bit of trouble with the government/landowners if I started setting up autominers wherever I found ore to mine to provide resources for he repair bay to draw upon. But yeah, I've always been in IT, even before I graduated from high school (junior high to be accurate) I was fixing computers for remuneration, and I learned early on about the value of a UPS because we lived in an area fraught with storms and power problems.
This is my shipyards creative save. I keep framing ship concepts and discarding them. Getting kinda littered. This is me trying to build my first truly large ship and being repeatedly dissatisfied. Kills me, I personally can't stand a "bumpy" voxel hull (ddiscounting intended greeble) which limits me to working with 90 and 45 degree angles only. So many ship concepts rely on such shallow slants I hate how they come out in-game. I want to play, but I want to know what ship I'm building toward first. Drat that hyper critical voice in my head. Why can't i be like everyone else, shrug and build boxy ships, else find a workshop ship I like?
you do have the 2:1 slope as well don't forget and don't go for boxes, just take the shapes you have and embellish - surfaces on surfaces, lines to break up the flatness etc. I'm teaching my Grandma to suck eggs here, you know how to fix it
The adventures of COP have resumed under POS, Pirates of Survival on Bugs-Expanding-Universe server. The server has a hard limit of class 5 for CV's wanting to venture into PVP area's. We outfitted The Liberty, and took her out on her maiden voyage. We came across a space POI and an armada of freighters. We decided to risk taking them out in PVP space. Fair warning, Moto was on meds for an ailment and ends up as foul mouthed as any pirate...
Hello from the EXPERIMENTAL 6.0. May I present you the first prototype of POLARIS SPACE INDUSTRIES SENTINEL-class corvette. Armed with ALL turrets that work in atmosphere - pretty much all more or less capable firing towards forward arc. Yes, its pea-shooters - but with enough of them its still some serious firepower! Yeah, there are even the sentry guns... Made from hardened steel, is quite fast, can warp, has roughly 35min fly time in atmosphere (Omicron) ( Would be about twice that but lets just say there's some fuel issues in 6.0 experimental currently ; ) - and has the most basic necessities inside. Not much room left but still has a HV hangar and SV landing pad on the back. First field test prototype of PSI SENTINEL-class corvette. Been doing simple things with switches - finally I can close those ramps with a click of a switch! No need for jump-pack acrobatics. Also in the bridge I have switches for landing gear (ramps, again), turrets and thrusters. Thats just a basic stuff, Im waiting the smart guys to do something really clever with these. Im gonna go and hunt some ALIEN PATROL VESSEL, wish me luck!
Rainy, you are an awesome person, who ever you are. You are "One of those smart" people, and I am curious to see your inventiveness with the new mechanics. Tell me, how have you balanced the temps? With the Rads? Most of the designs on the workshop that are more compact or have people walking past warp drives and such are now obsolete. How is the interior to this ship? I ask because you are one of those very gifted designers, I would like to see your solutions.
Wow, thanks! Im just ... me. Normal guy from Finland. Im still playing around as things are not yet finalized - so the insides need fine tuning. And it is crowded, I can tell you that honestly. I wanted a little U boat vibe to it - but its probably tiny bit more crowded than I wanted... not much room for deco stuff & pipes ... But the basic groundwork is there - warp drive is in the front - so you don't need to see it (unless you specifically go and see it). That was pretty much my starting point - so that it fits. Or actually it was the cannon setup. But anyway. Even if I envision this mostly as a non-warp capable ship but still, nice to have that option. Center of the ship is laid down with fuel tanks & ammo boxes in a row (with some spacing) - on two different floors. All the thrusters are in the side sponsons - as are generators - so heat shouldn't be issue. Generators are accessible (if you for some reason need to access them) - but far enough embedded so they shouldn't cause problems. But what is causing problems is current Experimental build - with the oxygenisation working (or not working) bit randomly - so Im holding on until starting to work on the insides properly. No pics yet as its too much wip inside. Outside is roughly there minus the details & textures etc. Will be on Workshop once 6.0 is officially out and I can do a proper version. Shot one freighter down in Masperon space. Lets see if they have Patol Vessels...
Well, that was pretty epic! Sure, SV is most likely the correct way to go - but I dare to say this was lot cooler Attack! Drive by shooting. Chasing down the wounded prey. Victorious! As long as you kept moving you were fine. Sure, you take some hits. But I have heavily armoured nose section it can take a beating. Many turrets took few % of damage (well sentry guns little bit more) but none of them got destroyed. About those cannon & gatling pea-shooters... okay, they sure lack some punch. But it just makes the fun last longer But I wasn't optimizing my shots, I was dividing them between thrusters & turrets.
The evolution of a Spaceport. I've made some modifications here and there to reinforce structural integrity. Technically they shouldn't be needed but over engineering it a bit doesn't hurt. SI is still giving me fits though. I spawned the structure in on the planet to do some testing on the SI after modifying the central tower but it was showing a lot of red even in areas that are in direct contact with the ground. I added another layer of blocks underneath just to force it to update the SI but I still can't be entirely sure it's accurate. At least the building didn't collapse immediately when I spawned it so I have that going for me which is nice. Might need to reinforce the central tower a bit. That new rectangular level on the central tower is showing too much red in the corners for some reason. It's not that far off the structural support columns. Spoiler
I made the original Juggernaut in survival. Built it at my base. Made a large long platform with a ton of concrete. Climbed on it to work, used the drone. I had never visited creative at that point. (and in some ways I wish I hadn't. A LOT more testing gets done when one builds in survival).
@Kyrt Malthorn It's shaping up. Just keep at it with patience. The build does not have to get done over night. Part of the fun of Empyrion is the journey in making a new ship. I start most ships thinking they are junk, but I know that's just because I have not done enough to it to visually comprehend the look of it yet. I think your ship is shaping up nicely. It was interesting to see your first pic and this one. We have completely different approaches to making the outside shape. I wish I could do it like you do. I just start laying down blocks and figure it out as I go. I think your method is better. I can patiently wait to see the final
