Okay, my fellow players, I need a clue. With over 500 hours of play time, there is something commonly done in game that am not smart enough to figure out. I hang my head in shame, and offer myself up for public ridicule. I also humbly beg an answer. How do I take over one of the alien POIs? In a recent playing I was able to come to a POI (Large residence) that was freshly minted and it was all mine! I used my explosive charges to destroy the core. The base was otherwise undamaged. I then crafted a base starter block. However, I was not allowed to place it. So nothing I could do would take over the place. A "core" cannot be crafted separately, just the base starter block. So I am at a loss here. What is the trick?
I could have sworn we could craft cores? It's not in the tech tree anywhere? Maybe need an Advanced Constructor?
It can happen to anyone. Earlier on I tried with might and main to shoehorn a CV starter block into one of the sections of the Titan. I mean, it was a CV - right?
Did you get it figured out? It's the distinction between a core (device) from the starter blocks (in the blocks section, which all contain a core, and are made with one). Sausage sounds good, where is this island?
I am at work so I have not tried it. But now that makes sense. What I am still surprised to read is that a survival constructor can make a core. I now have a clue, and will try it later.
The survival constructor's vital function when using "Hard" starting equipment - no core, gotta find or make one. Lotsa computers.

Been working on my fleet of SV's and HV's that I intend to use in 6.0. I like survival building but might as well spent this time wisely - especially as the drones are currently out of order. I have lvl 5 starter HV, lvl 10 light assault HV, lvl 7 starter SV, lvl 12 multipurpose SV and lvl 15 POI buster/fighter. Might do some lvl 20 super heavy stuff - but might as well work on those in survival too when the time comes. The lvl 12 multipurpose SV I actually built pre 6.0 in survival. So it needed little bit adapting. As you might or might not know - in 6.0 experimental you (currently) need atleast two EVA boosters in order to able to survive in space. Sometimes you find them right away, sometimes they are nowhere to be found. So its super useful ability to have an SV where you can launch a drone while staying inside the warm and safe SV yourself. With this SV it didn't quite work, too much stuff above the door on the outside. I would have needed drastically change the design in order to make it work. But I got it working with the use of ramps - without altering the design itself too much. Here's my setup: Sadly ramps themselves are not airtight so needed to use shutter doors too to make the vessel secure. "Drone Launch Port" open. It works! Outside view of the 'Drone Launch Port' closed. It blends in quite well. Next I have to work on some CV's.
Took on (and down) Thermica Station in the Falcon (survival-made heavy Fighter). Took some hits but a repair bay in the Valkyrie (survival-made CV my first ) took care of that. Beast of a time finding the core... good thing I had ~1500 rockets eh?
