Packing everything into a small space can be quite a challenge. I have a few ship designs where I surprised myself when I managed to pull it off. I hate to tell you this, that's too close to the warp core. The captain is going to roast.
Nice designs guys! Finally you can see the power of the small ;-) haha ;-) You know my Home-One, tested through dozends of survival-game hours on planet, through asteroid mining and moon landing. For early and mid game the best you can do, build a small Survival-CV, you're mobil, have anything you need, and can take anything you have with you all the time! @Kassonnade : THAT are Values I want to see on a ship!!! 39m/s²!!! WOAAAA!!! ;-) Besides my never-ending-story-project, the uber-fighter haha, I'm still in the need for an endgame survival base ship. Now I've taken one from the workshop which I customised a bit (here the original link) - that's what I would call a mobile base ship. But still... not yet... let's see after some more survival experience with that ship... it's not yet....
For todays project I have been overhauling the Condor, tearing sections apart and rebuilding them to see how the change looks. I have managed to expand the cargo bay, and was able to add two more 9x grow pot grids. I know that the hangar doors are upside down, that's intentional. The ship has dual hangar doors in case one of them gets blown away. I think the expanded rear end is ok, and I am still able to mount one of every turret on the ship. I moved the forward guns and added a windowed cockpit, I kept the previous bridge behind it. I separated the two bridges with rolling shutters, tasked to a switch. But there is a problem I want to solve before posting the update. The rolling shutters between the main bridge and the battle bridge will open/close using the switch. But when you walk through them, they automatically close. I want to kill the automatic open/close and have them only open/close when the switch is thrown. Anyone know how to make that happen?
That's sadly a standard behavior still tied in the shutters and ramps.... Many posts seen about that on the suggestions/even bugs section...
I was afraid of that. Regular doors are too small for the purpose, ramps/folding blocks do not have a force field, and the hanger door is too big. For giggles, here is the forward bridge. Battle bridge with the blast doors open. Battle bridge with the blast doors closed. Here is what happened when I tried to use a hanger door.
I haven't played much lately. I got a little burned out working on the space station. Still dragging my feet on updating all my blueprints. Some need more work than others. Found one of Pyston's ships on one of my saved games and blueprinted it immediately.
I've got a copy of earthshine I'll be using for inspiration @Siege Inc. Yeah, the creative juices aren't really flowing well right now for us either, I tried playing with that horizontal idea, might have something, but it's going to take a while to crystallise properly. We still have so much to do in the main shipyard as well lol.
Yeah I managed to get my hands on a copy of Earthshine as well as a couple other things. Very happy to have any of his work. Brilliant stuff. More will probably turn up on the workshop over time. I've been looking at his stuff and yours and then looking at the interiors of my stuff and finding it.....lacking. Need to recalibrate my creativity settings! lol That video spotlight of Sleipnir was good stuff.
I know the feeling when it comes to the update blues. I only have 53 items in the workshop, but you have 83, so it's going to be a grind.
Yeah it's sad that he left so angry and burnt his bridges behind him completely... I have three ships saved - thanks god - but really hoped for the class 4 earthshine ship (starshine?)... sadly... not happen in the near future...
@Fluffy, @Siege Inc., know how you feel. I didn't want to build anything. Turned out that I didn't want to build anything that looked like all of the other things I'd built. I was . Frejd and the above Big Wheel are a way of just having some fun and stretching my imagination.
It's not the building so much as the texturing and painting and to a lesser extent decorating that I'm not enthused about lately. And with regards to updating blueprints it's the screenshot updates that make me drag my feet the most.
Well building a small CV is just more of a fun project for me. I just wanted to see could I do it and I'm still trying to work on some designs. I think I will always be bias towards the big war class ships that are like 200m or more long. .. I am going to end up using my first design to create a bigger ship and start all over again trying to build a smaller Cv. In survival I usually fly around the prefab ships until I can get one of my monster ships built. Smaller CVs are fun to fly but nothing beats the feeling I get when I am on the bridge of a large CV and going to take out a base. It gives me that SCI FI movie feeling.
Here is a small CV with "dogfighting" abilities. The only devices not present are the advanced constructor, repair block and a bed (it has a shower and a toilet). The constructor can be "tacked" anywhere outside when I need something I did not take care to pack in a crate before battle, and for the bed... I can make mattresses out of my enemies... I can land one of my tiny SVs on top under the artillery turret, I only need to design some sort of protective wall just behind the minigun / cannon turrets. The spotlight in front is "doubled" with an upside-down window inside the cockpit to prevent depressurization if the spot gets hit... 25 hp is not much for this thing though... And for the "purists", all thrusters are exposed and "venting out". Not too crampy in the interior given the small size... My favorite screenshot : It is quite nimble, but some values there make no sense (334 deg. roll... lol). Typical power usage while moving on 3 axis at the same time (ex. up-right-forward) is 39% with the lights on.
I cringed when he walked into the main decks (and steerage, and the service tunnel) and the lights didn't come on Also noticed a lot of sloppy texture and paint work on the insides, where we didn't properly check things after repainting it. loads to do to tidy up and make it more consistent with the fleet look.
You should do a HV version of this and make it small enough to where it looks like your character is riding it . lol
