Gotta be honest, it kinda makes me sad to see the DaVinci getting the **** blasted out of it. It was never intended to be a PV.
I've been working on Wyvern all morning I'm doing each area as I go, and I finished up the docking bays. This area can't have a lot of light. This docking bay is near the bow and there's a landing pad above--you can drop down through the holes and access cargo boxes (temporary storage). I like the shadows in the docking bays area. Finally, I entered the ship! I'm working on the hangars now, and I've made some good progress in the HV hangar. I'll add lights and things when I work on it next!
The Eagle 5 is gettin' an upgrade. I can't take all the credit though. I cribbed a bunch of ideas from Yuushi who did some fantastic work. Of course I had to put my own spin on it so they're not exactly alike. Old 'n Busted New Hotness I still need to add thrusters and a few other sundries but finally it will face the right direction and the compass won't be all screwed up. Edit: It's done and posted to my workshop.
Well if it makes you feel better DaVinci destroyed my hangar doors, destroyed my new HV that I was building and killed my plants. It's a beautiful ship. I was inside my little hangar quietly building a new HV when I heard something shooting at my ship and I thought it was just a drone so I thought my mini gun turrets would take it out well then I saw my hangar door get blown out and realized something a lot bigger than a drone was looking at me and shooting. lol
Understandable. Think of it this way, Da Vinci lives on with every new game. As a PV Da Vinci provided one of those "Holy ****! What was THAT?" moments and those things are golden. Any start other than Akua is spiced up immensely by her presence.
One of my favorite movies of all time. Why hasn't anyone built MegaMaid yet?? LOL This would be a cool CV to see flying on a multiplayer server
Yes. "Inset" means that the Thruster is neatly inserted into the Hull but still exausts into Space instead of fully hidden, whereas Cheese Fully Buried Thrusters, I would refer to as "Cheese Thrusters" or "Internal Thrusters". I still wonder if someday the Devs may Intro Alien Tech that can enable things like having Propulsion Devices akin to the likes of Star Trek's Impulse Drive... or maybe "Blink Drives" that act like Overwatch's Tracer's "Blink" Ability, or such. (Or dare I say it? Maybe even something that could enable Ships to do something comparable to Overwatch's Tracer's "Recall" Ability?) Also, if ya place your Core in such a place in your Build that in a standard engagement Sentry Turrets firing at the Core auto-magically don't happen to catch your Cockpit in the LoS, the HV will gain a noticeably bigger boost to Survivability. The Devs have a sick sense of humor... giving an Artist Weapons then sending it off to War... So... you're saying the Artist with Weapons sounded like a mere Drone... yeah, i'm sure that'll make Kieve feel WAY better about all this. /sarcasm XD For the Topic: Having a bugger of a time working on pathing between my Hangar & the ground for HV Loading & Unloading... sometimes it feels like even the biggest size Ramp we got atm is just not big enough... i've heard of Ramp Doors being Suggested being added to the game, & if huge versions of those that'd be a really big door for even huge Hover War Tanks able to fit through AND doubling as a much bigger Ramp then what's available atm at the same time could get added to the game, I think i'd really love that. Also a CV equivalent of Docking Pads...
impulse engines and a blink drive?!?! Don't tease me like that. lol I would stop playing every single game I'm playing right now and play Empyrion only if the devs added those things in. Alien tech in Empyrion? With different types of engines?? That would be like Xmas for builders. Well I guess I'm so used to drones shooting at my ship I didn't think nothing of it. Until it destroyed my hangar door and I saw this giant PV hovering .. The Artists packs a punch. lol I'm still replacing stuff inside my hangar.
Switched to experimental and viewed some of my ships, new and old, with the new hull textures (and SHINY!!!!). My old favorite finished ships look good again! I'll finally have the gumption to update them for 6.0 without being discouraged they look like painted cardboard or something. So yes, happy! Back to stable build for now though. I can do the updates in stable and glee when my ships are magically made awesome with an update. You know? I should play more of this game. I love building things.
I agree. A lot of ships that would normally not look good in this game are going to look great with these textures. They do get you in the mood for building.
Hey all, Didn't have much time today, but I did finally leave Akua after doing one final raid of my AMiD's and other deployables. I decided to head to Skillon and, after entering orbit, took my small SV for a quick look around. Encountered two different Freighters, though I suspect one spawned after the other had left the system, as well as a hostile drone-launching station. A mapped out a couple of resource asteroids - I must have missed several - and returned to my CV. Considering the various hostiles in the area I started uprating my CV's defences by adding six Flak Turrets. Nice. I also got the building bug again, so I've added an entire new deck above the Generator / Fuel Tank area. It's going to be a medical / observation area and I've added Ramp blocks as window shutters. It originally had a full glass ceiling too, with lever-controlled shutters on the outside of the glass. It looked great but sadly the Shutter Doors were proximity triggered by me and not just by the levers, it sorta broke what I was trying to achieve. In the end I made a solid roof. Shame. No screens at this time, I'll get on that tomorrow, it's late now. However, by request of @Jacoviz, I'm uploading one of my Blueprints for a small, Mining HV. It's called "Drillhard" which was a bit of a joke based on me upgrading my original, rather old design to have Hardened Steel and a, then very new, Drill Turret. It's fairly nimble, and has two turret placements on which this version has a Minigun and Rocket Turret. Should be able to defend its self out mining. Of course anyone is free to try out this daft little HV effort of mine, I quite like it, spawning it in every game eventually Edit: Ooo, it's quite a bit later than I thought and another day has ticked over. Somewhat more significant than usual, Happy Birthday to me lol. Scoob.
Yeah, easier done if I built big. But, unlike @Fractalite my mind is always thinking of the loner or the single player. I don't like huge ships, I tend to get lost easy . . . especially when my mind seems to be regularly in creative mode and I start thinking how to improve a ship. Don't get me wrong on the huge ships, there are some really IMPRESSIVE builds out there, like Particular's version of The Mining Hulk from EVE Online ( http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1108664057 ) @150 Blocks long it's size is impressive, but what sets it apart is the decoration detail he put into the Hull. I Myself like to build Small/Medium & Practical for 1 or 3 players. Yeah, I did that a couple times . . . here's the result of one build (Packed it all into the Aft . . .) @Starwing6 I tried that assault a few times in a POS-SV/POS-HV with similar results . . . on the last few attempts. First ones didn't go well for me or my POS. @rucky I may try that size of design as an internal Base Assault Craft . . . Problem will be balance with the gun out front. I'd use Rockets but the Splash Damage wuld be the end of the experiment. Oh, WOW, great job on the next version of the Drone Hunter. @Darkscis Impressive Looking Ship, Can't wait to have an upclose look at it. Hurry up and upload it so I can. @Fractalite I have a couple small Flat-Back CVs I can upload as "Friends Only" if you need further inspiration. The biggest problem with building Small, Is getting the necessities in without cooking you or if you add seats, your passengers. Also, you can look at my Lil Skipper Series. Anubis looks great, I like it . . And Apache . . . WOW! Hmmm, Maybe take a page from your own book and go A-Symmetrical. Warp, etc on one side, Cockpit, Hanger, etc on the other. @Faith OMG!! WOW! I love that design. @Wild_XIII Good looking ship, Love it. @hound I love the "Trailer Park" look of that building. Makes me feel like firing up the BBQ. Love that little CV as well. Reminds me of my Lil Skipper. @rainyday Love that little Hovercraft HV. Been few days since I visited this section of the Forum, can ya tell? Over 10 pages to go through . . . Myself, just been busy tinkering . . . tried to play a single player game, but ended up tinkering again . . .
@JDaremo Fireheart Here we go, I present Lillith. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1115595099
Damn. You. This thing has been giving me headaches for the last two nights, and likely tomorrow as well. So far, the hardest part has been designing a cockpit/bridge area I was actually happy with. I kept tearing out and rebuilding everything past the second gray ridge, but I think at long last, I have a setup I can keep. The other trick, of course, is staying within the ridiculously tight parameters you set - it's heartbreaking for me to sacrifice performance intentionally to keep everything at '1 small thruster' in each direction. Fighting the urge to install additional RCS and thrusters is proving a challenge all its own! ...also, I don't have a name for it yet.
