I updated the Argos again @Fluffy. Changes were uploaded to the workshop. Sorry about the frequent updates but I've been getting a lot of good feedback from the players.

Not quite. I am working on the largest reasonably Useful structure I can make. It will have a few innovations I picked up from the workshop. Nothing spectacular, just useful. It is about 20 blocks short of max width x length, for planned edge weapon mounts and the like. The Landing pad is 458m x 458m though.

For your question, both fuel and O2 tanks can explode when damaged. So you want to keep them away from the core. Considering the size of the ship I see no issues with the current configuration.

I did not roast myself in the cabin and the cabin maintains O2 pressure. Flight response is good.
Verified 94% generator usage during atmospheric flight, but 94% is over the challenge limit of 90%.

I have found that ship performance is not too negativily effected if you remove one of the two side thrusters (from each side). It would get the power usage down. I have also found that gravity helps with downward thrust on planets and usually only use one top thruster.

    Not part of the challenge...
I like how you use thin block around the thrusters to make is look like they are ducted. very good block & texture work
All thrusters and spotlights are exposed, making the ship believable from a role-playing standpoint.
However, also from a role-playing standpoint, walking over the stove?

The glass was more of a suggestion, but the different colored panes can be distracting.

I know the feeling, I do not get much feedback but when I get to tweaking, a creation can undergo radical changes many, many times.

The max I can get the generators to go is 81% during flight, cabin is still safe.

Looks like you added access to engineering, but for the challenge I would recommend some sort of warning before you go in. Even if it's just the "do not enter" symbol from the texture gun.

Fixed the block, got the reactors down to cap at 79% in Omi... and fixed the glass. Touched up some of the paintwork too and added some decals.

Updated BP to the workshop. Enjoy :D

I did add some hazard striping inside the doorway area. If they get a little cooked well, the med bay is right there.

My bad, sorry. I was thinking of later in the thread where 94% seemed like the target, doh!
Followed your suggestions and removed one thruster from Descent/Left/Right. Should meet power criteria now (78-ish%?).
Cut the overall length down by one block.
Added Armored Glass to protect pilot & RCS if Shutters fail. Had to swap Clone to right side since pilot exits on the left.
Food Processor is sideways to allow access to sm Ammo box. Yeah, walking over food prep area isn't a good idea... Wanted to keep food bits readily accessible, and I think for the clone chamber to work it needs open space? Any ideas for better placement would be welcome!
Thanks for the feedback & kind words :).

Made a new workshop item (A20v2), others untouched. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1229806285

Good work, it passes the challenge now. Since it's only 680 tonnes you still have a lot or room to play around with too.
That yellow orb in the back where you used to have a thruster is also a nice touch.

I have been keeping myself off the experimental branch so everyone can use my save file, it seems that your new blueprint is using something that does not exist in the public branch and I cannot spawn it.

Apologies. Think the light style I used for bay isn't yet in Stable. Changed it for older fixture & updated workshop (I think, 1st time so..?).

I still cannot spawn it, don't worry, once the public release catches up to the experimental branch I will take a look at it.

I think I will wait for 7.5 to go live so I can spawn @StyleBBQ 's ship and give everyone a week to tweak their designs with all the goodies 7.5 brings before calling it.

I have also created a collection for the ships that successfully completed the challenge.

Also, please let me know if you believe my ship failed, and why.

@Fluffy , just in case; please don't hold up the judging just for me! I'm having a lot of fun w your challenge, but I'm not even on the same playing field as you & most of these guys :). Just having a 'reason' to build new ships and getting some feedback/suggestions is more than enough!

That said...:) I just finished (mostly, not happy with the paint job) this bigger guy B20v1. Much more in line w the mobile base concept.
Actually Warp capable and though unlocks at Level-10, has an Advanced Constructor (I think this changed in 7.5, weren't these lvl12 before?).
Apologies in advance if non-spawnable in Stable.

I like small CV's and I love this challenge. :D Nice entries, too!

    A suggestion, though:

Perhaps another time you could have a similar Challenge to make a starter CV that can have a max of 1 Large Generator (or similar restriction), but it must have a hangar large enough to fit a certain HV and a certain SV? I'd be very interested in CVs like that, anyway.

hmm, getting kinda pissed off at the redlining requirement. it gives a max of 5 active small thrusters. so, if i try to do a 'thrust stable' config of 3 bottom thrusters, i can't do 2 back +1 side without hitting 97%. i have to give up thrust stable or go down to 1 back. geh

    ...oh well...!

The emphasis with this design is firstly on having a spacious hangar bay, to make it easy to use, embark, and disembark SVs and HVs of up to moderate size. The initial version was designed purely as an early game utility vehicle for playing cooperatively with other players. Thus, the main cabin contains most necessary interaction objects in close proximity as well as numerous player seats. No Power Coils are necessary for this design.

Another emphasis of this design is on disaster survivability. The front half of the ship is bulky and able to absorb a moderate amount of damage even given the Steel Block construction, protecting the main cabin and hangar bay from destruction.

Turret coverage is decent in most directions except on the lower arc. Two sentry guns are located on the lower hull for attacking wildlife. A glass 'debarkation shelter' is designed to allow players to drop down out of the ship without being immediately assaulted by wildlife. The shelter often takes damage from routine operation but it is purely a convenience feature.

Note: There is no gravity generator! This is first and foremost a planetary landing craft. Clear lines of travel make it possible to get around in Zero-G without too much cursing - an unfortunate lesson from earlier usage of the design :)

This challenge is neat, I had a lot of fun with it. It took me a long time to find a workable and halfway-decent-looking solution to the cooked/nuked pilot issue presented by the gravity gen and warp tank in particular. Here's my entry :)

It reaches 81% generator usage in flight on Omicron, with 10 total small thrusters (1 each L/R, 2 all others). Weighs 691 tons, and requires Level 10 to spawn.

Has a switch in the cockpit named Flight Power Mode which turns off most lights, the constructor, the food processor, and the gravity generator. This can save a small amount of power when in flight, but is not necessary to prevent redlining.

    All interactables are accessible:
    - All cargo boxes and the ammo box are easily and obviously accessible.
    - The fuel tanks are accessible from the top of the stairs to the garden level - just move up and back enough that the tank's railing doesn't get in the way. One could always murder that railing if it really got annoying.
    - The oxygen is easily accessible from the cooking area.

I built it with expansion in mind, so there's room for 4 more thrusters already marked out with blocks, and the trusses behind the thrusters can be replaced with equipment such as another generator. I tried knocking out one of the upward-facing thrusters, but the lack of symmetry bugged me ;)

Has a medic station, but does not have medical scanners.

There is a small hangar area for a little HV, but the bottom of the ship can be used to dock an SV.

I can spawn this one, I'm guessing you used the new forcefield blocks in the other one.
I could not get the generators past 79% in flight, and I did not rost anywhere in the cabin.
    So it meets the challange.

    Not part of the challenge...
All the thrusters are exposed, making the ship believable from a role-playing standpoint.
There is no O2 in the hanger, was this intentional? A cheap way to get O2 into the hanger would be to replace the door with a glass one.
I accidentally fell off the bridge multiple times because of this hole.

    20171214084710_1.jpg

You have to use a jetpack to reach the bridge and grow pots, the bridge can be resolved by rotating the door and adding one more elevator block. As for accessing the grow pots...

    20171214084617_1.jpg

The max I could get the generators to is 79% and I did not roast anywhere in the cabin.
However, while a nice touch, the glass cage on the bottom qualifies as hull blocks touching the ground, and I did damage them when landing.

    20171214090457_1.jpg

    Not part of the challenge...
The ramp control levers are a nice touch, but the external lever looks like it is hanging in space.
Excellent texture work on this, and how you exposed the warp core is an great visual effect.
No buried thrusters, and you did include a constructor.

The entire ship has O2, I could not cook myself anywhere inside the ship, and the max I could get the generators to was 81%.
    The ship meets the challenge.

    Not part of the challenge...
The over/under bridge and living quarters are a nice touch, but, from a role-playing standpoint, I would reverse them.
That way you can look out over the stars while "sleeping", and you can see the ground while landing.

All thrusters are exposed and devices are accessible.
I almost missed the switch on the roof of the pilots cabin for the engine controls.

Thank you for the complement on the base. It takes an obnoxious amount of rock dust to build, but it gives me plenty of space to park ships. There is also a smaller version of it in my workshop.
