Wheres my replicator? Why are we not cloning biomass and converting it the molecular equivalence of our preferred foodstuff? There should be hundreds of menu items available all with variable effects based on things like current health, hunger level, temps, etc Make three base units available BioMeat BioSoy and spice. Spice becomes the rare ingredient that by using in combination with the other two ingredients will provide the effects. The survivor can eat plants from the planet's surface once deeming them safe. Yet strives to construct bio tanks for food growth and processors for its production. The Tanks would be most susceptible to temperature and power changes. Food stuff production should be large. CV, BA the actual preparation could be done remotely using tanks of the base units. Bio production would begin by preparing the tank with nutrient, algae, and the proposed biomass. IE hunks of meat, bundles of veg, After incubation/fermentation the tanks can be drained daily of an amount equaling the original recipe multiplied by the number of cubes of the tank. IE one two or three. Basically, a three cube tank would be filled with 10 units each nutrient, biomass, algae and would produce 90 unit per day. you would fuel the tank with nutrient after emptying and of course lose it if you got too hot, too cold, or lost power. The spices would be fun. Certain things grow in certain places and each spice has its own attributes. used in conjunction with the different food base units to provide definite advantages for the period of time that food is active. Pick up the pace? there's a spice that makes you walk faster, got a long way to go? A spice that keeps your stamina up while you run. Eat too much? You gonna slow down loose stamina faster. Eat too little you gonna find it hard to concentrate everything takes a little longer. Stars the limit.
Now with 4 'thing' from one plot that we can find in public POIs (and with some more edible/medicinal plants added around planets) you Devs need to add ASAP basic food preparation/recipes for safe consuming, especially to our Survival Constructor! It is kinda stupid to eat raw corn, fruits, etc. Early survival gameplay is now becoming real part of the game (especially on hard difficulty) and we need some improvements, and some logic, on basic food/medicine front - for example ATM you use 4 raw corn for 1 popcorn that has 50 food point, but if you eat 1 raw corn - it is 40 food points ... and people basically can't eat raw corn This basic things needs to be prepared in 1 to 1 ratio, like 1 raw corn to 1 boiled corn (or your 'popcorn' with 40 food points and 0 health, and from 4 raw corn we can make 'cornbread' with 100 food points 30 health points, or 1 fruit (+ 1 water bottle) to 1 juice, and some of the wild plants we find around - few of them we could cook in sur. constructor, like everyones favorite 'corndog' ... this 'basic' things don't need to have high value, 30-50 points are more than enough. Fix a bit food stuff for Alpha 7, mostly basic recipes and some special advanced 'spacey' things - tonics, mixed drinks, gooey paste, edible drugs etc. For me all the current food/meals we make are OK in this stage of game development - for some big 'beta' food system overhaul you have a lot of detailed suggestions around forum to pick and combine with your ideas (and separate finally making food from making medicine )
Instead of just a hunger bar, perhaps there could be a whole nutrition system with different measures. Fail to consume enough iron (meat, etc), and over time you become anemic and your stamina depletes quicker. Go too long without vitamin C and you get Scurvy. At least that would make space oranges useful finally.
Not sure if the Dev is going to be up to developing a whole new system. But if they were a calorie counter would be great.
So you basically want non-magic alchemy? Fuck yes, just another awesome RPG aspect that would directly relate to the survival aspect of the game. I'm hoping we get some more attributes- like shooting, running, etc, but instead of just an RPG stat, do something brand new and make it so your gun becomes more stable as you level up and learn to use it better. You could still create sharpshooter drugs/potions. Kind of like Adderall or something (don't call it that obviously). We already have stamina boosts, so this is sort of implemented, I'd just love to see more of it. And I really hope we get different/changeable backpacks. Like a medic bag for all you medic supplies that doesn't take up all your backpack space.
Huh... I never thought of Adrenaline Shots as Drugs... now i'm gonna have to seriously consider never Crafting my Kavae Coffee into it.
And what do you think anti-dote injections, anti-dote pills, or "energy pills"" are, herbal supplements?
These would have to be SUPER longterm effects, like several months, so they are an after thought, like getting your oil changed. Maybe a reason to grow an orange trees. Also, it would, and seem kind of necessary, to be able to breed an farm animals. But to make feeding and watering them work (if you want so much realism you actually want to feed them we're not on the same page) you would build a hatchery/den where animals would spawn from, and presumably eat. Then you could murder them at convenient intervals for all you meatsickle needs.
Hah, I do kind of like where this is going. Maybe bring a Rimworld-like farming concept into the game. Except they're might want to fix the the issue with unseated passengers clipping through moving ships before they turn us all loose to build arks, etc.
I figured Antidote Pills & Injections are Medicine, which is the Light Side of the Drug Force. It's the Dark Side Drugs I hate. Energy Pills... imho are just plain a bad idea to ingest raw.
Remember Heroin was a "safe alternative" to morphine, which was a derivative of opium. cocaine is related to lidocaine, and novacaine. Oxycontin, Dilauded and other painkillers are the reason for the opioid epidemic. Anyway, not to get off track here, but most "medicines" are drugs. Viagra was originally invented as a blood pressure medication, which probably had the opposite effect after you see a curtain blow the wrong way and ending up with a.... well you get it On a side note, I agree with you about hard drugs. That isn't what I meant, but unfortunately that's pretty much the only way to explain an "adrenaline boost". I took Di-lauded for 3 months straight after my screwed up heart surgery a few years ago, and I am lucky I walked away from it. A lot of people don't. Especially the IV form. Imagine the worst pain you can be in (having your back muscles cut to the spine from armpit to armpit) which is so unbearable you can't even speak, move or do anything but cry- and then they stick a needle in you and this warm, fuzzy feeling comes over your entire body and you fall asleep in 30 seconds. I feel bad for people that get addicted, but I am thankful for it, I can't imagine how people dealt with that pain a few hundred years ago.
I see it as the diff between Medicine & Drugs is how well it can be used to help vs how bad for ya it can be. Stuff that causes Addiction can be a real threat. In that regard I mighta kinda over-reacted towards the Adrenaline Shots. >_< I just plain don't have an easy time thinking about the subject itself since the Bad Drugs (Heroin in particular..) cost me my RL Elder Brother years ago.
I'd really like to see the food system fleshed out a bit. Or actually a lot! A specific thought I had would incetivize freshly prepared meals over canned meals and bagged meals. Perhaps a very small health regen (5/10/15 HP per hour) when only consuming a specified amount of fresh food. (And this could lead to a lot more customization and incentives) And there was some mention of livestock. A big +1 to raptor breeding!
Raptor Breeding for Racing & guarding Livestock, & Lizard Mule raising so I can get Mule Milk without having to kill the poor dudes. I can always get my Meat from all those jerkwad hostiles out & about, like Arachnids, Spiders, & such.
Games often use a fairly simple format for the ingredients>results for features like our food processors. If that's the case with EGS then adding recipes is trivial if you have access to the recipe file. It would need some safeguards to keep it from being OP. I would find it difficult at times to resist the urge to create a health bar made from wood planks that required no refrigeration and gave me 1000 points of health and stamina when consumed.
